costs of owning a boat
IMHO boating/fishing is a hobby. It gets me outdoors, I get to compete in some tournaments, it's why I work. I have owned a boat, yes there are expenses, I don't know of very many hobbies that don't cost some money. I am in the process of buying a boat again, but I will find the right one and pay cash. Even if it's a older model, I really think I can invest in a older boat, do the repairs, maybe some upgrades, but won't have to worry about a $20-30 thousand dollar debt.

Who would you fish with for a day?
First choice would be my grandson Logan. He is just getting into fishing and its great to see his excitement. We bought him a bait casting reel for his birthday and I gave him one of my very favorite crank bait lures. His very first cast with his new rod and reel and the lure I gave him, he caught a bass. Was maybe a 1 pounder but was he so proud.

How big is your tackle bag?
My bag holds 7 of the 3600 plastic trays. Depending on where I am going and which lake, I will adjust those seven boxes. Usually always have one cranking (mid to deep this time of year) have one with stick worms, one with action worms, one with spinner baits and one with jigs. The other two I will rotate out, ether creature bait, top waters, frogs, etc. I too have a box for hooks and one for weights. they are smaller boxes and go in the side pockets. I did see a video, and something I have been meaning to try. Is set up a "day" box. The bait you really want to try based on the lake, weather etc. and it is suppose to help keep you focused on catching fish with those lures/bait and not jump around.

Back seat etiquette.
Another back seater here to chime in. I always ask what the deck person is throwing. If he is throwing spinners or crank, I usually throw plastics, but I always let him have the lead and pick the best spots. Ironically I catch more fish at least 40 percent of the time. i think he agitates them so they end up hitting my lures.

I just cant catch bass
This has been a very informative thread. ive been out of fishing for quite a few years and so all this info is great. As for the person that asked about how to do different rigs and set ups, I can say that YouTube has been great for providing just such info. IMHO, Glenn provides some of the most concise info in a down to earth manner. Thanks to all who have been willing to share their knowledge.

Tell Me About Your First Tournament!
My buddy and I fished a open tournament on our home town lake. We went out Wednesday before the tournament and prefished. Found some nice bass back up in a creek near an old bridge. Then we went out to some deep water points and found some more nice ones. Come tournament day we are set. We hit the creek to get our five limit, but it had rained the night before and the whole creek was muddy. Nothing there. We hit the mouth of another creek and caught one two pounder. By the time we got out to the deep water points the wind had picked up and we were fighting three to four foot white caps. Needless to say we got soaking wet, no more fish and my first tournament was in the books.

First Bass Boat Questions
I too am looking for a bass boat. Won't be my first, but will probably be my last. There is a good forum called ***, lots of really good info over there. Evan has groups broken down by model. The major thing I have learned is how was it taken care of, maintenance, parts replaced etc. Or has it been sitting up in the back of somebody's yard for the last five years. Just keep reading and learning, don't be afraid to ask questions.
