  1. Was just thinking about this topic again and realized one of my biggest complaints is that neither sells any apparel from tackle/rod and reel companies. It's all BPS or Cabelas brands except for UA, North Face and Huk. Anyone know if they have a contractual thing where they can't carry that stuff? Would think they could sell an awful lot of shirts and hats from companies like Shimano, Daiwa, G. Loomis, Abu etc.
  2. Dropshotting is pretty big up here in our clear lakes. I'm just OK at it as I'm more of a power fishing type and my patience with it doesn't last too long, although there are times where it is deadly. This is a technique where the fish generally need to see the bait. Like others have said there are exceptions to all rules. I know some really like using small paddle tail baits because it displaces more water which could help in less visibility.
  3. I'm in! Had a pretty good run last year until the end.....Can't wait for the season to start!
  4. Bassresource for sure, Lake Fork Guy, Mark Zona's channel has some good stuff on it now and then, Same with Iaconelli. Brandon Palaniuk is making a concerted effort to get big on YouTube and had a really cool half hour video recapping each of his Elite Series events.
  5. Welcome to the site! Bass fishing comes first but you gotta go after some other species too! It's too much fun. I don't think I could go a summer without catfishing or sturgeon fishing here and there!
  6. I appreciate the suggestion but for $400 I could buy the same unit practically brand new. No way am I paying a $395 minimum for a cracked screen. I'll go to them if I ever get a $2500 unit and drop that one!
  7. Like an idiot I dropped my Garmin EchoMap 70 and cracked the screen. The picture and pixels are perfectly fine, just the screen is cracked. I talked to Garmin and they keep offering me a refurbished unit as a replacement for like $300. I'm wondering if anyone knows ways of replacing screens. The unit isn't under warranty anymore and I'm willing to pay for repairs, just not $300 for a refurbished unit.
  8. I've been pretty aggravated every time I go there here in MN as well. They cater to Rapala company lures and never have the lures I'm looking for. Their rod selection is one of the worst I've ever seen. If it isn't a St Croix or cabelas rod they don't have it.
  9. Yep. You can learn a lot from watching raw footage from those MLF events when you can find them.
  10. Single digit highs this week and I'll be out fishing.....Have to do something!
  11. It would have to be Mille Lacs here in MN. Trophy smallmouth, walleye, northern pike, and Muskie. Plus I could still get my ice fishing in in the Winter. So many great fishing opportunities in that lake.
  12. I will be on the ice on Mille Lacs Sunday, targeting trophy walleye and pike. Super Bowl is a bit tender for most of us here in MN.
  13. I'm also on the PowerPro yellow. You can see it very easily even with the lighter lines. Tie a fluoro leader to it and you're good to go!
  14. Welcome from just south of you.
  15. KVD 2.5 Squarebill. Chartreuse black back. 4.5 lber was the biggest I got last season.
  16. Largemouth and smallmouth take that long up here in the north. That's why our state record largemouth is only 8 lbs and change.
  17. Whichever has the faster inches per turn of the reel.
  18. I don't know anything about Kastking other than that crazy Philly Fishing youtube guy uses them. After looking at them I would think the Assassin would be a little more versatile being a 6.3.1. However if you are a finesse guy or do a lot of punching, flipping, or pitching, the 9.3.1 of the Speed Demon might be what you want. Let us know what you think of whichever one you purchase.
  19. I keep them in a compartment in my boat, but keep them in the original bags and put them in gallon ziplocs with labels. Separate them into bags of worms, swimbaits, dropshot plastics, creature baits and tubes.
  20. Uncut footage from an MLF event of KVD. I saw this on Youtube a few weeks ago and watched the whole thing and thought it was incredible to watch him progress through 2.5 hours of fishing without any edits. have to turn the volume way up to hear him but I thought it was really informative and fun to watch. KVD Uncut
  21. KVD 1.5 and 2.5 in either sexy shad or chartreuse black back (they come in a lot of great colors). Here in MN running them through the tops of weedlines/beds is deadly. Haven't found a reason to try any other brands honestly.
  22. Closest I've been to a bass in 3 months!
  23. Glad to see some other MN'ers here. We can't all be in love with walleye! I bought a used '99 Nitro 700LX. Nothing special but it's in great shape and has a Mercury 125 and is in amazing condition for it's age.
  24. I was using the double uni last season but had it fail on a few hooksets. Whether it's my skills or the knot I don't know but I may have to try some of the others out after my frustrations with it last year.
