Moving to Arkansas, looking for local advice
My wife and i will be in Hot Springs for a few days at the end of this month to check out the area. I'll be looking to see whats available for jobs. I'm a mechanic, but can do a little of everything. Wife is a physical therapist so she'll have no problems finding work.

Frog Rod Help
Couldn't agree more. I've used everything from a Ugly Stik GX2 to a St Croix for frog fishing. I now use a 7' MH Ugly Stik Elite and it's my favorite of them all. I don't need sensitivity to see my frog disappear. And the tip is perfect for frogs. Acts like a shock absorber. And as far as toughness, lol it's an ugly stik. Try and break it.

Better reel for pitching??
I had a Stealth. It was good for pitching. Pitching right into the garbage can the first day I used it.

Moving to Arkansas, looking for local advice
My wife and I are tired of the frigid Iowa winters, and are looking to move somewhere that doesn't get quite so cold. We're thinking Arkansas, and I'm looking at Russellville specifically. Because it's so close to Lake Dardanelle. I'll be going there in the next few months to take a look around, but I was hoping to ask for some advice from members from the area. I've got a wife and three kids. We're used to small town living, and would prefer to keep it that way. I'm not afraid of being out in the sticks lol. Any other areas in Arkansas that are great for local bass fishing? Thanks

Leader Material
Almost all my reels have braid mainline with flouro/mono leader. Which one i use depends on the fishing I'm doing. Topwater or very shallow I use mono for the simple fact it floats. Deeper fishing I use fluoro because it sinks. Only time I don't use a leader is frog fishing or fishing in very heavy cover. Then I use straight braid.

Determining the Color of Local Crawfish
I heard Gerald Swindle say that you only need a couple colors of jigs. Green pumpkin with a little purple in it, and black/blue. Now I have a few more colors than that, but in my experience if they're on a jig, you can't really go wrong with those two. Depending on water clarity and weather. I experiment with different trailer colors though.

New member from Iowa
I've been bass fishing from a kayak for a few years now. Looking to move to Arkansas in the next few years for warmer weather and bigger bass!

Horsing/Skiing fish to the boat
I try to get the fish to the boat as fast as possible. I think wearing a fish out with light tackle does far more damage to them than 'skiing' them to the boat.

rod selection for kayak
I carry anywhere from six to eight rods with me on my yak. Once I establish a pattern though, I'll usually end up using two or three mainly. But that changes daily. One day it may be a buzz bait/swim bait/creature baits that get the bite, the next day it might be a hollow body frog/square bill/swim jig type day. I want to have all those options and more available to me because I hate not having all my tools and I hate stopping to retie/change lures. Once I figure out which two or three rods I'll mainly be using I stow the rest behind me out of the way. Also, I prefer my kayak rods no longer than 7'. I like 6'6" even better.

Lews Tournament MB
I have one I use for fishing jigs. It has good casting distance, feels solid and smooth. One of my favorite reels to fish with.

Berkley Vanish Transition Fluorocarbon
I've only seriously got into bass fishing the last couple years. I only use FC for a leader with a braid mainline. I didn't know any better and picked up the Vanish from wally world. After breaking my line on five or six hook sets and seeing that it was never the knot that broke, always the FC, I almost gave up on it. I picked up some Seaguar Invisx and have had much better success with it. Will never go back to Vanish.

Are fish smart at all?
Or they didn't want a topwater bait that day?
