  1. Thanks guys.
  2. Hello everyone. Its been a while since I've logged in. Last week I was doing hurricane prep and this week I've been busy with cleanup so I've not had much extra time to get on here. I got really lucky. No damage to my home and power was back on Monday night when I returned home from the shelter. I hope everyone else fared as well as I did.
  3. I don't have a ton of tackle, but I do have everything in one box. I just wanted the convience of being able to carry it all on my back.
  4. Id like to try trout fishing one day. I've heard that it's very challenging.
  5. Welcome! I'm going to figure something out once my current bag wears out. I like the Cabela's one that was mentioned earlier. I currently don't even have a backpack to use. My old one was used for a suitcase for many years and it ripped so I had to toss it.
  6. Nice. It was a long time before I caught my first catfish.
  7. That's awesome. Did you keep the mangrove and eat it? Those are tasty.
  8. I miss home sometimes. There are a few good places down there now. Captain Nance's is good. Good clam chowder. I've never fished on Ocean Isle Beach. I like the cherry grove pier just across the state line. I used to fish there every Saturday for several years.
  9. Ive never caught a bass on a nightcrawler. Panfish will tear them up but bass don't seem to want any part of them for me. I have caught bass on plastic worms so that one is a mystery.
  10. I don't know about oyster bay but in sea trail if you stay out of the golfers way nobody will say anything to you.
  11. There's some great bass fishing up that way. The ponds in Sea Trail in Sunset beach. I've caught some giants out of there.
  12. My Parents live in Calabash. I lived there most of my life until I moved to florida.
  13. I know Ft. Fisher. Im from right down the road about an hour.
  14. I love my Hamilton's in 580g blue mirror. I like the Blokes. I need to try a pair of those on to see how they feel.
  15. Some good ones so far. I got one of those telescopic poles a while back to try and experience the cane pole style. I've yet to take it out though.
  16. That's awesome. If I had a chance at a tarpon when I was kid I probably would have lost my mind.
  17. I was thinking about the very first time I went fishing as a kid. I was with my dad sitting on the side of a farm pond throwing worms and catching blue gills. I don't remember how old I was. I know that I was young though. Probably somewhere around 5 or 6. I thought this would be a good discussion here on the forums. What is the story of your first time fishing? Or what happened that sparked your interest in fishing?
  18. I have a Plano similar to that. Its wearing out though, There are holes in the bottom of it. I should get another year out of it.
  19. I'm not sure if its strange but definitely unintended. I was fishing in some golf course ponds one afternoon and I caught an alligator.
  20. I fish just for the fun of it. I have no interest in tournaments. I try as hard as I can every time I go out to catch as much as I can but I understand there are times that just aren't productive and the fish just won't bite. I don't keep fishing secrets either. If I have good luck in certain spots I let my buddies know so they can go catch a few fish. If I try a technique that works, I will share that with my buddies as well. The sport should be fun for everyone.
  21. Ill have to take a look at the one from Cabela's. There isn't a store anywhere around me so I tend to forget about them. I don't own a boat so all of my fishing is done from shore.
  22. Yea I usually carry all of that stuff minus the chair. A tackle backpack would free my hands up so I could carry a chair though. Rods and holders in one hand the chair in the other.
  23. I understand that. I have a Plano bag now and it's pretty heavy. I keep my salt stuff in there as well so I have probably 2 pounds worth of weights on top of all of my other tackle. Just seems to me like the backpack would be easier to carry if I am moving.
  24. The one I was looking at is the Spiderwire fishing backpack from Dick's Sporting Goods. Says it has a cooler compartment which will be nice where I am. I currently take something to drink with me and stick it in the mesh pocket on the back of my over the shoulder bag and within an hour it's warm.
  25. Does anyone use one of these? My bag has a hole in the bottom so it's on it's way to be retired. I think I'm going to go with one of the tackle backpacks. They seem to be really handy. I'm surprised they aren't more common then they are.
