G Loomis GLX MBR843C vs MBR844C for Senko rod
Man, I hope this thread grows some legs. I just love Loomis guys getting into the nitty-gritty of what they REALLY like about specific rods. I fished an IMX MBR844C for almost six years and liked it...a lot! The cork on the handle came loose and G.Loomis advised me to replace it, not get it fixed. Anyhow, I got a replacement through the Xpeditor program, swapped it out with BPS and paid the difference for the GLX. This was my striper rod, but now I have decided to get another IMX and keep the GLX MBR844C for jigs almost exclusively. As much as I liked the IMX, the GLX kicks it up a notch.

G Loomis GLX MBR843C vs MBR844C for Senko rod
Well, I have the GLX MBR844C, but I don't use it for soft plastics. We'll see what others have to say, but if I were buying a DEDICATED soft plastic rod, I might go with the 843. However, I DO consider the 844 the #1 "all-around" baitcasting rod. If I only had one, this would be it! One more series you need to look at is the BCR854. The Loomis guys, including those that have my MBR, prefer this rod. I don't have one, but I HIGHLY recommend that you look at it, I would if I were buying another new rod.

Hey Texans!
Could have, but we've been running most of the "Fork" talk in General. Plus, this thread is just for fun, a fishing joke...maybe "Everything Else?" You don't really think I'm concerned about catching too many Share Lunkers, do you?

Life Won't Be The Same Anymore!
Too cool! In Tennessee you can buy a lifetime license for newborns. Just a thought if it's available in NC.

Big Industry News!!!
BassChaser57, I haven't asked about any other source, my confidence level in your information is very high. I can hardly wait for additional confirmation. Do you expect that anytime soon? BTW, "First to know" is cool with me! Thanks for the heads-up.

Smallmouth and worms?
In the pictures I saw they looked like pepper; like pepper had been sprinkled all over the filets.

a concern
The Administrator and the Moderators agree. Think before you post. This is a "just for fun and entertainment" FISHING FORUM. (And maybe some helpful information on occasion). There is no reason to be harsh or inconsiderate. That doesn't mean you always need to be politically correct, but we should all try to be courteous to each other.

Does this sound like a good Setup?
Although I am a St. Croix fan, I would HIGHLY discourage anyone from buying a Triumph rod. They are assembled in China and quality control has been a HUGE issue. I find it disturbing that St. Croix would risk their well established reputation by offering this product.

Hey Texans!
Do ya'll know anything about the Texas Department of Natural Resources? I'm fishing with flechero at Lake Fork and although I haven't seen his boat, I suspect his live well is "normal" size. So, I was wondering if we could get the wild life agents to come out on the lake and pick up our Share Lunkers. I doubt if we can hold more than three at a time and I would hate to have to come back to the dock for lunch. Any ideas?

Fishing during dam releases
River fish are effected mostly by current, bait migration, water temperature and the length of days (hours of light). I don't put much stock in moon phases, so I don't follow them closely. My best days for smallmouth were June 5, 6 & 7, 2002; 1/08/05 & 1/15/05. If you can look backwards and determine the moon phase on those days, they would be my favorite.

What is your opinion on this?
Not me. You can read a lengthy discussion on the referenced thread above, but I'm not jumping up on the soap box today. Bed fishing is simply something I don't do.

Why pros don't use live bait?
[There is not much skill in live bait fishing besides finding the bait fish and catching it..The first time I went by myself with this technique two weeks ago a buddy of mine and me caught 25 in 4hours time with the average around 6lbs...] Man, I hate it when that happens!

Jerk Bait Rod and Line
For all treble hooks lures I recommend Moderate Action, Slow Action or Fast Action with a SOFT tip. My "all around " baitcasting rod for a variety of lures, including most jerkbaits, is a St. Croix Avid AC66MF (soft tip). For big baits (Pointer 128) and deep diving lures (DD22), Lamiglas SR705R (glass). For light jerkbaits (X-Rap) and at night, I fish spinning tackle: Fenwick Techna AV AS70MM. On my baitcasting rigs I fish Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #12; on my spinning tackle, mostly Ultra Soft #6.

Smallmouth and worms?
I recently read an article on these worms. As I recall, they are NOT harmful to people if the fish is properly cooked, even though they look disguishing! I think the worms are common in Minnesota and maybe Wisconsin, but not in other parts of the country. I don't think they are particularly harmful to the fish, but maybe someone else can address this issue.

Line Problems?
For spinning equipment: Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #4 (8.5 lb test) & #6 (11.9). For baitcasting gear: Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #12 (19.5 lb test). This fishing line is a bonded (not coated) fluorocarbon/ nylon copolymer. It is highly resistant to abrassion, impervious to water and UV light, has very little memory in use and it floats! I have never been broken off by a fish using this line. Addressing drag settings: Initially I set my drag at 25-30% of breaking strength (within the parameters of the rod rating). You can measure this by putting weights or weighed canned goods in a plastic grocery sack and tie this to your rigged line. Lift it GENTLY with your rod to no more than 75% of the rod's maximum flex. After measuring your setting with actual weight, you will get a "feel" for where the drag should be set for that particular equipment in the future. If you work within these guidelines, you will never break a rod on hook-set or break your line.
