  1. All seaguar red label 20# jig and worm 15# bladed jigs, spinnerbaits finesse jigs 12# jerkbaits and crankbaits On sale at cabelas for half price right now
  2. I may not consider finesse being as light as some of you guys do. However, all my daiwas will sling light baits better than any reels I've owned. Have a new tatula 100 and several ct's and the 100 is favorable in every way so far. Super nice reel for the 109 they can be had for
  3. I'd go with daiwa fuego ct's or curado k's. Either can be had on the big auction site for less than you're wanting to spend. Both great reels thatif cared for will last you for years. As for rods I'm a big fan of cabelas brand rods. The zx and xml are both great and lifetime warranty. That makes it convenient of you live near one. As already stated there are tons of good options tho. As anglers we are spoiled these days with all the great gear that's affordable. You're not the only one that's "crazy" I have all zx rods and curado k reels. All my rod socks are red to match my triton lol.
  4. Jigs, jigs, and more jigs lol. With an occasional senko in the mix. I fish it all but these are the 2 baits that are always tied on in virtually any fishing situation or location I find myself in! Good luck with your endeavors back into the sport!
  5. I see that. Hmmm. Take a look at the zx rods then. I prefer them anyway and they're still showing several models of those
  6. I've got several of the newer xml rods and a bunch of the tournament zx rods. All are extremely well built and I highly recommend to anyone. Lifetime warranty, Winn grips, super nice build quality. I wouldn't hesitate a bit to try one. The xml are on sale right now I believe. Normally 129 on sale for 90
  7. I'm of the belief there are several nice rods for that price. I choose cabelas tournament zx and xml rods exclusively. Catch em on sale and they're less than 100. Lifetime no questions asked warranty. Winn grips and several models to choose from. Hard to beat all that in my neck of the woods. My buddies and I own probably 25 combined and I've broken one last year. Totally my fault. Rode 15 minutes to cabelas and came home with a new one. Good luck. Xml' s are onsale right now...normal 129 for 90.
  8. That line u were using is monofilament. Try u some braid and I bet u have better results
  9. I don't think you'll find many salesman that are gonna be able to do much more than blow smoke or try to sell you on their favorite. They all make great units. I'm running Garmin because...feature for feature they are cheaper, much easier to navigate, and their mounting cradle makes it soooo much easier to put on and take off. My buddy runs lowrance, if we start at the same time I'm backing my boat in while he's still connecting wires on his. If i weren't running Garmin I'd be running birds again
  10. Looks great! I made the tray for my dad's boat. One benefit of working in a fab shop! Cool foot looks great as well! Nice work
  11. The best Garmin you can afford! I've been very pleased with my 7 and 9 inch echo map units! I went from 7 inch helix units to these. I loved the birds but the Garmin are much more user friendly and the mounting system is the best I've seen. No connecting wires etc. Nothing wrong with the helix tho if you're set on those. I wouldn't buy one without side imaging and gps if it were me. Good luck!
  12. As stated a 3 bank would be ideal. If u can't return the 2 bank of just buy another 1 bank charger for the cranking. I'm currently running a 3 bank for my trolling and a 2 bank for my cranking and extra battery.
  13. Been using seaguar red label for several years! For the money it's hard to beat! 20 lb for my swimbaits
  14. I've built several custom rods. I basically got away from it simply because if I break one I have to build another. Having said that there are a lot of nice options. I personally prefer a lil softer rod than most. I've been using a carbonlite 7ft med hvy and for the money it's hard to beat. As far as reels, any lews above the speed spool are great. I prefer the tournament pro g reels! Good luck
  15. I'm a lews guy so the bb would be my choice. I use a super duty for my swimbait and a rig duties! Good luck
  16. Ive got one of the bps rod caddy bags and I feel like it would work well for your situation!
  17. As stated, i always run a leader on my braid with the exception of topwater fishing. If u use quality fluorocarbon abrasion resistance shouldn't be an issue. Also as stated let's u save ur main braid line. Good luck
  18. This is why I use braid on all my spinning gear. I use a fluorocarbon or mono leader. Braid just behaves so much better especially on small spinning reel spools. Theres a reason all the pros use braid on their spinning gear.
  19. If it were me I'd roll with some 14 lb trilene xl
  20. Been using them for years. Clean em with some alcohol on a wash cloth every year or two and they'll be fine!
  21. In the 100 dollar range I believe the cabelas tournament zx rods and bass pro carbonlites can't be beat! Cabelas is all I own, no questions asked lifetime warranty. If i break one I ride 20 minutes to cabelas and get a new one! Good luck
  22. I won't use cork much any more, much prefer Winn grips. Having said that if i were to go that route the dobyns champion xp would be my choice! Amazing blanks built with great quality!
  23. I've been using some original tournament pros for 5 years and a few tournament pro g's for a cple. My dad uses all lews as well and we haven't had any issues to date. I do break em down and clean/lube every year or so. Had one that came with a funky side plate and they sent me a new one no questions asked. Awesome reels with excellent customer service is all I need in reels. I'd buy with confidence! Daiwa and shimano make fine reels but I prefer my lews! Good luck
  24. I agree that no one will ever know for sure. I go about it with the mind set that...if....they are I will fish the line I feel gives me the best chance of catching them. I'll fish straight braid on frogs and buzzbaits but everything else is fluoro. To each their own tho as with everything else fishing related, it's all about confidence!
  25. 1.5 and 2.5 in sexy shad and black back chartreuse are all we use anymore. Hard to beat strike kings for the money!
