  1. Well I have a few months so I’m trying not to let price limit me. I started purchasing a few higher end rods later in the season (2 or 3 imx pro’s, 2 glx’s) and there just more fun to fish lol. The ltb I found so tip heavy on certain models. I’ve always wanted to try one but every time I was in the market for a new rod they just turned me off a little. I’m leaning more towards a legend elite or maybe the x, or another imx, glx I’ll check them out, I’ve heard great things about the ags tatula Rods. I had a zillion rod up until mid last season that I liked a lot just didn’t have room in the arsenal for it
  2. I’m looking at adding a mid-high end finesse/dropshot spinning rod for next season but wanted to get all the information early. Most likely will throw a ci4+ on it as I love the one I currently have but confused on the rod. I don’t do a ton of finesse fishing but want to get more into it. I have a glx 852c that I’m using for wacky rig senko’s, shakey head, finesse jigs, but looking for a good spinning rod for dropshot, Ned rig maybe small flukes? Any suggestions?
  3. Thank you everyone I’m gping looking at the mojo and 1 another brand as they feel really good for the money!!!
  4. So my dad likes to bring his 2 piece casting rod on our annual fishing trip and annual moose hunting trip to our hunting camp. With the amount of gear we bring the rods need to be 2 piece. Well he snapped it this year accidentally and now I was thinking of replacing it for his birthday. I don’t own any 2 piece casting rods so don’t even know what to look for. The rod needs to be upper 6’-lower 7’ range. Medium-heavy, to a lighter heavy, will be used for pike fishing northern Ontario. Any suggestions?
  5. That’s very unfortunate! I’ve been running the 7 gear ration shimano chronarch mgl and absolutely love it! I’m debating on trying the Batam mgl this season on it just due to it being a stronger reel. Not that i feel like the chronarch can’t handle it as I caught some monsters this season with it, just an excuse to try the bantam. The curado k also felt awesome and if money had been tighter at the time of the purchase this is the other reel I would of went with
  6. He was saying the one that stood out the absolute most was the 893c. The 852c was one, and there was 1 more and can’t recall. He said he preferred the 894 in the glx way over the nrx. And also mentioned the conquest was a really nice rod but not even remotely worth the money over the nrx or glx. If it was closer in price maybe but not almost 1 and 3/4 the price of the nrx or glx’s the nrx 893 will be my next loomis I think, that or a glx mbr taper
  7. I’ve never fished the nrx but when purchasing my glx’s, I bumped into a gentleman who was sponsored by loomis and was asking him the same question. He said for the money the glx is so close to the nrx and with so many models he didn’t find it worth spending the extra money. He and his partner sold off most of the nrx’s And replaced them with the glx. There was a few models he said that the glx couldn’t even touch the nrx and there’s no way around it but to spend the extra money on the nrx.
  8. Congrats! I hope you enjoy it and look forward to hearing your thoughts. I love mine!! Let us know what reel your looking at as I’m really debating getting a bantam for my frogging rod!
  9. NRX is suppose to be the way to go and forsure at another 70 or so dollars it shouldn’t matter. I have 2 glx’s and love them!! Best rods I’ve ever used. The reason I went glx vs nrx was mainly cause I was with 2 guys sponsored by g.loomis and they got wicked deals on rods and they said even at there price they could only see the benefit of the nrx in few models. They prefer the glx’s power and balance, with superb sensitivity it’s tough to beat (not that there More sensitive, just that the nrx wasn’t a heck more sensitive then the glx) They did say there was 2-3 models in the nrx that for some reason the glx didn’t even come close too and recommened that. Now theres the curiosity factor that takes into play. I own the glx 894c and the 852c but now I want to try an nrx for myself. So next will be nrx to judge for myself. The one model they highly recommened in the nrx was the 893c so that’s what I’ll try.
  10. I’m the same as most others here. I’d recommened spending the money on finesse and/or bottom contact like a jig and worm rod, dropshot rod, shakey head something like that. My least expensive rod is for my chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, and small swimbaits. I actually spend a good amount on my crankbait rod and frog rod and it’s mad a world of difference for me but it’s not something I see you need to spend the big dollars on
  11. I don’t throw real deep diving cranks. Squarebills are my favorite for sure followed by lipless and mid depth. For that I like a 6 gear ratio. So far it’s been working excellent for me. As far as reels go I’m currently using a reel that we can’t talk about and it’s been working good but I’m also used my chronarch mgl’s on it. I’m thinking of perminately switching to the chronarch mgl. Small in the hand, enough line capacity for me, super smooth, and looks good too lol.
  12. I prefer a heavy rod personally but the rest looks good. I use a 7.1:1 and a 7’4” heavy fast and love it. Heavy extra fast would work too
  13. It’s a tough choice. And I am very new to jig fishing and will be what I practice most next season but here is what I’ve come to find so far. to start braid made a big difference when I switched from fc. I use 30lb and 50lbs braid, with and without leaders. as far as reels go, I have extremely limited experience with abu but do currently own and fish a curado K and tatula sv. I personally much prefer my curado. Not that the tatula is bad, I just like the feel, the way it casts, feels smoother on the retrieve and feels more refined. I bought one of each as my first two casting reels and now own 4 shimano’s And still only the 1 daiwa. Wanting to try a zillion but metanium first lol. 7 or 8 gear ratio helps massively as your trying to pick up slack as your working your jig. as far as rods I’ve tried from finesse jigs to 1 oz jigs and I’ve fished them on a 7’1” medium extra fast glx, 7’ MH fast kistler helium, 7’3” dobyns 734c, 7’2” mh regular daiwa zillion, 7’5” glx 894c, to a 7’6” heavy extra fast in a brand i can’t mention. I’ve tried a couple this season. For me the longer stouter Rods made it way easier to control the fish. My hook set was way more powerful and never lost a fish on a good bite. The shorter lighter rods made it harder on hook sets but sometimes easier to detect bite on the lighter rod. I’m the end I went with as my main jig rod the glx 894c which is a heavy fast. Loads of power, great tip and super sensitive! Longer rod to better control fish and length of cast but one of the most sensitive rods I own to help detect bites. The avid series rods are excellent bang for buck. That’s a lot of rod for the price, and there blanks are generally very durable and sensitive for there value! I find st. Croix’s a little tip heavy but awesome rods.
  14. Well as far as I know, loomis doesn’t make a current model of crankbait rods in glx or nrx making the imx pro there highest quality version of a crankbait rod. So between that and the e6x you have higher quality graphite blank making it more sensitive and stronger. This rod loads up beautifully for 1/4oz to the heaviest I’ve thrown at 3/4oz. Never do I feel underpowered. It has plenty of backbone to horse out those big guys from logs and weeds. It is light weight, great balance, plenty of power yet light enough to throw those tiny squarebills! It is the main reason I own 5 loomis rods and why I’m looking for my 6th! I got my dad an e6x 845c cbr rod late this season as it was on a wicked sale. I haven’t spend a lot of time with it but so far I’ve been very impressed with it as well.
  15. I was trying a few rods and have found my favorite to be the g.loomis imx pro 845c cbr. 7’ medium heavy mod-fast. Once I fished this rod I was hooked immediately and my hook up ratio went way way up! I am in love with this rod. I’ve thrown 1/4 oz to 3/4 oz cranks and hooked my biggest small mouth to date this season and I think 4 out of my top 10 fish this season came from this rod! if I ever decide to try something new it will probably be the kistler crankbait rod.
  16. I misread the 2nd post by the op, but after what she just mentioned I guess the 734c is back in play lol. As long as you have a spinning rod to cover the lighter stuff my most versatile setups are the 734c with a daiwa tatula sv and a 7 kistler helium medium-heavy rated 1/8-3/4oz with a chronarch mgl!
  17. I personally didn’t like frogging on my 7’6” as much as I do my 7’4” which would make me lean a little more towards the 735c. That’s all personal preference though. I made it work till I bought my 7’4” frog rod
  18. I also don’t know much about lews so I’m going recommend either a daiwa tatula 100 (smaller in size as you mentioned his reel felt a touch big) or Shimano Curado 70 as it’s also smaller in size. As far as rods go, I think it’s pretty tough to beat a dobyns fury 734c
  19. There by far my favorite reel. Now every time I pick up the K I love it! Its an awesome reel for the money but there is a reason I have 3 chronarchs and 1 K. Once I tried my first chronarch I’m hooked. Like I said next will be the metanium!! the chronarch are easier to palm, smoother, lighter, more comfortable, I get better distance. I have one on the frog rod, one on the jig rod, and one on the worm rod, and my K is on my flipping stick. Will probsbly get another chronarch for the crankbait stick eventually. And move the one chronarch over to my moving bait rod and pick up the metanium for the jig rod just to try it out for myself to see if there that much better then the chronarchs. Mainly just curious how much better they are when the chronarchs are awesome!!!
  20. Hahaha it happens! I have a gun and hunting addiction. Way too many and way to much money. Finally the girl told me I had to pick a different hobby. So I set the guns aside as it wasn’t hunting season and picked up a fishing rod. And this season I got 2 spinning set ups, e6x and avid x with a nasci, and ci4 +. Then 7 casting combos, imx pro with a ***, imx pro with a chronarch mgl, 2 glx’s with chronarch mgl’s, *** paired with a curado k, kistler helium with a chronarch mgl, and a dobyns Sierra with a Daiwa’s Tatula SV. Like I said it happens lol. Coming up sooner then later either another glx or nrx and trying the metanium
  21. I’d love to try an Expride, I have a hard time even finding one to handle!! But do have a glx 852c and 894c which has led me to want the 893c and now a moving bait rod either the mbr 842c or the mbr 843c
  22. Yah I figured it would be better, but it just has such a nice bend when loaded it just feels like t would fish a fluke, or hard jerkbait well. I use it primarily for finesse worms, wacky worms, finesse jigs
  23. 1.) gloomis glx 894c 7’5” heavy fast action primary jig rod 2.) gloomis glx 852c 7’1” medium extra fast for finesse plastics, wacky worm, shakey head 3.) gloomis imx pro 884 TWFR 7’4” heavy fast action frog rod 4.) gloomis imx pro 845 CBR 7’ medium heavy moderate-fast for crankbaits 5.) kistler helium 7’ medium-heavy fast action or dobyns Sierra 734c heavy fast action for moving baits (paddletails, small swimbaits, chatterbaits, and such)
  24. It’s funny your experience I have an avid x spinning rod and my dad fishes an avid x casting rod and boy can he ever bomb a lure with that combo! Medium heavy casting rod little tip heavy but light overall weight and plenty of power. If you don’t like the micro’s I’m going have to suggest the avid as well as it’s in the price range, same quality without micro guides and full grip. personally I’m a loomis guy so I’d look at the imx pro, love the way these things fish! Don’t even mind the 2 different e6x’s I’ve fished. Have 1 dobyns too, Sierra series but very impressed with it as well!
  25. Thanks. I’ve been throwing 3/16oz jigs and small trailers and it’s a good rod. wacky rig is awesome too. But someone was telling me to use it as a jerkbait rod as well cause even though it’s extra fast it has a ton of parabolic bend so it helps keep the fish pinned
