WOO-HOO! New BassResource.com members on the way! Congratulations! 8-)
  2. Surprisingly, I have been having some luck with Storm swimbaits.
  3. I can't add much to avid's post, that's some good advice there. 8-) As far as specific lures, I have been having some luck with the Cavitron Buzzbait (black on black, 3/8 oz); GYCB Kreature fished like a spinnerbait (steady retrieve with an occasional twitch); Mattlures Baby Bass and comparable size Sorm swimbaits; 1/2 oz Micro Munch Tackle black & blue jig with a blue Uncle Josh pork trailer and a Norman Fat Boy. With a little change in weather, the fishing at my ponds has picked up.
  4. Not exactly, but below Pickwick the surface temperature is 82 degrees, down 10 from just a couple of weeks ago. The smallmouth fishing will begin to pick-up when temperatures drop below 75. The best fishing is 45-55 degrees (late October through February). I'm still striper fishing. This weekend I'll be below Wilson and will post an update on this thread with exact temperatures.
  5. Gold mine! That's REALLY special. 8-) p.s. A pond that has basically never been fished is most likely overcrowded. I suspect it would be best for you and the pond to keep ALL the small fish.
  6. If it really doesn't matter that much to you whether you land the fish that bite, the jigs are just fine. I would NEVER re-use a "single" hook that has been bent and when it happens on a treble, I will replace that hook as soon as possible. Think about this: You may only get one shot at "The Fish of a Lifetime."
  7. About what? What would you recommend for fishermen that are using their equipment for both freshwater and light saltwater fishing.
  8. C'mon AJ, this a Abu Garcia thread. No alternatives needed. Believe me, you will have plenty of opportunities to "discuss" brands and preferences if you stick around here for awhile. BTW, if I missed welcoming you, Welcome Aboard!
  9. ghoti, No disagreement here with me, those are all good points you have made. "Resource management' is the key to a healthy system.
  10. No, I just have a special regard for them. The is no legal, ecological or ethical question, just a personal perspective. I consider smallmouth my pet fish. I don't have as high regard for green bass, but I don't keep they very often either.
  11. : Well, if everyone would start using the "right" stuff, there wouldn't be a problem! ;D ;D ;D ;D
  12. Excellent points, good post. I think the focus should be on bigger fish, the rare ones not the common gamefish in a healthy environment. Creel limits are designed to promote the species. Still, I just can't bring myself to keeping smallmouth. I admit, I'm bias!
  13. I listed that one first becouse I like the specs on it, but I wasn't sure if it was the real deal. I have one of their Walleye series rods, and I think there is some $$ added onto the rod just becouse it says "Walleye". It's priced in between the IMX's and GL3's, but I don't think it's any better than a GL3. I wasn't sure if the crankbait series was like that too. Everyone that has these rods say they are their favorites, but the graphite composition seems to be "TOP SECRET." The G.Loomis website does not specifically address the question.
  14. Wait and see what ReelMech has to say or send him a PM or e-mail.
  15. Well, you need to work within the suggested parameters of the rod. So, that would mean 1/2 oz lures on the low side, but nearly everything except big swimbaits at the top end. It sounds like EXACTLY what you are looking for.
  16. Me like the CBR847C http://www.fish307.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=4242 8-)
  17. Nice fish. Too bad you kept her, she might have gone five if you caught her again.
  18. ** MODERATOR NOTE ** All right, 7 pages is enough. I have deleted a few posts, no PMs. The conversation has just gone too far down hill. This thread is done. -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior Global Moderator
  19. WOW! That's quite a fish! 8-)
  20. Good point. That applies to everything.
  21. Welcome aboard! Try a Fat Ika: https://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1141053342
  22. Okay, I understand what you are saying, but when the deck is stacked against you, I just think there are better alternatives to look for when choosing a place to fish.
