  1. My club has gone in on Jerseys, I have yet to purchase one though since we switched from FLW to BASS. I guess it’s just not a priority to me. It’s neat and uniform when fishing club evens or doing any function as a club, but it doesn’t make sense otherwise. I like to look tidy on the water, but I’m not out to make a fashion statement. My good Huk hat and a nice performance shirt is enough for me. Hanes makes some comfortable performance shirts that won’t break the bank and you won’t have to wear your club jersey all the time.
  2. The bass x is a nice rod, so is the mojo in 7’1”mh. I prefer the mojo though for baits that I’m fishing the bottom with, like jigs. It’s crisp and transmits the bite very well.
  3. If I’m filling up a Plano container for a day of fishing, a jig is the first bait that goes in that box. It is the most versatile bait, to me. The second is a Texas rig, with a bag of senkos, a bag of power worms, and a bag of beaver/craw baits. A Spinnerbait is third, a frog is fourth, and a buzz bait is fifth. I’d also consider a lipless crank, a square bill crank, and maybe a jerk bait. 2 colors max for each bait. Not a perfect system, but covers the bases well. As a co angler you need baits you can work in different ways, baits you can cast well and be efficient with. I would carry the least amount of tackle possible as a co, to avoid possible confusion. Are you planning on fishing BFLs?
  4. I hear ya, I’m always picking up garbage around the boat ramp, fishing line will often be anywhere imaginable. Out bass club puts a line recycling container right at the ramp. Also, dad found a like new Booyah pad Crasher the other day fishing together. It wasn’t high in the tree at all....score!
  5. Do I think that rod will match your needs? Yup! I use 7’ ish fast rods for a lot of things, works for me.
  6. That’s interesting and I admire that as i prefer to keep things simple. I like the Plopper frogs but haven’t had enough success with them yet to have them in the arsenal, although I’d like them to be! Are you throwing the teckel sprinker? The whopper Plopper I am just starting out on.
  7. What was a high dollar model in its day was it not? Very nice looking reels. My dad had the gold 10xg that he gave to me as my “first bait caster”. I have it on my toolbox in the garage as a show piece.
  8. I’m a frog fishing addict as well, it too is my favorite. I use a regular scum frog, a Strike King frog, and a booyah popping frog depending on conditions, with the popping frog getting the most use. I keep my colors simple, chartreuse, white, or black belly. I prefer to throw them on a 7’1” mh rod, with 40lb braid, but if it’s nasty cover I throw it on my 7’4” H with 65lb. Either setup has a 8:1 ratio reel attached. Frog fishing is so addicting, and produces some of my biggest bites of the year for me, consistently from year to year.
  9. Good choice on the lightning rod. Now he’s “hooked”!
  10. Had some in this series back in the day. Those rods had nice components too, fuji sic guides, wish I would’ve kept them. To the op, I use a 6-6 or 7-1 mh fast with 30-40lb power pro, no matter what. I catch em pretty good on a swim I think.
  11. That’s super awesome! I’m sure I had like thoughts at 17. My mom took my senior photos, all fishing related. Took a photography class, every picture was of a lure, rod and reel, or bass. Quit football to fish, lol. Thanks for sharing.
  12. Sounds like a fun morning! I caught some this morning too, on a frog and buzzbait. ?. It sounds to me like you high sticked the rod. It’s common to break a rod landing the fish bringing the rod very high, super easy to do by mistake. If you use the entire rod to lift the fish from the water it’s much lass likely to cause a problem. Yes, a bend beyond 90 degrees creates a lot of stress on a graphite blank. Any graphite rod is subject to break in that manner. Sorry it happened. ?
  13. I have old mojos, new mojos, and bass x. I’ve been a st. Croix fan boy for years, but one thing that bothers me a tid bit is the flex coat that is applied to the entire blank. It’s for durability, I’m sure. See, St. Croix never did this on any of their models, well at least once upon a time. Original premier, Avid, and Legend were “unfinished”. I always felt the full gloss blanks were a touch heavier and slower, but I’m really splitting hairs when I say that. The new mojo has the “better” blank, but I’m pretty dang happy with Bass X rods lately. And if you notice, they went old school with the unfinished blank. And by golly, it does feel lighter and more crisp than the original mojo built on the same material. Just got to be a bit more careful with a rod that isn’t glossed. Try to handle both and which ones you like. In casting, I also like the handle a bit better, as it’s a touch longer than that of the mojo. Can’t speak on behalf of spinning, but don’t think you can go wrong with either.
  14. If it’s working for you why change? The term sensitive is a real thing, but overrated. I have $50 rods that are just as sensitive as my $250 rods. Build quality might go up, but probably not. Often times the more expensive rod will have a lighter crisper action, But that difference is much less noticed above $150 or so. A moving bait rod is often slower in action, some Angler’s like that type of action for bottom contact, some not as much. I’d use what you have.

Great frog! This is one of the most versatile frogs I’ve used, have a ton of confidence in it. I also agree with keeping a bit of slack in the line. I often throw a frog on a 7’1”mh as it’s short enough to walk the frog without slapping the water. I do prefer to pop the frog however.
  16. I love that rod mentioned. Used it tonight with an older citica and 30lb braid to throw an 1/8oz bullet weight Texas rigged pit boss. I was making short casts and pitches and occasionally launching it out 30 yards or so, I have no issue. Got my limit too ?
  17. On chatterbaits I throw a yum pulse. On a swim jig, I have always thrown an action plastics or kalins grub, at least 99% of the time. A zoom chunk or swimming chunk works too.
  18. 3/0 for tubes and flukes, 4/0 for everything else. Superline Ewg
  19. On spinning rods I use 20lb power pro, and adjust leaders as necessary. On baitcasters I use 30lb power pro, and rarely use leaders. Flipping and heavy frogging gets 65lb pp, with no leader.
  20. Sweet setup, really nice Lund! Beautiful truck. I have a 99 with over 300k, same color. Original motor and trans. It’s been all over the country fishing, since dad had it. I bought a 12 f150 in 15, it stays in the garage. I just cannot part with the 99. I know it like the back of my hand.
  21. I have been in glitter rockets all my life, and have owned my current one for over a decade, thankfully it’s paid for , which allows me to use it a whole lot more! ? I love it, however, there are issues with bass boats, especially older ones like mine with a not so crappy but sometimes stubborn two stroke. They can be maintenance heavy if neglected or maintenance light if taken care of, but you will always be investing money into it. Every year something needs to get fixed or replaced. It’s to the point where I budget for it and expect those costs. Just last night a guy in my Tuesday nighter asked when I’m getting a new boat, I replied, no time soon. Nothing wrong with a new one, heck I’d love to have a new one, but it doesn’t fit my budget, for some, it may! Now, about a month ago I purchased two fishing kayaks for my girlfriend and me, and so far I am having a blast out of it! I’m learning way more about kayaks than I ever thought I could. It’s a different experience, it reminds me of when I would fish out of my uncles 10’ jon for smallies as a kid. I’m honestly hooked! I’d say, gets kayak first! Pay cash for it, and it’s something you can keep for the rest of your life with no regrets, pretty easy on gas too! I still recommend a bass boat too, but I’d get the kayak first.
  22. I went for the first time two years ago, the pressure reminded me of guntersville, just unreal. It’s crazy to me how many Angler’s take these lists seriously and go hunt the next trophy lakes. We need to keep growing this sport ya know. ?
  23. Yup same here. No need to go wild on a hookset. I was breaking ewg superlines and other strong hooks doing that. Dialing back the hookset is necessary to keep from loosing fish. Otherwise dial back the drag a bit. Never slack like a hookset with braid, just pull hard and reel. Greg Hackney has some good videos on this.
  24. Vinegar is a good safe suggestion. I know some of the high acid cleaners work very well, like ones meant to remove urine salts from plugged urinals, but do not get that stuff on your hands. I like an eagle one product called wipe and shine detailer, or more recently turtle wax ice.
