  1. start by buying yourself a simple ph test kit, over a few days preferably sunny test the ph at least 3 times a day at the same time (first light, midday and nightfall) for a few days and see if there are major fluctuations in ph which directly relates to dissolved oxygen/carbon dioxide levels. the presence of large numbers of frogs is usually a good indicator of water quality. don't clean it the vegetation provides oxygen to the water and removes excessive nutrients. keep the bass numbers low and make sure they have ample food supply
  2. that's an Eastern freshwater cod (Maccullochella ikei)
  3. The theory as I understand is the effect of barometric pressure on the fishes swim bladder, in Australian freshwater lakes there is definitely a connection between a falling barometer and lockjaw a low but stable barometer is okay and a high barometer being preferable
  4. Had a 6 foot eastern brown snake (2nd deadliest snake worldwide) try and join me in my boat a few years back, a paddle to his head changed his mind but had he got in I was getting out We also have a non venomous tree snake that has a habit of randomly dropping out of trees to the ground which can lead to a hell of a fright
  5. stocked impoundments are notoriously difficult over here I've had many 12 hour + sessions with nothing to show for it
  6. haven't had a go at barra yet but its on the cards for the not to distant future they are supposed to be one hell of an opponent
  7. for my general fishing (Bass etc..) I use a 7ft shimano catana 2-4kg rod, cazna 2500 reel loaded with 8lb braid and 8-10lb fluorocarbon leader the cod was on a 4-6 kg baitcast outfit with some 10lb braid and 15lb flurocarbon
  8. thought I'd post up some pics of some of my favorite fish species Eastern freshwater cod (very closely related to the more famous murray cod) Australian bass Bream
