Just got two Loomis IMX pros today, what to do?
I think that’s a smart move. Two excellent rods and you’ll be very pleased with them. I don’t fish an 853 like I mention but have handled them lots. I do fish an 852c so have a basic idea of what the 853 should feel good for. A texas rig senko would be great on it, weightless or 1/4oz and less. I fish a 7’ medium heavy fast kistler rod and love the senko on it. Was just killing small mouth on that rod with a weightless t-rig senko last year in 20-50ft of water! I want the 893 this season for that exact reason. Little long to help control the fish and used in more open deep water situations and keep the 7’ kistler for around the docks and up too 15-20’ of water. Also 3/16-1/4 swimjig head or under spin with a paddletail would probably be great! Heavier tubes, larger shaky heads. I’d say it’s a fairly universal rod.

Where does a Light or medium-light come in?
Oh I hear you there! My seirra 734 is a heavy that is absolutely just a medium heavy, and my kistler medium heavy is at best a light medium heavy. I’ve handled a few st. Croix medium-lights (610mlxf) in particular and loved the feel but ended up purchasing the glx 822s dsr. But while looking to fill the medium spinning rod (852) I stumbled across the expride medium and the expride light+ (definately a medium light rod) but it was just so light and well balanced I loved both of them. But being set on the 852 I don’t need the medium so trying to figure out if the light+ will finish the spinning rods off nicely for me or just kind of be a waste with the 852 and 822

Where does a Light or medium-light come in?
Haha not quite. 852 comes first and then an 893 I believe. They just felt so nice and the 7’ medium would be too close to the 852 so I was trying to see if the light+ would actually fill a niche or am I just wasting my time. Like I said it would be the nrx 852 and the glx 822 dsr. So I’m not sure if it will be just as waste of time

Where does a Light or medium-light come in?
So basically what I’m seeing here the 7’1 nrx 852 medium rated for 1/8-3/8oz will do everything I need so to get the expride 7’ light+ (medium-light) 3/32-7/16oz wouldn’t be too useful but fun? I just got the glx 822s dsr and only need like 2 spinning rods so was going for the 852. But can’t seem to get the 7’ medium and the 7’ lite expride out of my mind. They just felt so nice and trying to find where they fit in.

Just got two Loomis IMX pros today, what to do?
I have 2 imx pro’s, 3 new glx’s, 2 avid x’s and 1 kistler helium, higher end rod from company we can’t name, dobyns Sierra, e6x, daiwa zillion and tatula lt rod and in the market for 2 nrx’s now. I love my imx pro’s! Sure they aren’t my glx, or an nrx but for the money I believe they are a great rod. The sensitivity is excellent, balance is great. The 853 would make a nice senko rod, heavier tube rod, light t-rigs, light jigs. I’d even throw smaller chatterbaits and paddletail on it. The 854 would make a nice jig rod (prefer the 7’5” or 894 series) but close to cover or docks it would be sweet. Great for skipping t-rigs like beavers, or jigs under cover and docks. Heavier paddle tails would be great on it. I see it that you stole them, so to sell it to get 1 helium, or 1 LBT I think you’d be loosing. To trade In for 1 nrx would be nice but your still loosing 2 nice rods for 1 great rod and it’s hard to get 1 rod to properly cover everything you need. Not a bad idea to keep them. I could upgrade my imx pro’s but for the money I love them! They feel better balanced then lbt’s, more sensitive then my avid x, better in the hand then the zillion. I personally really like the imx pro rods. Just my two sense.

Where does a Light or medium-light come in?
I can see where a ned would be nice on a medium light but the rest I fish with a medium. Is it just more fun fighting the fish on the medium light or something? It’s actually a light+ which is rated like a medium-light. 3/32-7/16oz Baits. It’s actually a wicked feeling rod, but most mediums are in the 1/8-1/2oz range and can’t see having to own both, other then the fact I want both. Just trying to see where a medium light or the light+ might fit better then a medium

Where does a Light or medium-light come in?
Curious where a light or medium light spinning rod is more commonly used then a medium spinning rod. Trying to narrow down which higher end rod to pick for a universal spinning rod and almost set on the nrx 852s. But while in a store I was handling the Shimano Expride 7’ light right and I can’t stop thinking about it lol. Realistically trhing to figure out an excuse to why I need both lol. Where would a rod like that play better then a medium?

Rod / Reel / Line combos
I know you said you don’t like spinning reels but everyone should have it for the light stuff. Just 1 and make it as universal as you can. To me that would be 6’6”-7” range in a medium fast. I used something in that area for 10 years for everything before I really got into fishing. Still have them for my more finesse applications. For me it’s a avid x 7’ medium fast (looking for a new one but great rod!!) then a 6’8-7’1 medium fast casting rod will cover some of the heavier finesse baits and jerks. Shaky head, senko’s, finesse jigs, flukes and so forth. For me that is a glx 852c (7’1” medium extra fast) the first two could cover 75% of your fishing needs. Sure it might not be the best but before I had a dedicated cranking stick I throw my cranks on the spinner. third I would look at a 7’-7’3” medium heavy fast rod. Personally I’d recommend a dobyns 734c. It’s rated as a heavy but fishes like a medium heavy. That has to be one of the most universal rods on the market. With this rod, I’d throw your buzzbaits, senko’s around cover, light to midweight t-rigs, frogs in open water, jigs, chatterbaits and spinners. Once again it’s not the best for some of the techniques but it would be the closest thing I can think of to cover that many applications. last would be a 7’-7’6” heavy fast rod. This rod would be your jigs, frogs, anything around cover or slop. Something stout with a nice tip in order to launch some of those lighter frogs, but stout enough to pull a 5lbs bass out covered in 3-4lbs of grass. Personally it would be a 7’4-7’6” rod. Spinning reel id look into shimano nasci or Daiwa feugo. If you stepping up then a stradic from shimano, and a tatula or ballistic from daiwa. for casting reels. Once again I’d highly recommend the shimano and daiwa. I prefer shimano but that’s is just personal preference. I own and fish both. Look into the curado K, curado 70 for the medium casting rod and chronarch mgl from shimano, and feugo again or tatula series (tatula Sv tws) would be where I’d go in the daiwa line up.

Nrx 872s?
Thank you. Going to have to get my hands on them once more before I make my decision. I really want the 872s just try the extra length but the 852s just felt better to me.

St.croix mojo bass, or g Loomis e6x?
Out of curiosity how is the legend tourny’s compared to the e6x. Keep wanting to try a legend tourney or legend elite maybe. Just trying to figure which elite will fit my needs

St.croix mojo bass, or g Loomis e6x?
I really need to fish a different mojo and e6x. Grant it I paid next to nothing for my 2 piece 6’6” walleye series medium fast e6x and my buddy has a 7’ medium fast mojo. My e6x is light, balanced incredibly with stradic ci4+, I find the sensitivity better then my avid x which in turn should mean my buddy’s mojo and surprise with the power. Everything I’ve read the e6x is below the mojo/avid series but in my experience is the e6x was an excellent purchase. I now own 3 glx’s, shopping for 2 nrx’s and on is to replace my avid x. But the e6x will be staying. Love that little walleye rod. My buddies mojo feels... noodily. It’s crazy soft tip, I thought it was going be more like my 7’ medium avid x but they are two totally different rods!

Spinning rod for smallmouth
I am not speaking from experience on the water but I was just out shopping for a new spinning set up yesterday and I’m looking for 1 maybe 2. Looking for something Versatile, and the two I went in for was the 852s and 872s. The extra length on the 872 makes it feel like it would be a killer rod for more open water smallies. The 852 balance and feel is perfect in my opinion. If you are interested in trying something new other then a second 852, then another rod there that felt unbelievable for Ned’s and similar techinques was a 7’ expride A light. What a beautifully balanced, light weight, excellent feeling rod! I’d definately consider getting your hands on one to feel for yourself. For a few hundred less it feels d**n near on par with my new glx’s! I’m pretty sure I’ll be getting the nrx 852 or 872, but trying to find a reason to get the expride 7’ medium or light as well

Higher end spinning reel advice?
Thanks everyone, for now I think I’ll stick with the stradic ci4+. I don’t see the exsence ci4+ worth it, and can’t afford the exsence. The sustain seems too mixed reviews most swaying saying it’s not worth the addition cost either. Now to narrow down a rod!

Please help me choose my first NRX! :)
It might not be an nrx but I picked up a couple glx’s last season. First being the 894c and second being the 852c. That 852 is a sweet little rod. I’ve thrown hard jerks, soft jerks, 3/16-1/4oz jig plus trailer, weightless senko’s and t-rigs, 1/8oz t-rigs and shaky heads. I love that rod. I was actually in the market for the 853 when I stumbled across this at a great price. Very happy with it. Super soft but loads of power. Doesn’t make a great jerk rod but not terrible either. The 893c is the most popular for sure and once you try a longer rod for your purpose you won’t regret it. I wanted the 854 instead of the 894 but couldn’t pass the deal. I’m hooked on that rod now! I love the extra length for casting, controlling the fish, power in my hook set, and I even learned how to skip on that rod! I’m now wanting the nrx 893c for texas rigger senko’s, and deeper water smaller bait applications.

Nrx 872s?
Anyone else have an opinion? I went and got hands on with the nrx 872 and 852 today and that 852s is a wicked feeling stick! I threw the stradic on it and the 852 felt nicer in the hand to me. Also played with the expride finally as I’ve never got to handle one and wow is that a great feeling rod for the money! It feels very close too the glx in comparison. I’d say the glx has a slight edge but not 150 dollar edge
-
Higher end spinning reel advice?
Yah obviously! I want a nice set up it after tax the exsence would be 900 dollars in Canada, and the Stella would be 1200 dollars. That’s above my level as I don’t use spinning gear much anymore. The stradic ci4+ is already 350 dollars out the door so to step up when I don’t use much spinning gear it would have to be a great sale or used. But if the exsence ci4 is basically a glorified stradic ci4 then for an extra 175 I can’t see it worth it!
-
Higher end spinning reel advice?
Thank you! It looks like I’ll probably just get another stradic ci4+. I currently have one, fish it and love it. My dad has the new stradic fk and that’s also an awesome feeling reel! Would be willing to step up but doesn’t seem like the sustain is worth the addition cost and the exsence is more then double which is too steep right now.
-
Higher end spinning reel advice?
Really! Wow that would of been a huge waste of money then! I wish they had different model numbers. The box the exsence comes in says exsence ci4+ C3000mhg which I believe is the same model number as the regular exsence minus the ci4+ beside the name. I’m not willing to pay 150-200 more for basically the same reel. And unfortunately can’t justify 450 more for a new exsence.

Nrx 872s?
I don’t target smallies all the much as majorities of the place local is large mouth, but a few times a year we chase that small mouth bite as it’s tough to beat! Do you prefer the 7’6 or the 7’3 for a more versatile rod if you could only choose one to do the job of both? Which do you prefer between the two?
-
Higher end spinning reel advice?
Wouldn’t the exsence ci4 be an upgrade over the regular exsence? I’ll see if I can go get my hands on the exsence as it seems like it’s worth the step up over the stradic ci4+. If it sells before hand then I’ll be going with the stradic as the exsence is double the price. If the sustain isn’t worth the price upgrade then I won’t even bother playing with them

Higher end spinning reel advice?
It’s the exsence ci4+

Nrx 872s?
Ive been going back and forth on the next spinning set up. I’m looking at adding a more versitile higher end 1 peice rod. I was debating on a 7’ medium legend elite and it’s still on my mind but the 7’3 nrx 872s seems like it might fill that niche. Little longer, still light. Main thing I’ll throw is finesse tubes, senko’s and the odd ned rig.

Higher end spinning reel advice?
I’m pretty happy with shimano products and thinking I’m going stay that route but will definately take a look at one next time I’m in the store. Who knows right. im not looking for Stella quality like I said that’s a 1000+ dollar reel in Canada. I saw the price of the exsence is 799.99 so at 450 for a used one with papers, reciept showing it’s only 2 months old it’s a wicked price! But that’s still 150-200 more then a ci4+ and the sustain. That’s why I’m curious if it’s really worth jt
-
Higher end spinning reel advice?
That’s a US site with US pricing. To purchasing there it would be converted to Canadian at 957.75 plus shipping pushing it at the 1000 dollar reel. And sticker price in Canada is 999.99

Higher end spinning reel advice?
I love my ci4+ and would be happy with another but would be interested in trying something different. I wasn’t sure if the sustain was worth the money over it and the exsence is a huge step above and wasn’t 100% sure on if I’m willing to spend that kind of money but a lightly used one maybe. What is it about the sustain that makes it not worth the money. I’ve considered it a lot but the cheapest I can find in Canada used is closer to the 650-675 dollar range as it’s a 1000 dollar reel here. I found one that is broken for 400 to put it in perspective for you. The exsence i believe is a 650-750 dollar reel but don’t know any store that carries them.
