  1. Hmm... That might be the best deal every reported on this Forum. Congratulations! 8-)
  2. Congratulations, again. Nice pics, too!
  3. Well, we have 10,000+ members. I have never broken a rod (any brand) on a fish.
  4. Cloudy days give you more options. Nearly every "low light" lure can be fished throughout the day. I'm not a fan of topwater and buzzbaits for example during "bright" hours, but on cloudy days these might work just fine. On the otherhand, "regular" daytime lures can be fished on cloudy days just like you would use them on sunny days. Just more options! It's all good.
  5. There is really no particular reason for not catching some bass during the day, you already know they are there. Just stick with it and throw some soft plastics (Fat Ika, Senko, Micro Munch Tackle El Gordo tube). Maybe work them a little slower or try a moving bait like the Kreature or Senko Swimbait. In low light, I'm pretty confident that the Cavitron Buzzbait will produce a few bass for you, too!

  7. The Extremes are now on sale for $65. hey broke bro where at? These are Bass Pro Shop's inhouse brands: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_59070_100002006_100000000_100002000_100-2-6
  8. Neshoba is the name of the pond. It is the centerpiece of a park at Germantown Parkway and Wolf Creek, behind what used to be the old Wal-Mart. http://www.ci.germantown.tn.us/bikes.html
  9. Welcome aboard! The reason your line is slipping is because it is "slipping" around the spool. You need to start over with a few yards of mono or copolymer to cover the spool and connect the lines with a blood knot. Another way to secure the line to the spool is with a little tape.
  10. Well, on my outing the weight was 3/8 oz, color black and no trailer hook.
  11. smallie951, Man, that's quite a fish! How much did that big momma weigh? Regarding hook-up and landing. I don't know where 40% comes from, but I'm no pro and my hook-up ratio is WAY better than 80% overall. With single hooks I would estimate 95% and once hooked-up, my landing ratio is north of there. (Of course I am talking about bites I detect; can't comment on bites I'm not aware of getting.)
  12. You don't necessarily need to change your line and you DEFINITELY do not want to add a stinger hook (that will just get you hung up). Swimbaits get bumped a lot based on the posts I've seen and my limited experience fishing them. Just keep after it, these baits are not for numbers.
  13. If you buy them direct, either click on their banner or let Bobby Uhrig know you are a BassResource.com member. http://www.megastrike.com/
  14. 3/8 oz, black on black (jig and blade). The Cavitron Buzzbait has a unique "chirping" sound that apparently drives bass crazy, or at least drove my pet bass mad! Lots of guys throw buzzbaits on this pond with little success. The guys I mentioned that were there Sunday never got a strike between them. I believe it had something to do with the lure. :
  15. This thread might belong in "Outings" but it's ALL ABOUT the lure! Most of the time being in the right spot is the key. Sometimes it's a combination of location and presentation, but occasionally it's fishing EXACTLY the right lure. For me, Saturday and Sunday mornings were all about the lure. I arrived at my favorite local pond about an hour before sun-up. Having never fished the Cavitron Buzzbait, I tossed in out towards the middle of the pond to check my settings and get a feel for the lure before approaching a prime target. With a slight reel adjustment, I was set. On my second cast, or first real cast, the bait churned up about eight feet of water and absolutely exploded! Taking heed of a tip from Mattlures regarding "playing" single hook lures, I tried to power this fish to the bank, but she would have none of that. There in the morning twilight, she made her initial jump and my heart jumped into my throat. I landed her a few minutes later to find the hook taken deep. I worked with the lure for a minute or so, then put the fish back in the water for a breather and to gather myself. I brought her back in and methodically located the hook and was able to remove the buzzbait. This might not have been possible if I wasn't able to put my ENTIRE hand inside the mouth of this beast! On four casts, to exactly the same spot, I landed three bass well over 5 lbs. During the next hour and a half or so, I landed two more and a third threw the Cavitron. This was the best largemouth fishing I have ever had, but that's not the end of the story... Sunday morning I'm up and at 'em again. Two guys were throwing another brand of buzzbaits on MY pond, and in MY spot! I watched them for a few minutes and moved on down the bank. I didn't have any initial success, but the fat lady wasn't singing either. As I approached a second culvert on the pond, I cast across the silt hump and moved the lure over a small pool on the near side, my side. The strike was decisive, the battle was on. This turned out to be my big bass of the weekend and she was followed by three more fine fish. Last weekend was all about the CAVITRON BUZZBAIT. If you don't have a couple, get one.
  16. I store some "inventory" (original packaging) in a sleeve within my tackle bag. For "regular" usage, I carry a 3600 Plano box with five sections for soft plastics and one subdived for (1)hooks; (2) weights, swivels and beads. For bank fishing this fits onto a back pouch on my fishing vest. I carry Fat Ika, 6" Senko, Kreatures, tubes and Kut-Tail, unwrapped and ready to go. The Plano plastic box retains freshness, but allows immediate access. This works perfectly for me. The rest of my inventory is kept in original packages in a temperature controlled fishing room off my garage. Some of my baits are probably 10 years old, but just as fresh as anything recently purchased. I don't think soft plastics have a "shelf life" if properly stored.
  17. Great post Joe. S 8-)
  18. After reading all these line items, you're thinking... Well? : 8-)
  19. ;D ;D ;D ;D WOW! ;D ;D ;D ;D 8-)
  20. Reasonable? Generally, 1/2 of retail for "like new" equipment, much less for "used."
  21. Well, I don't keep bass, especially smallmouth, but I think a better program would allow fishermen that want to keep fish to have a slot limit. Keeping smaller fish (12"-15") isn't going to hurt the population and would provide better protection for "trophy bass." As far as tournaments go, I would prefer "paper tournaments" only, but I realized that's just not going to happen.
  22. Yes I have. The bass is "stunted" probably due to overcrowding: too many bass in that particular body of water. More commonly they just have a full grown head and very little body.
  23. ALL STRUCTURE in current has potential: humps, depressions (pools), ledges, ridges, transition, boulders and rock piles. ANYTHING that diverts the water flow.
  24. Your pond. The only water I have ever fished for more than four hours without a bite is the concrete pond in my backyard. Sometimes, at night and after a couple of beers, I think I get a bite there, too. : Find somewhere else to fish.
  25. Well, two weeks ago I had some "illegals" throwing a net on my public pond. Confronted the three of them NICELY to inform them that netting game fish is illegal. They left the area I was fishing, but thirty minutes later were casting their net on the other side of the pond. Tennessee Game & Fish ain't available, but Germantown cops were! Men were arrestested "for cause," but not necessarily for illegal activities. : I say be nice up front, but if that doesn't work call in the calvery!
