Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
They are Massyak85 and apologize for the lack of responding. Kinda thought everyone over looked me other than some likes of my posting. I'm in SC and have already tried one. Got two huge bites "big fish" but missed them as I've been trying to figure them out. They are hugely fat "for me" and trying to get the hook through the bait hasn't been easy. I've be using 1o/o hook weighted and I think it's a tich to small for the bait but could be wrong. The action is incredible and I just got into Keitechs and hope to catch some huge un's.

Survival gear needed if boat brakes down and your in a swamp or the middle of no where?
My boat is new to me but used and has been great so far. However we were in the swamp today and I couldn't help but think what if it wouldn't crank and trolling motor battery went dead. What would I need to survive for a couple of days until found? Lighter, flash lights, batteries, something warm, water, ect.... I am making a list and would appreciate any ideas

braid v floro for pitching
I'm new to using both, my braid vibrates when reeling on all of my rods and the floro doesn't. Wonder if it affects the baits and fishing

Will lowering the lack until March 1st affect the spawn
I have a friend of mine who is the president of the HOA of Forest Lake. He said the lake would be down until March 1st after I reminded him that the spawn will be coming soon. I live in Columbia SC and would guess this small lake is about 200 acres. He asked me to find out if waiting till March 1st to raise the lake would hurt the spawn. The first picture shows you the lake and I was standing about where the spot is in this picture of the second photo. Also, I drew in darker blue on the first picture where the water was left in the lake. This is the second picture showing how little water is in the lake. Every fish in the lake would be in the water you see. How will this affect the spawn? Thanks for help!!!

Expanding my arsenal
I like em. "Spinning" Caught a 10 on one, and when another snapped, Abu sent me a new one. Both are 6'6" med heavy spinning rods and I give them a thumbs up because of the 10lber, price, feel and warranty. Yes

Fish are smart? Or just not there?
Yes, Bass fileted and fried are delicious! I'm with you FishDewd on the baked and broiled though. 2 1/2 lbers to 1lbers are the best to eat in my opinion. I always throw anything bigger back, but rarely keep any. LOL!!!!! Yeah, so I was thinking the grass carp and haven't ever heard of a silver carp. Pretty much, I don't eat much fish, but I do like to and when I do, if it's fresh water it's fried. Saltwater fish are either baked, grilled, pan seared, and rarely fried. I've only snagged carp on lures "by accident" and only caught them on oatmeal balls.

Rod for Alabama Rig
It's fun and I'm going to get more into throwing it to this year! Looking for the same recommendations as you. I throw lighter one's with lighter heads on an under powered and rated rod and looking to upgrade everything.... I haven't a rod even rated for 2 oz's, but I would defiantly go heavier to at least a rod that could throw a 4 oz bait. Just because I'm getting into wanting to throw bigger and heavier baits for bigger fish.

Anybody wants to go Bass fishing in SC?
Got two different boats. A 14' jon boat with trolling motor for ponds and a 1548 War Eagle for larger water areas. I'll supply the ride, you show me some hot spots!

Please tell me a good recipe for Carp because I love eating a fried bass, but don't know anyone around here that would even eat a carp. So for me, it sounds crazy I agree Tom!

Still not peeing
I turn the key, motor begins to crank, and as fast as I can look back the motor is peeing and smoking on a choked cranked.

Bass pro brand rods thoughts and comparison
Private labeling! Just helps companies make higher profit margins! If Bass Pro was the cheapest on a particular product, they wouldn't waste the money to hide "change the name" of the product. Instead they would spend the money in advertising saying hey, we are the best price period. Compare our price to everyone else's on the product for sale. Shell game

My shortest fishing trip ever today (not in a good way!)
Yeah, I had no idea when I said better tie em tight. Down here, I loose very little. Last two trips, "Monday and today" I only lost a Keitech Easy Shiner on an open hook jig head. Worth less than $2.00 and I had just gotten tired of retrieving snagged baits "slowing my partner down" in the swamp. Feel for you brother and maybe I should have said switch to steel line!

Wanted: pics of swimbait rods please
Good questions: I guess the rod is for fishing bait on the bottom, and I don't have any experience in that either. I was just walking through sportsman's warehouse checking out rods that could handle bigger baits than mine. Yes, I'm looking for a rod that I can throw bigger baits like The Little Creeper All American 8" Trash Fish which weighs 2.25 ozs. Or the savage gear 3d rat 11-3/4“ weighing 3-3/4 oz. But I don't want get fatigued casting such big gear.

I think I messed up. Transducer placement
Appreciate it iabass8! I clearly have no idea what I'm doing with electronics and hit the restore defaults 3 times today just trying to figure things out while having the manual in hand. So many different setting and options. If you have time, you mentioned turning the fish alert off. Should I be clear or max mode? or go just off the default settings?

I think I messed up. Transducer placement
WHAT! and your probably right iabass8 but it was like hunting over one of those timed deer feeders. Every time you hear a feeder go off "like my fish alarm" it get's excited because you never know what is going to happen. Is the "Humminbird® Helix™ 10 SI Sonar/GPS Combo" a good unit? I think it was the one of the first side imaging units and I bought it for $850 brand new

Wanted: pics of swimbait rods please
Hey Everyone, I'm almost in the market for a bigger rod to handle stuff from 1oz to maybe 6 oz lures. I stopped by sportsman's warehouse today and the few inexpensive one's I saw were huge! Pic attached also the link is here: http://www.sportsmanswarehouse.com/sportsmans/Denali-Bottom-Feeder-Casting-Rod/productDetail/Casting-Rods/prod99999039982/cat101028 Is there any less than a hundo that would handle the lure weight but is lighter and smaller than the beast above? Or would I expect a rod similar to above for throwing heavy stuff for less than $100?

I hate loosing stuff, but I'm with you Choporoz. I fish to catch fish, and expect to loose baits! And have just about the same fun buying and trying new baits.

Sad day for me
Hey Bud! Sounds like a celebration to me!!! You get to buy a new rod and wow have they changed!!!! I still have those special rods from my growing up, but never fish em.

I think I messed up. Transducer placement
Update Everyone: Monday I fished in a swamp here in SC. Extremely shallow in a lot of areas and must have hit at least 15 stumps. But at low speeds of 2.5 mph with the motor trimmed way up. The transducer placement seems to be fine, just not much on the sonar at low depths. Today, I took it to a small lake and it was shallow. Again, the transducer seemed fine accept at this point "2nd trip out" I'm not even liking my electronics at all. Only when I got to 6' or more did I start loving it because the fish alarm was blaring! First time electronics user and shallow water fisherman with the intent to get to the deeper less pressured bass. Lol, I've been thinking I may be sell it. Gona give it another try. Today was fun

12ft aluminum V bottom boat, need tips for controlling it
My first thought was I wouldn't "I don't know that I would remove the center seat without adding some kind of bracing or maybe a floor to replace the structural support that seat gives"

I think I messed up. Transducer placement
Thanks guys for all responses and I'm still deciphering them. I did try it out today, but we were down in the swap, hitting stumps, and I didn't ever get any faster than 2.5 mph. It seemed fine at that speed except the depth was off a about 1'6". More reading and investigating! Thank you all!
