  1. HPA makes a 21x12x12 semi-rigid dry storage/livewell for kayaks in satin black with orange graphics. The 'Buy It Now' is a cool $100 w/free shipping but the same unit usually starts at $50 on auction with the same free shipping.
  2. Thanks, works like a champ!!!
  3. Try the pond at the Lynnhaven Mall next to the old Toys 'R' Us, my buddies have caught nice fish there, one went +6 lbs!
  4. I haunt eBay looking for that exact rod, they usually go for 180-200 and with a ton of bidders. At that asking price I'd already have a lure tied and and casting! I love mine and throw anything and everything on it with the utmost confidence, it just works that well.
  5. The drawback to bank fishing here is that with limited access the available spots get hit pretty hard. Sure, there's no one around when you arrive but that's due to the other dozen or so anglers who've already hammered it that day having left in disgust! Out of the way retention ponds seem to be the winning ticket for consistent action and actually produce decent fish though any fish is better than none at all in my book!
  6. I've been itching to try one of the Wild River backpacks but the price is a bit rich. On the plus side they're made by an outfit that has been producing commercial duty tool bags forever so they know how to build for durability which should translate to a bag that lasts forever. They even have a model with a built in solar charging panel to power whatever!
  7. That particular flavor of Loomis is my next rod purchase be it IMX or GLX. I have the IMX in 6'6" MH and have never fished a more versatile stick. In fact I would take the MBR series over anything else just because it can do everything and do it well, important when you can only bring a couple of setups and use multiple techniques with effect. If it's of the last two variations of this model then the price is on point if using eBay as reference. Being used should provide some haggle room so try for $150ish and consider it the best purchase you'll make this year..and the next and the next. If I was closer I'd buy it myself!
  8. Checked out the deals at the Ollie's in my area but those Lucky Craft are marked $6.99, still a fair price but not anything I'm cleaning out racks for. In fact I left empty handed!
  9. Ebay has become a go to for some small brick and mortar stores, allowing them to sell higher volume and thus reap the rewards of buying in volume as well! No sales force is needed and the only time the seller has to handle anything is answering questions (easily done over a cup of coffee) and the actual shipping of the item which with boxing would be the equivalent in time of helping a customer with an in-store sale. Far from hurting their profit margin it instead helps as the increased revenue allows for lower prices at their retail store and thus allow them remain competitive with the big boys like Dicks. Frankly, this is a fine model for just about any sporting goods/tackle shop to use in an age where onsite retail is suffering and benefits both customer and seller alike.
  10. Fishing any natural body of water from shore is frustrating but especially here as heavy cover limits access to casting lanes and the spots that are open face heavy pressure from the 'Bucket Brigade' who keep everything they catch regardless of size or species. Add to this is the large number of active duty military (can't fit a boat in your seabag) and you are in for a frustrating experience. Your best bet would be drainage ponds and canals located around malls and shopping centers. Sounds nuts but there's lots of big bass in them and they are much easier to locate and catch given the limited size of water and cover, plus they tend to be fished by responsible folks who practice catch and release so they tend to consistently hold a viable population of fish. Sounds silly until your buddies show you pics of the +5 pounders they hook in the Toys R Us pond while on lunch break or the the multiple big fish they pulled in a drainage canal next to Walmart!
  11. Personally, I'd go with rods and reels as a big ticket item and then pick up baits/lures one or two a week over the winter. This keeps it economical and also provides an excuse to go to the tackle shop on a regular basis. I force myself to only purchase one or perhaps two items per trip, it makes sure you stay selective and don't fall into the 'one of every color' trap that the Bait Monkey likes to lay.
  12. And here I thought it was just me! Lost four more over the long weekend and decided that I won't toss another till I have a outfit specifically tailored for the task rather than one of my MH rigs. That's the the problem with shore fishing, you can only tote so much and in thick cover it becomes a nightmare! I generally carry two rods but looks like threes a charm if I want in on the jig game.
  13. That's actually the going rate on Chronarchs, just make sure you factor in the shipping as the ones from Japan usually charge $20+ and are generally used. Sportsman's Guide had them for $176 late summer and Simmons Sporting Goods has one on eBay every week and they sell around $180 when bidding tops out. I picked up a new Chronarch MGL off eBay for $165 earlier this fall, a super deal to be sure but proves the point that they can be had if one is patient and ready to pull the trigger when the deal presents itself.
