Daiwa frog reel
I use a 7’4” H mojo for frogs. Had a Fuego CT on it with 65lb braid and it worked awesome. I like the Daiwa braking profile but the ergonomics are not my favorite. The reels are well made, I definitely recommend them if they “fit” you. I have a Curado K on this year and the ergonomics are better for me, but I sometimes miss the Daiwa braking.

Fishing podcast
Glenn’s videos are quite good. Tactical and Fish the moment are up there too. There are some smaller channels I like but the videos don’t come out as often, Mr. Bass is one that comes to mind. BTL is entertaining at times. I find myself fast forwarding through a lot of it though.

Bass Fishing History
I agree! It’s amazing the changes in just the last 10 years. I grew up watching Hank Parker, Roland, Dance, Wilson, Grigsby on the tv shows. Tournament fishing wasn’t in my veins yet, I was pretty young, but dad was doing tournaments and I just loved to fish. My dad and my uncle and guys in dads club were my first teachers, of course the shows and old BASS magazines. I remember reading bazzdozer articles in the school library computer through high school when I should have been studying, haha. I remember meeting Hank Parker, Bill Dance, Guido Hibdon at the 92 fishing fair at bass pro, I was 5. I’m not enamored by people, but adults can leave lasting impressions for a child, like it did me. It’s just a great sport. Yes I think studying history can improve your skill and knowledge. All the old stuff still works, and often lures and techniques come full circle and become popular again. Ribbon tail worm fishing seemed almost on a back seat in conversation a few years ago, now it’s a popular summer time lure again! There are many examples. Obviously equipment has changed, and usually for the better, but if you read old articles on masters of a certain lure, David Fritts and crankbaits, Larry Nixon and Worms, Denny Brauer or Dee Thomas and jigs, Hibdons and finesse jigs, Monsoor and swim jigs, the list goes on, this stuff is priceless.

Spro or Booyah Pad Crasher
I like both and will grab either with no rhyme or reason. I like the regular ones over matts and popping ones everywhere else.

Older green and black Cabela's bag
I have the Cabelas Advanced Angler “large” bag. I like it a lot, not too big, not too small, made very well. It’s all I use for tackle. I got mine two years ago and I believe they changed it to “advanced angler II” about a year ago. Some bags will have the cabelas logo, others have the BPS logo. Same bag. The new version has some extra goodies apart from the old version. I’ve looked at them in the store and the quality appears the same as past.

Abu Garcia Black Max
This reel will serve you well. Enjoy it. Good luck at your tournament, don’t eat a spicy burrito the night before and “try” to get plenty of rest. And take it easy on the Red Bull in the morning. Have fun.

St Croix Bass X Rod
I have 2 bass x 7’1” mh casting rods. I like them a lot. I wish they put the bass x grip on the mojo. I catch as many on that rod as I do any other. No issues with them and I fish them hard.

Flippin/pitching set up
Good luck!

Run&Gun or Low&Slow
It all depends on how I’m fishing. On a lake I don’t know very well, I try to find a productive area or two and pick it apart. On my home lakes, I have way too many spots and there are times I’m cherry picking the best parts of the spots. It’s been both good and bad. I’d honestly rather fish low and slow given the chance. When fishing at a high pace, I tend to rush casts, not being accurate enough or backlashing.

Flippin/pitching set up
I use a lot of strait braid, not exclusively but close. For pitching in grass I’m straight braid, 40lb, and 3/4oz jig or punch rig or less I’m using a mh st. Croix, which might be stiff to some, but not at all for me. What hook are you using? I might have missed that. If you are having trouble with a straight shank try an ewg superline. The weed guard on a jig should help keep the hook in. I loose more on the heavy weights than I do the light weights, I feel the weight can work against you and I think the fish has a tendency to hit the heavy weight rigs fast, and also spit them fast. Anything 1oz or heavier I go to a heavy st. Croix. Dial back the hook set. Not sure your reel ratio, I use an 8:1 to take up slack quick.

Braid for older bass pro rods
I had some of those rods, I believe they had Fuji hardaloy guides. I had no problems with braid.

What's Your Take On Spiral Or Acid Wrap Rods?
I heard of Rich Forhan (sp) (Rain shadow?) years ago, I believe it was Gary Klein that used him as a builder for awhile. His quantum flipping sticks might have been spiral wrapped come to think of it. I used a rod called “Gorilla Stick”, no clue where they are made, a friend bought some that were spiral wrapped. The torque reduction could be noticed, like stated above, no real spine.

C-Rig
I don’t Carolina rig too often, but when I do I seem to catch fish. Usually I run 40lb braid to a 14-15lb mono leader. I’ve only ever used the pre rigged kits, and I don’t really care for those, seems I’ve broken a few over the years. I like the idea of a finesse c-rig, mostly around sand bottom in grass. I’ve used a split shot plenty, with success. What about the mojo rig? There was a woman in our old bass club that carried a mojo rig kit and some worms and beat a lot of eyes shut from the back deck. What do y’all recommend for weights and ways to “peg” them? I tried a 1oz flipping weight the other day with a bobber stop and it kept sliding on me. Thanks!

Jig/Worming/Skipping setup?
I can’t pinpoint a brand and don’t have experience with the Daiwa rods but I do best with rods in the 6-6 to 6-10 range. Abu, st. Croix, fenwick , Kistler all work for me in mh-f. They all feel equally sensitive idk. But that length is my juice for skipping. I’m sure you will like the one you bought.

What are your "must haves"?
Jigs, Texas rigged worm, senko, frog, traps, pop-r, I’d be happy happy happy.

Trust Your Instincts
I carry as well. Glad the suspects have been caught. Stay safe, there are some desperate and heartless folks out there.

Pros and Cons of joining a Bass club
Ive been in several clubs over the years. Ive been tournament fishing for 18 years, so over half my life. I got burnt out of team trails and opens. I do one open a year now, and the local club im in does 8 tournaments, $20 a piece, but I dont need to fish a single one if I dont want to. We are competitive, but we also share alot of information with one another. My dad is in the club as well, and often time we will fish together, even if it means I take the back seat, It doesn’t matter to me. We will strategize as a team, even though our weights go against each other. I get my competitive fix without caring too much or investing in high entry fees. We are a BASS affiliated club, so members are able to climb the federation ladder if they choose. We get some awesome club sponsors and sweet deals on gear from local shops. We also do alot of charity work, highway cleanups, fund raising for all different things. I enjoy the club Im in, but Ive belonged to clubs not so enjoyable and much more cut throat. Ya definitely can learn alot from a good club.

Initial Thoughts: Review of Teckel Sprinker Frog vs. Booyah Toad Runner vs. Homemade Teckel Sprinker Frog
I remember seeing this post. Tried the toad runner when it came out with very poor hookups. Love the idea of the lure, but i never seen much success with it. Seeing this is pushing me to try the homemade version, which I wanted to try a year ago and never did. ??♂️ Glad it worked well for you!

Big bass only
I think a big bass tournament is great. I think the strategy would be different. Less fish in the livewell, less stress. Id do it if such an event existed around here.

Who sells/makes the best line cutter?
i love this tool.

Frogs
I like these too. the original is my finesse frog, the trophy i like for matts, and the booyah poppin pad crasher gets the nod the most for me, but i really like it for sparse cover or wooded shore line where i can work it in one place.
- Something about a pitching stick and a jig

Braid for Frogs
I know anglers who punch with yellow braid for that reason, no reason why you can’t do the same with a frog.
-
Popping or regular frog...
I’m to the point I could live with a popping pad crasher all day every day, it’s my go to. I have frogs for heavy Matt’s and ones for walking, but the booyah does that and every thing else equally well in my opinion. The hooks aren’t super huge or thick, but I’ve never bent one out either.
