Finesse fishing books...
I have two. The Complete Guide to Finesse Fishing, Michael Jones.1991. West coast finesse, covers early techniques Finesse Fishing w/ Mike Iaconelli, 2011. Covers the current techniques. The Jones book is probably out of print, I guess look on ebay or Amazon. Ike's book may still be available as current. I power fish more than finesse, but found ideas in both I use.

Anyone still have AllStar rods from the 90’s?
Morgan McCain is making rods again, under his own name. The non compete clause in the sale to Shakespeare has expired.

Anyone still have AllStar rods from the 90’s?
Got WR-1, WR-2, SRM, MSTN2,and flippin rod. Keeping them, still fish with them. The newer branded All Star rods are imports, no more made is USA.

The Tennessee Handle
I have a couple, one is a Loomis custom made , another is a USA made All-Star. Both old, and still in use. These are the best for finding the correct balance point for the reel. Retaping can be a PIA, worth the effort. I have always heard this as a Tennessee wrap. The fishermen you sited are all from Tn.,as I am also.

Which one
I run an older Ranger 175VS, 2006, w/115 'rude. Two anglers and gear, I hit 42 on gps., upper 40's alone. Bought it when I lived on Champlain. Handles the big water well, just don't be in a hurry. Rock solid, just one small stress crack on console. Looked at many other boats at that length, Ranger was the nicest. Fits in my garage with swing away tongue, older house without much space. I'd do it again.

Troubleshooting a non-functional speedometer
I use an eighth inch drill bit and small vice grips to clear my pilot hole. It will pull out anything in there. Had mine filled with dirt, weeds small wood, the bit cleared it out. I use my GPS for accurate speed readings, speedo is off 3-4 mph.

How many carry extra prop?
Both big motor and TM. Carry the tools, and needed parts, nuts, shear pin thrust washer etc.. Slung an ear fishing Champlain, on the big motor pretty far from where I launched. Changed props, fished and home safely.

What is the absolute best steal of a deal you have ever gotten on fishing gear?
Local hardware discontinuing selling fishing. Original Big O, $2.00. Old bombers, whopper stoppers, etc similarly priced. Bargains on hooks, sinkers, everything else. My brother and I loaded up. Still fishing with some of those baits today.

Keowee or Chatuge......
Yea, Anderson is a pretty big town. If I moved back to S.C., I would look around Seneca or a little west to be close to the Smokies. Pendleton is about half way to Seneca from Anderson, I've only driven through it. Last time I lived in Anderson, I had a place across the street from the lake Hartwell, toward Hartwell, Ga. Had three launches about 10 minutes from the house. One plus to either area you look at, as you gain elevation, you lose humidity. Check lakes online. You can check the lakes you are thinking about, and they have a chart of the pool elevation covering 12 months. It will give you an idea of what you may deal with. Savannah river lakes, like the Tennessee have draw down for flood control, takes a little to become accustom to.

Keowee or Chatuge......
Lived in Anderson, SC, twice, 10 yrs apart. Lived in Murphy , NC. Move to South Carolina. Keowee, Hartwell, Jocassee, Russell, Clark Hill, Secession are all close, and offer different opportunities to fish. Also better shopping, health care and roads if you want to get away. More populated than Hayesville, NC. Chatuge and Hiawassee are drawn down for winter pool. The launches are high and dry, so no access to the lake. There is a marina on Chatuge if you want to keep your boat on the lake. Need to rent a slip. NW Georgia also has Nottley and Blue Ridge near Hayesville. Look at taxes in NC, income, property and personnel property. Your boat and stocks and bonds are taxed annually, plus income. Those areas in NW Georgia, SW N.C. are pretty isolated, so road trips are needed for some shopping. Having also lived in Olean, so I understand escaping winter. Of the two, I would be is South Carolina. Instead, we live in Chattanooga, where my wife is from.

Trailer compatible Hotels/motels
Two you can use: Hampton Inn, Scottsboro, Al.(Big G) ; Sleep Inn, Dayton , Tn.(Chickamauga) Both are newer and have electric hook-ups on the parking lot. They are geared toward folks who fish.

Sealing damaged fiberglass
I used angel hair resin filler for larger spots. Sanded smooth, and mixed gel-coat patch, put over the glassed in area. Sanded. The kit is around $70. now, and you can color match to your hull.

Anyone Use A Lure Retriever?
I have a Fritts style and BPS hound dog in my boat. Both with 30' of heavy twine. Use both , and for their cost, they have saved me $$$$$$$$$$$ in lost plugs. The Fritts style is my first choice for getting lures back. Heavier than the BPS model, a true knocker. Either would be good choices. My back up is an old golf ball retreiver. Works in brush, or where you can't get close enough with your boat.

What Braided Line To Get?
I use PowerPro, in light green ( Super Slick) or high vis yellow. Us old guys have a hard time using green or timber to see the line move. I use a floro leader, about three turns on the spool for my leader. PowerPro is 10#, leader 6-8#.

Abu Garcia Reel Sizes
I would use a size 30 reel, unless the reel will only be used for dropshot. The 30 has numerous uses, dropshot, neko, shakey, ned rig etc. 30 offers more versitility. Most of my spinning feels are 30's, including dropshot.

Tennessee Fishing
Been a long time since I lived around Nashville. I would recommend the two ramps off Rt. 109, which is between Gallatin and Mt Juliet. Flippers bait and tackle are right there also. This is in the river portion of Old Hickory. You have shallow, deep, grass, docks etc. right there. Priest , to me , is more crowded on weekends.

Fishing Tackle has been wiped out from stores.
Part of the issue is the shelter in place , and mandated closures which stopped production. Second is more folks bought licenses and fished, since many had more free time, and got tired of being cooped up.

Where should my buddies and I go for a week?
I live on Chick. Chick and big "G" are great green fish lakes. August will be hot, so most folks fish till 11 AM -noon, or night. Daytime has all the recreational boater, i.e. jet skis, pontoons, skiers, wake boarders etc. The grass will be up by then, that is an alternative to ledge fishing. They are about the limit of the driving range you are looking at. I go to Kalamazoo from here, about 11 hrs.

People who have fished the north and the south, how does your tackle/strategy change?
For me, the difference is many on You Tube are not fishing natural bodies of water. I lived in the north east, and almost everything fished was natural. I live in Tennessee now, and almost everything is resvivors. Big difference in clarity, and current. Chatterbaits are a big deal here, very effective. I use the same techniques on the clear lakes here , like Dale Hollow, as I did on natural lakes in the north. There are techniques and baits my fishing partners use, they don't work for me even when we are the same boat. Try things, and if they don't work, fish to your strengths.
