  1. Strike king shim e stick "Sweet tater pie." It's not spot on, but close enough. I have caught more fish on that color than any other soft plastic.
  2. Favorite type of lure and favorite body of water to fish.
  3. Yeah, one good stab is usually in order. Recently I was fishing with a friend and I wash crushing them and he was getting skunked. We were both using frogs and after catching a fish a looked at my frog and said "d**n, they are destroying my frog. The paint is peeling off!" He just looked at me and said, "Yeah, I don't have that problem." If roles were reversed I'd expect a jab or two coming my way.
  4. Well I guess the two options are ask the owner or property management for permission to fish there, or just fish it until in becomes a problem. Honestly though, judging by that picture, I would just fish it.
  5. This is what I figured too. Sometimes even then it's a struggle. "There's always alcohol."
  6. We have all had bad days on the water, but it's worse when the guy next to you is having a good day. What do you guys do to raise your friends spirits when they are getting skunked and you are slaying it?
  7. Saw a bird go head first from about 30 feet up into the river and come up with a fish. Caught a 6lb channel cat on a wacky rig shim e stick.
  8. Last year I was throwing t-rig Yum dinger and felt a fish toying with the bait. When he finally felt on, I set the hook. The thing comes it like a sack of potatoes which has me scratching my head. When it gets to the top I realized why, he was hooked through the eye and into his head. The fish at some point must have picked up the bait and spit it out. The thing was stone dead. Simple solution for things like that, deep gut hook or otherwise, eat them. It's not the tastiest fish but I feel better getting a fillet out of a fish I killed accidentally.
  9. My father had me fishing from the time I could hold a pole. We never used live bait. He didn't think it sporting and that kind of stuck with me to this day (unless I'm looking to eat some catfish). I still have the first tackle box and lure he bought me. It was a double-sided Plano and a Rapala original floater. When I got older I would fish everyday after school. Sometimes I could coax my friends to go, but to them it was something you did once in a while. Flash forward 20 years and its still the same.
  10. Use lures with treble hooks . In my experience smallies are much better than largemouth at dislodging those hooks. Make sure when you're reeling him in you keep the pressure on. No slack in that line, especially when you sense he's going to jump.
  11. Amazingly, I have never (in my 31 years) fished Lake George. I'm heading to Lake Durant and Indian Lake this weekend. Hoping this big warmup will help out.
  12. It's been a tough transition for sure. Even with the water staying relatively cold, most of the spawning around me is done, which seems odd.
  13. Hello. Been using the site for a few years and finally decided to join. I'm a top water addict. Frogs, buzz baits, and spooks are my go to. I mostly fish from my kayak (cheapo Pelican). Mostly target small and large mouth with the occasional pike or catfish outing. I don't care for ice fishing so winter is hunting time. Anyway, glad to be here.
  14. Fish that live in current have a different attitude to them, especially small mouth. The bass in the lakes I fish usually want a slower retrieve than the ones in the rivers. For example on a river I will usually start with a buzzbait or square bill. On a lake, it's usually a spook, jerkbait, or frog. I don't use live bait, so I can't help you there. That all being said it really depends. What species are you targeting? Where in the country are you fishing? Large mouth bass fishing in Georgia can be a lot different than in New Hampshire.
