  1. Yeah, I work nights and 4 days a week so I'm usually out when everyone else is at work. It's much less stressful.
  2. There's enough room out there to get away from the crowds and it can be beneficial also. Before I bought my boat last fall I had some shore fishing spots that would out produce some of the popular spots where you had to play "bumper boats".
  3. Supposed to be in the 50s by the end of the week around here. Not that it'll help much.
  4. I recently had a Marcum camera which is similar. I primarily used it ice fishing but took it in the boat a few times when I first got it. Either one, aquavu or Marcum have great pictures. They really do give you a good underwater view and kids LOVE watching fish on them. You won't go wrong with either brand. They do take up space and they do take time to set up and time away from fishing which is why I sold mine. Also they only work well in clear to semi clear water. I think they are great for kids but just wanted to add a couple things to consider before you buy.
  5. I'm getting my boat in two weeks and I've been reading up on Pool 4 and plan to hit it a few time this year. I've heard only a couple of the ramps are open and there are a lot of icebergs floating around. I like Big Marine. Haven't fished it for bass in awhile as others have said, it has quite a lot of small bass. But the crappies are THICK in the early Spring.
  6. I love ice fishing but once February hits I just want to be on the boat. Thank god for the Mississippi which has some open water pockets throughout the Winter so I've been able to scratch the itch with some smallmouth shore fishing trips.
  7. Even though it's close, I still like open water fishing better than ice fishing.
  8. I think I'm set on the 7'3" Mag Heavy.
  9. Everyone is picking Ashley so I figure if I have someone who finished above him it's going to be a huge gain in points. I have also been thinking he could have a huge finish given the possible weather and time of year.
  10. Well who's everybody picking other than Casey Ashley for the Classic? I took BMP, Defoe, Howell, Connell, and Hartman. I think it'll give me another solid finish.
  11. Time of year, weather, water temp, windy or calm? If windy which part of the lake is the wind blowing into, where were the fish last time I was in these weather conditions. Cloudy or sunny? Clear or stained water? The list goes on and on...... Would probably be a better fisherman if I could shut that off once in awhile.
  12. Ned Rig (although have the gear and will be using it some this year), Carolina rig, A-rig (not legal in MN unless only one of the swimbaits has a hook I believe), and big swimbaits. I think I may buy a couple medium sized swimbaits and give them a try this year just to see what will hit it up here.
  13. I'm going to buy a Dobyns Fury and will be using it mainly for pitching heavy cover. Right now I'm looking at the heavy model but I was also thinking I may use it for jigging deep structure as well. Would the heavy have a sensitive enough tip for that or should I just use another rod and make the Dobyns Heavy for pitching only?
  14. Heddon Super Spook all day long.
  15. Apparently 31, since last summer is when I bought my first boat....
  16. I'll be fishing the Sunday league. Will be my first year. Pretty excited for it! I just fished the Mississippi last weekend and pulled out 7 smallies in about 3 hours from the bank. Such a great fishery.
  17. I don't know if I've seen a bigger one. I haven't seen many but that's a long and fat one.
  18. 2 ft of snow and 2 ft of ice. We do have one stretch of the Mississippi that is open and kicking out smallies though. Scratched my itch there last weekend.
  19. I might be way off here but I would think MLF would affect a fishery much less than a regular FLW or Elite Series because they are catching fish and releasing them right then and there as opposed to bringing them in for a weigh-in.
  20. I really like the Spro Bronzeye line. Both regular and popping. Have never had one rip or have the hooks come out. I pretty much use Strike King lures and the Spro frog out fishes the SK Sexy Frogs and they walk better. I've never used Live Target frogs but my fishing partner loves them. I have a hard time spending an extra couple $$ on a paint job on the top of a topwater bait......
  21. KVD Jerks are one of my go to baits. I feel it has the most erratic action out of the many I've tried.
  22. I'm on the XD bandwagon. You can get them to dive deeper by going lighter with your line if you can swing it.
  23. It'd be nice to get money back from uncle Sam....Been 3 years of paying in on tax season.
  24. A-Mart was killing me. I love that guy. Using two rods to land fish at the same time, giving Ehrler crap while A-Mart was catching fish right in front of him. That guy can fish and he has so much fun doing it.
  25. Sexy Shad, Bluegill and my favorite the Chartreuse Black Back Bluegill have purple on them many times of the year and any time you can get some purple on a lure it is a good thing in the lakes I fish.
