  1. The 734 is one of dobyns most versatile rods. It balances extremely well as do most of there stuff and it works well for everything. I would be going that route
  2. Looking at potentially picking one up from a buddy at a good price. Wondering from anyone who has experience what your thoughts are on this rod, and what you find it best for? I really don’t need it, but if I did I would kind of like it for chatterbaits, paddletails, whopperploppers and double down for deep water bottom contact
  3. Haha well thank you guys! I’m going post another thread asking just about the 903c and see what everyone’s thoughts are just on the rod, and what they like it for. I totally agree the expride is more then I need but I’ve been so curious on the conquests. I always said I’d never buy one cause of the price. At almost 1000-1100 new it’s ridiculous, I mean my nrx’s costed me 750 and I thought that was wild. But for 600 it seems tough to pass
  4. Hahaha I totally agree. It’s more so I have an issue and just nice things. The expride would be bought new from a store (Canada) so running me 430. Main purpose is paddletails, chatterbaits, then double down for my whopper ploppers once in a while. The conquest goes for 900-1100 new and this ones new this year and can get it for 600 out the door so it’s the only reason I’m debating it. With being an mbr taper I figure it would make a nice moving bait rod, and double down for deeper water bottom contact
  5. So I decided to sell my dobyns 734c and to replace it with a 7’2” medium heavy expride. Now I have a buddy who wants it just waiting for him too return from vacation. I was contacted by a gentleman I purchased a few rods off of last year and he’s got a conquest 903c at an unbelievable price. what I’m looking to do with the rod is paddletails, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, larger topwater. Still a couple hundred more then the expride but half price of a new conquest?
  6. I own 1 daiwa and 8-10 shimano! I will take a shimano any day of the week over a daiwa. My tatula is one of my most finicky reels i own actually, casting distance is a lot less then any of my shimano’s. I just put 2 brakes on and send her! I feel as though I have a lemon daiwa, as I set up my dads and both his reels aren’t as finicky, and seem to get better distance. Not as good as the shimano’s but much better then my tatula
  7. Personally I would take the 200 and add whatever you usually spend on a rod or your max budget and buy a rod you’d otherwise never be able to justify, like a 7’2mh expride would make a good multipurpose rod, or a 843c mbr glx would be excellent as well. if not then I’d look at the zodias 7’2” mh or kistler probsbly
  8. I’ve tried 12” up to 8’ and doesn’t seem to make much of a difference unless your guides are micro guides then keep it shorter.
  9. A lot of good information there! I am pretty new to the drop shot. I’ve been trying it in my local ponds and reservoirs. For 5-15ft I’ve been running 1/8-1/4oz weights, and in a couples weeks I’m heading north where last year with weather temps we were picking up smallies between 35-55’ of water. For that I’ve got 3/8 and 1/2oz to try! Been running 15lbs braid to a 8lbs floro leader and debating on trying 6lbs leader. Is there a negative to using too heavy of a weight in a situation you can get away with a lighter weight?
  10. I had a 7’ medium avid x. I have recently sold it but here’s what I can tell you about it. It was a little tip heavy but not bad with a nasci and stradic fk. Sensitivity was good, not the best but I’d say on point for value. Power was impressive, definitely had some serious back bone to it yet a decently soft tip. I liked it but it didn’t win me over and it has since moved on to a buddy who loves it. Micro guides were okay, still able to get an fg knot through them
  11. How does it handle 1oz baits? Does it feel over loaded? Or just on the upper end? Not looking for something that heavy. I have almost all other bases covered. Got flipping sticks, 894c glx jig rod, 853 nrx lighter jig rod and senko’s, 884 imx pro frog rod. Looking to replace the 734 yet still be able to handle a 1 oz whopper plppprr
  12. So my first casting rod I purchased was a dobyns Sierra 734c a few years back. Im looking at getting rid of a couple rods as buddies are looking at getting into it and upgrading. I’m looking for a rod that will cover paddle tails, small swimbaits, chatter baits , whopper plopper 90 and 110, moving bait rod. Kind of the do everything rod. Looking at shimano exprides as I recently acquired a spinning expride and love the feel. Any suggestions on which expride for a universal rod. 7’2” medium heavy or heavy maybe? I’ve upgraded every other casting rod in the arsenal other then this one. Suggestions on which expride would be best.
  13. I agree with the 3/4oz might be a touch heavy for the 893c. I fish the 1/4-1/2oz on a 853c and love it, but when I tried heavier it felt a touch to heavy. Now the 893c is a bit more stout so I would try it but if it was my main goal. The 3/4oz feels pretty good on my 894. Gives you a reason to buy a new rod lol
  14. You will love it! I had the same issue with my tatula Sv. One of the most finicky reels I own. I picked up a K and it’s what got me hooked on shimano. The K is a wicked reel at a good price. Buttery smooth, solid, casts a mile. Only a small while after fishing the K I was so pleased I purchased 3 chronarch mgls, a bantam mgl, and looking for another currently. Love the shimano reels.
  15. I’d probably go for a dobyns fury or Sierra 735, or a st. Croix mojo bass 7’4” heavy paired with a curado k 7 or 8 gear ratio.
  16. I’ve recently been throwing them on a shimano expride 7’ light+ and have been extremely pleased with this set up!
  17. I have a chronarch mgl on mine and love it! Loads of power, casts a country mile, light and balances well. If i were to replace it, it would probably be with a bantam mgl.
  18. Okay perfect. i have an imx Pro 845c that I was debating on trying, or a Sierra 734c or even a kistler helium medium heavy fast
  19. I’d like to try the 75, 90, and 110. If I remember I only have the 90 and 110.
  20. Exactly what title reads. Looking to try out the whopper plopper this season and wondering what style rods you guys throw them on?
  21. Depends on the water I’m on with the kind of cover it has. If it’s heavy thick matted cover I throw a heavier weight, with a heavy wire hook. If it’s more open then I throw egw 3/0 or 3/0 off set worm hook. It’s generally 50lbs line, haven’t had the need for heavier yet. The bodies of water I fish mainly don’t get too matted up. Rod is a heavy extra fast.
  22. I have an expride and had a st. Croix avid x. I’ve fished with the zodias but only once and for an extremely short period. From what I’ve been told that shimano did an excellent job of mimicking rods power and action from line to line. The avid x was nice, solid rod, good power but didn’t really do anything for me personally. The expride blew me away and if the zodias is anything like the expride I’d be going zodias.
  23. In heavier cover then the 894c, in more open water or 3/8 and less I would go 893 or 853c
  24. I would be going with ci4+ as well!
