  1. This is where I'm at.. and an very satisfied with everything.. the most expensive reel i have is a chronarch mgl that I bought on here second hand for well under MSRP. (Thanks wet_dream).. all the others are $150 and under.. rods are all around $100 and they are light enough and sensitive enough for my fishing skill.. It always makes me laugh when you see pros fishing $150-200 reels on $150-200 rods.. with no complaints! And then the weekend warrior fishing a set up that's worth $700+ with a dozen others on the deck! Don't get me wrong, to each their own.. but it's similar to lures.. most are made to catch fisherman more so than fish.. you can catch just as many fish on a $3 Walmart crank vs a $20 megabass knuckle crank.. It's all part of the hobby though.. I have a jerkbait box full of pointer 100's and vision 110's, but my most used and productive jerkbait is the strike king kvd! But I love those pointers and visions as well! Great point! That's something I just started realizing last year.. line plays one of the most crucial roles,if not the most, in any fishing set up
  2. That's the thing.. I'll spend 150-200 on a reel and it will last me a lot longer than my rods.. I am mostly a bank fisherman so I have a tendency to break tips or eyelets.. I mean in all reality, I use to catch fish with a zebco back when I was a kid and it was still fun! I wish I could afford a $500-600 set up, I just don't see a point in it fishing from a bank or small craft.. I don't know if I could ever justify it even with a bass boat.. but I bet it would sure be nice to use one!
  3. It makes the most sense. I agree. I just never noticed the discrepancy I have from my reels to rods
  4. Alright.. I'm sitting here with nothing but punky ice and blown out Rivers.. needless to say, IM GOING NUTS!! So a question I just thought of.. do you think it's more important to spend more money on your rods or reels? I can really sway both ways on this.. but looking at my setups, my baitcasters are all $130-300 and my rods are all around $100-150.. I think it's easier to spend more on a reel but I'm not sure if it's the right way.. Thoughts??
  5. Awesome! Glad you were able to catch a few fish! Must've felt great. It was 34° today so I found a little stretch of river to fish below a dam.. but they had the hydro plant bypass open so the current was pretty swift, so definitely no fish but nice to get out.
  6. A lot of nice guns gents! I usually always carry a Glock (43or19) wherever I go. One of the perks of living in Vermont! I also have a Walther PPQ that I LOVE but it's just to big to CC so it sits in the cabinet with all my other range pistols.. another great range gun is a century arms canik tp9sf. I got it for $250 new and it shoots as well as my Walthers, Glocks and s&w if not better.. I'd never carry it because it doesn't have the reliability of a Glock
  7. Enjoy it.. if the sun is out I would definitely focus on the rip rap as the sun will tend to warm the rocks up faster and might bring the fish in closer.. definitely a jerkbait, crankbait, I'd also try a little underspin with a finesse swim bait as well..
  8. Welcome mark.. I'm fairly new here myself. You'll learn a lot and everyone here is more very knowledgeable.. Thank you for your service!
  9. Yeah I went ehlher, wheeler, matt Lee, Connell, and Hartman.. I had my hopes up for a bit, but that's how it goes.. This is my first time playing any kind of fantasy thing so idk exactly how it all works.. I just know someone always picks better than I do!
  10. Definitely not thawed up here yet (northern VT) on lake Champlain.. we got over a foot of snow last week.. and it was below zero this morning.. Im not sure if the ice is safe enough to even ice fish anymore.. I haven't been out in two weeks and it's killing me!
  11. That was awesome! Huge props to Jordan Lee.. but I was pulling for Brent ehlher or matt Lee.. tough one for Christie as well.. great derby
  12. I'm in a similar position right now.. I've got a medium cranking rod.. but it's a little light to throw jerkbaits on.. so I'm thinking about going with a MH/mod fast for jerks, blade baits and deeper cranks..
  13. This 6'10" has a 15" handle.. the 6'8" is 13 3/4" I believe
  14. Yeah that's what I was hoping.. they seem to be pretty popular Good point! I am 6'1" so that's always something to think about. Thanks It seems this is an often debated topic.. I have a MH fast that I use for light flipping and a few other things.. I just thought the moderate fast would be a good compromise where I could use for more techniques seeing how I don't often fish out of a boat, so keeping the number of rods down to a minimal is important..
  15. I wish I could get both, but the boss might wish otherwise!! I think I'm going to go with the 6'10".. hopefully the rod is as good as the reviews on tackle warehouse.
  16. Good info. I have honestly never thought to do this.. but, in never doing it I have never had a reel had any problems. Some of mine might go two years in the closet before I use them, so I wouldn't worry to much about it.. None of me reels drags are locked down anyways, so maybe that makes a difference.
  17. Thanks man!! Appreciate it.. no worries, I think I'm leaning towards the 6'10".. but I already have a 6'10"MH/F Shimano exage, so idk if it'd be to redundant to get the 6'10"bucoo.. I mostly fish from the bank right now, so I try not to have to many rods.. I usually only bring 1-2 baitcaster and 1 spinning setup when I go.. so having to many makes it hard to pick which to bring!
  18. I looked at that a while back at Cabela's.. it is a nice rod, but I can't stand the white!! Idk why I can't get over it, haha but man they don't appeal to me! No worries. I appreciate the help.. I am kind of leaning towards the 6'10" but it's only rated for 5/8oz whereas the 6'8" is rated for 3/4oz.. I think a pointer 100 is 5/8oz so idk if it'd be maxing out the 6'10"..
  19. It does sound perfect, except the price!! A little out of my price range.. Maybe some day.. I'm pretty set on one of these two rods.. Does anyone know how they compare in power vs a Shimano? What I mean is, are falcons MH as stiff as Shimano MH?
  20. I just searched around a bit reading old threads, but I just figured I'd ask because it's pretty specific.. I'm looking at the falcon bucoo rod for a jerkbait/top water..(bladed jig and finesse jig??) I am looking for opinions on which one.. 6'8" MH/mod.fast or 6'10" MH/Mod. Fast I throw anything from a pointer 78, vision 110, pointer 100, kvd jerkbaits 200/300.. so basically 3/8oz to 5/8oz.. --.. how much would casting distance differ between these two? --could I also throw bladed jig on this set up? Thanks for any help..
  21. Nice of you to give some very detailed information! I wish I was down at the classic! Matter of fact, I wish I was anywhere with open water at this point in time!!
  22. Nice one! I've scratched the itch but haven't linked up with one yet!
  23. It's a tough life we live up here in the Northeast! But! We are on the downside of this torture!! Another 2-3 weeks and I think (hope) we'll at least be able to catch a few in the Rivers that have opened up.. lake Champlain however is still covered in 12-16" of garbage ice that can't be fished on and refuses to leave! I tried fishing the lamoille river today and had no luck. But it felt good to get out and cast at least.
  24. Very true! Usually I'll get the ones that half ass it and just nip it.. but sometimes those suckers hammer and inhale it, which gets the heart pumping until you feel you line go slack..
  25. Man oh man!! Nice! If I could land something like that I'd be okay with it.. but that's tough to do on 10-12# fluro.. they're usually just big enough to steal my jerkbait!
