  1. Skinny dippers make it difficult to fish. You can fish these baits on a weighted swimbait hook, unweighted hook or on a jighead. How you retrieve them is up to you and the fish. Brad
  2. I know what you guys mean. I hate fishing out of someone else's boat and having to take only part of the arsenal. I just use a duffle style tackle bag and put together baits in utilitty boxes that I know I will use at that lake at that time. Brad
  3. I need to get out more... I somehow have never seen these. Best of all, it's an excuse to build another rod!! I don't have a shakey rod!! ;D ;D You need an excuse to build that rod? Man, I thought you were a bass fisherman. Brad
  4. Something straight tailed in the 4" - 6" range in Watermelon, wacky rigged. Brad
  5. Yep, I hook the weedguard over the barb. Does not get in the way of the hookset and helps it stay in place in cover. As for Orings, they help with any stickworm on a Wacky rig IMO. I've used one Senko for hours rigged this way and caught a lot of fish on it. Brad
  6. I've used lots of different worms, creatured baits, craw baits, lizards, etc. Just like with a texas rig, the hook has to have the correct length and gap for the bait being fished. Brad
  7. You've discovered one of the problems of frog fishing. You will miss some fish. That's the way frogging is. When a bass takes your frog and turns back down into the weeds, a lot of your hookset force can get absorbed by heavy vegetation. Add some line stretch and a rod not strong enough and it is possible to not get a good hookset. I switched my frogging gear to a dedicated 7'6" flipping stick and 50 lb. Power Pro. My success has been very good with this rig. Not perfect, but better than other rigs I have tried. Brad
  8. Nothing beats a boat for holding all the tackle you need. And beleive me, anyone who owns a boat has stuffed it full. Brad
  9. Tear up one end, turn it around. Tear up that end, wacky rig it. There is no wrong way to fish a Senko. Brad
  10. The Picasso Heads, round and football, are good heads. As are the Reaction Innovations heads. The Gambler Giggy head with 5/0 hook is a good one also. Brad
  11. Most of the time, if you're wacky rigging with Orings and come back with no bait upon a hookset, the fish only had one end of the bait and it tore off when you set the hook. I use the 2/0 Gammy wide gap weedless hook quite a bit with 5" Senkos and Orings and seldom do I miss or lose fish. As for a hookset, I set the hook the same as if I was using a Trig. Works 99% of time. Brad
  12. I'm a huge SPRO fan, but the River 2 Sea frogs are getting more use this season. Good hookups and very little problems. Still, it's no big deal to me to squeeze some water out of the frog now and then and it has yet to be a fishability problem with any frog. Brad
  13. These are great baits. They make a ton of noise and you an fish them about anywhere without snagging. I've got a tournament coming up on a grass filled lake and the matted parts will get a workout with this bait along with a frog. Brad
  14. Be sure to try them Texas rigged in the grass as well. Not just in the holes, but punch them through the thick stuff using a heavy weight. These are great baits. I have caught a ton of fish on them. Those colors should work fine in your lake. Brad
  15. Great little crankbaits. The Old Glory, Spooky and Clear Chartreuse are my fav colors. Brad
  16. Weighted swimbait hooks are a hot, hot, hot item right now. I have eight boxes of hooks on backorder from Lake Fork as of right now. They have a few thousand packs on backorder for dealers, so who knows when I will get mine. Davis Baits makes a standard weighted EWG swimbait hook as well as a weighted swimbait hook with a screw lock. They come in standard wire and heavy wire versions. I believe they have versions up to 8/0. Brad
  17. Don't give fish too much credit, they are not that smart. They do not know what metal, plastic, rubber or wood is. They are reactionary creatures. I have yet to see any bait fail to produce year after year on the larger waters I fish. I will agree with Raul. A small population of fish, as in a small pond that only holds a few fish, can get conditioned to a certain presentation. I have seen this first hand in my retention pond that only has a few dozen fish in it. I killed the fish on bait X one year, but the next year, they seldom hit it. I changed the speed, and nothing more, and the bite was back on all summer. Brad
  18. I noticed your fishing in creeks and rivers. In said waters, I normally use smaller jigs and the Paca Tiny Chunks are great trailers for small jigs. The Tiny Paca Craws are great as well and they also give you a good little craw for texas rigging. Brad
  19. I almost always choose hooks based on the thickness of the bait, not the length. I have some 4" baits that require 5/0 hooks, but I have some 8" baits that a 2/0 is best for. I want enough gap to allow the bait to get out of the way on the hookset. Brad
  20. Seldom is a the trailer on my jig worth saving when I'm done using it, so I tear them off and toss them in the trash at the end of the day. If you want to reuse them, keep some super glue or similar product with you. One small drop and your keeper barb will keep the trailer on the jig, even it it's tore up a bit. If you're using chunk style trailers with the hook run throughg the nose, just take them off and put them back in the package, after you have let the water dry off. That way, you don't hve a wet bait in the bag or box. Brad
  21. Ditto on the heavy braid. The majority of froggin' is in heavy vegetation and nothing cuts grass and weeds like braid. Brad
  22. The LV-0 is an awesome, yet mostly ignored lipless crankbait. It is the easiest lipless bait to fish in shallow water. No need to hold the rod high, reel fast, use a small bait or heavier line. You can also slow roll this bait as well, slowly moving it along above the grass or bottom, and still get good vibration and noise. Keep tossing that little LV0. It's a great bait. Brad
  23. I got a few samples and they are a pretty cool swimbait. They have the same basic shape of the Basstrix with a hollow area running through the bait as well as a hook slot. They will have three sizes, 3", 4" and 5" I am really looking forward to throwing these as soon as I get a free chance to hit the pond. Brad
  24. As soon as bass get in shallow water, I'll start throwing the super shallow crankbaits. They work great around shallow flooded wood and over grass beds.
  25. My best colors for most plastics are the watermelon and green pumpkin based colors. I like the Baby Paca better than the Paca. The Tiny Paca is a great little finesse craw that should not be overlooked. Brad
