  1. Hey Jerkbate! Back on page 1, I responded that 4 lbs was what I "consider a large crappie." I know they are not "common", but lots of guys fishing down there, around you, catch 4+ crappie. I hope you can post a picture of a 4-11, I'm sure it will surprise a few folks!
  2. ww2farmer, Wow! That was a very well thoughtout post, excellent perspective and filled with very helpful information.
  3. This is the VERY BEST time of year for smallmouth in this region, but the TVA won't give me any water on the weekends. Today they're running 48,000 CFS, Saturday the average is 9,700 and -0- from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. That dog don't hunt!
  4. I attach all line with an Arbor Knot and I do not go through the drilled holes.
  5. T-rigged, weightless and weedless. I fish 6" Senkos on a 4/0 EWG Gamakatsu or X-Point Offset Worm Hook. 3/0 is probably just fine for the 5" bait, but I would still use 4/0.
  6. Man, I sitting in my office in Memphis and the snow is REALLY coming down! It's 22 degess and we already have nearly 1/32" on the cars. If this keeps up we'll have to declare a SNOW EMERGENCY! IKES!
  7. The video was a little slow, but worth the wait! ;D
  8. Baitcaster: Shimano Calais CL200ASV Spinning: Shimano Stella 2500FB
  9. My current line-up: 2 G. Loomis GLX 1 St. Croix Legend Elite 2 St. Croix Avid 1 Fenwick Techna AV 1 Lamiglas Going forward, I plan to purchase G.Loomis exclusively.
  10. greener280, Welcome aboard! Just look through this section. There are at least a couple of hundred threads on "best reels." I think you will see that nearly everyone has a "favorite." Specify a price range and you will get several suggestions.
  11. Well, The State of Wahington is kinda considered "leftcoast", but it's still part of America. As a matter-of-fact, our Administator (Glenn) is from there...
  12. I have been fooling aroud with that knot, too. Yep, I like it and it's pretty!
  13. Exactly my point: Some LC lures are on sale all of the time. Just be patient.
  14. I wish that someone could make me a lizard that actually resembled the colors of a real lizard, something like the fence lizard which is very common across the nation: http://www.herpsofnc.org/herps_of_NC/lizards/Sceund4.jpg (that's what the mating colors look like in the spring time and http://www.herpsofnc.org/herps_of_NC/lizards/Sceund6.jpg (that's what they usually look like) I think the fish in clearer water would really go for something that actually looked like the real thing rather than just some general color. The green with white belly looks EXACTLY like a real salamander (lizard).
  15. I follow the guidelines on setting my drag: 25-30% of actual braking strength. I have never been broken off by a fish using Yo-Zuri Hybrid or Hybrid Ultra Soft. I used the #10 for awhile, but when you get a backlash it is harder to work with and the kinks that are created appear to effect the physical integrity of the line. This still occurs with#12, but to a lesser extent. That is the main reason I use #12 and the fact that it has a higher breaking strength.
  16. Well guys, I (we) REALLY appreciate your professional, real world perspectives. All of your comments and criticisms are always on spot and I sincerely hope that those of you that are "in the business" stay in the game. (Especially JT, Craig, Matt, Squid and others). However, this section is no different than any other category on the Forum in terms of questions and answers. New members ask the same questions over and over again because they are...well...new! So, "What's the best reel?"
  17. C'mon! This thread showcases presents received and they are certainly very nice gifts.
  18. I use Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #12 exclusively.
  19. The only time I do not use a Palomar Knot is when tying big treble hooks lures and that is only because they are cumbersome. I do not recall this knot ever failing.
  20. I don't know what the story is, but I suspect in comes out sooner or later. My guess is that BPS and Shimano are having a business dispute. I'm pretty sure there is more to the mystery than meets the eye. We'll see.
  21. Roses are red and rats are gray Your're a big fat toad, but I love you anyway I'm still workin' on it...
  22. roadwarrior replied to skillet's topic in Fishing Tackle
I'm pretty much in agreement with Roger. I fish the original Slug-Go, weightless. The erratic movement looks exactly like a feeding minnow.
  23. I resemble that remark!
  24. And there you have it! I'm not thumping for anyone to change their fishing style. I like "catchin'" better than "fishin'", that's all. Sometimes live bait is the ticket, it's "what's for dinner!"
