  1. Dingers. This is going to sound funny because stickbaits are considered do nothing baits, and that can be true. Anyone can fish them. However, not everyone can fish them the same. There's only one thing I consider myself an expert at in this sport, and it's Senko fishing. I can honestly say without a shadow of a doubt that Dingers are not nearly as good. They'll catch fish, but they aren't close to the same level. I've tried other stickbait brands because I fish them so much and blow through god knows how much money in Senkos every year, but it's worth it. Dingers would be my second option however.
  2. I've never had it happen before until now. I've heard about it, never seen it. These Presidents are new. I got them at a going out of business sale at a store that doesn't see much traffic (hence going out of business). The packaging is older. Wonder if that's why? No idea why. I actually put the 25 (the worst offender here) on a Fenwick HMG that doesn't have a reel on it at the moment and it seemed to fit that fine (although the seat is different). I'll probably get another HMG for the size 30 and give those to my wife since they pair apparently pair just fine, and then get some Daiwas for these Dobyns spinning rods.
  3. I was going to take the rod with the messed up guide in myself to get it fixed for 10 bucks. Now with the bend I'll just ship those back to TW for an exchange.
  4. Well we can shut this thing down. DOBYNS IS NOT AT FAULT, PFLUEGER IS AT FAULT. I put casting reels on the spinning rods and they fit perfectly. I put the spinning reels on the casting rods and they had the same issue with not locking down all the way. The size 25 on the ML is the worst offender. The size 30 on the M is slightly better. I also swapped the 25 and the 30 and the results were the same on the different spinning rods with the 25 being slightly worse. I APOLOGIZE TO DOBYNS
  5. No, they're not. I probably have them on too tight right now because of trying to figure this out. The casting ones do just barely pass, better than Jonnys up there, and that's fine. The spinning ones are terrible especially considering how a spinning rod is held. That "sharp" plastic lip because they won't lock down digs into the fingers quickly.
  6. Geeze, not even my casting ones come close to screwing down that far. If you look at my pic it just barely passes for being screwed down all the way. All of them are like that. Too much discrepancy going on here. Not a good look.
  7. Definitely an issue with the build then. I have the issue, you have the issue, but Columbia Craws are fine if you look at his pics. Quality control has got to be lacking recently. Strange that we both just got our rods with the same issues.
  8. I contacted them via email. I'll probably have to wait until tomorrow for an answer at this point. But naturally I'm upset that 4/5 rods have issues.
  9. Casting: Showing green because it screws down all the way. Spinning: No green because this is as far as it goes. This is junk and I can't believe people recommend them. You would think a company and a series of rods so highly recommended wouldn't be so trash.
  10. I took a chance on Dobyns for starting a new fleet of rods for my kayaking needs, and so far I've had nothing but questions or problems. I ordered 5 of them and 1 came with a bent eye and upon closer inspection cracked epoxy. I noticed another was bent at the top 1/3 of the rod. Some people say that bend is normal, but none of the other rods have that, and I've noticed in other brands some rods will also have that bend (like they were left to lean against something for too long and took that bend) while the vast majority of the same model do not. And now I have another issue, and one that I've never seen before. On the 2 spinning rods, the screw lock doesn't not lock down all the way on either rod with the Presidents I put on them. There's a good 1/4 inch that doesn't screw down at all and leaves a gap over the blank itself. Is that normal for Dobyns? One rod I would call it a defect, but two rods I call it an issue (maybe?).
  11. Oh, yay! Let's open it and see what it says... ...
  12. I was on Old 66 in my neck of the woods in Illinois and the damage this winter did to it is unreal.
  13. I think Tom is wrong. I've never had a spool feel completely smooth. You're getting a bunch of normals with 2 people saying otherwise. Either we all have bad line and bad reels or 2 people are wrong.

I got a bottle and used it tonight after I spooled up some of my setups. I haven't even fished after using it yet but the difference it made is already extremely noticeable. This stuff is legit. One question though. There's no chance it can mess up my reels right?
  15. I used to use their Omniflex mono years ago. I never actually had many problems with it. Memory was pretty bad though. Now I have many old spools that I use for backing.
  16. On the 8th day God created squarebills to combat this.
  17. Sorry to hear that your parents won't help you. In today's world, if a kid says they want some fishing gear and that's the hobby they choose, we adults should be all over it. It's hard to get some kids outside and keep them out of trouble. SMH As far as rods, I don't have an SLX but I've heard they're great rods. I looked into them but their selections are so minimal that I couldn't find a use for any of them. I either already had something better or I didn't like the rod action. Since you're just starting out you should easily find something you need and the selection should look quite large.
  18. I should clarify that when I said MF I meant moderate fast, not medium power/fast action. Power is really subjective to area, but a moderate fast action is the most versatile action there is - not fast action imo
  19. I always refute the claim that the universal best starter bass rod is a 7 foot MH/F. It's not. MF is by far more universal.
  20. The answer to every tough fishing condition is the Ned Rig.
  21. Congrats. Don't worry, the couch can teach you some good life lessons.
  22. I did bend it back upon advise. Looks like some epoxy peeled back with it. Slight crack. Seems very strong still. I'll just clear polish the tiny crack and fish it til I have to drop 10 bucks for a new guide. No big deal.
