  1. I may be wrong but I always just used cord from the hardware store cut to length...
  2. I have 2, Walmart brand EverstartMaxx group 31 batteries in my 15' sea nymph they power a 55lb Minn Kota Power drive. I have had these batteries for 4 or 5 years now. I keep them in a heated garage on a trickle charger when it starts getting cold out. I also have an Everstart group 24 I use in my 1836 jet Jon. It powers a Minn Kota endurance C2 55lb. Iv only had it since this spring.
  3. Nope. Car batteries are not designed for repeated deep discharge. You will kill it pretty fast.
  4. It's your call man. Do you trust him? I think there are better deals out there.
  5. A battery could run you $75-130 for wet cell, more if you want an AGM. I think the point slonezp was making is that you should plan on having to buy a battery even if you get one with the motor. The battery might run the motor great just to see it run out of water for a few minutes but only last 10 to 20 minutes under load. Unless that battery is only a couple months old I wouldn't risk it.
  6. I like the pit boss weightless or with a keel weighted hook. Glides nicely over submerged weed beds.
  7. You'll be glad to have those plastics when they aren't hitting moving baits. Watch Glenn's bass resource YouTube vids to learn how to use em. In my opinion Glenn makes the most focused, understandable, educational fishing vids.
  8. Papajoe, are you saying that instead of grinding you just bump the bottom then pause for a slow rise? How much grinding into the bottom are you doing?
  9. Weightless senkos ,trick worms, or pit boss. If the senkos sink into the moss too fast I'd switch to a stick worm with less salt. Looks like you could effectively fish all kinds of topwater baits.
  10. I'm ashamed to say I was not aware it would harm the fish. I'm not in the habit of laying fish on the ground so I guess I hadn't really thought about it. I usually have my rods marked for measuring but I was using my new Lunkerstick and had not marked it yet. Thanks for letting me know.
  11. Ok, well I guess in the simplest terms, after a certain lb thrust you're just wasting power. The higher lb trust motors have more power but won't add much more speed. If you're not worried about weight or using a bit more juice or the additional cost then go with the 55. Then you'll have the extra power if you get a bigger boat later on. If you wanna save on some weight, save some money, and use less juice go with the smaller motor. I think the 40 would be plenty for a canoe but that would just be speculation on my part as I have not tried it.
  12. Start with the basics. Is the pump clogged? I have an open bilge so I get all kinds of debris in my pump. Just clean it out and away it goes. Do you have a meter? Is there voltage at the pump? If not then you have a wiring problem. I wouldn't put larger fuses in it. You risk burning up the wiring or the pump motor if you go too big. Not much can be deduced until you actually have a look at the pump. Is it hard to get to?
  13. New personal best last night. Decided to explore a new section of river. It payed off. 17" smallie on the whopper plopper.
  14. Love roadrunners! My fav is a 1/8oz with a keitech easy shiner on back. Incredibly versatile and easy to use.
  15. I have no confidence in Texas rigs or skirted jigs. I would say I have no confidence in bottom contact baits but I've done ok using keel weighted hooks with senkos and beaver tail style baits drug across bottom.
  16. My 15ft by 60in wide V bottom goes about 5 mph with a 55lb Minn Kota. My 12ft by 36in wide flat Jon goes about 5 mph with a 55lb Minn Kota. I haven't tried it on the canoe yet but I bet it will go about 5 mph lol. Do some googling for "displacement hull speed and trolling motor power", if you would like a more scientific reasoning as to why more power doesn't equal more speed.
  17. I have two walmart $120 deep cycles that are going on 5 yrs now. I use a Schumaker auto charger after every trip. I have only needed to add water once so far and have not noticed any diminished charge capacity. I don't use agm batts in the boat but we have a bunch at work. They are supposed be able to be discharged deeper and more discharge cycles before going bad. The old optimas we had amazing longevity. avg life 10 yrs or so. We started having problems with the newer ones and have been switching around ever sence. Not sure who makes a good AGM batt these days.
  18. I use seafoam in everything. Works great. I didnt know Mercury had a similar product and thus have not tried it.
  19. In a canoe you should be able to use any small trolling motor. 30lb should be fine. The higher lb motors will have more power for fighting wind and current but wont gain you much top speed. The c2 with digital maximizer will cause sonar interference if you run a motor and fish finder on the same battery. May not apply to your situation but i thought id put it out there.
  20. Hi fellow Hoosiers. New here. Been lurking for a couple years. Just wanted to tell tstraub to be selective about where you launch your canoe at Miss Res. Almost swamped a 14' tri hull a couple years ago. Lots of big boats and wake on the weekends. The cartop launch on the far East end would be ok if the current isn't to strong.
