Major Boat Fail By A Pro (Aaron Britt)- video back up
Wouldn't it be extremely easy to create a smartphone app that uses GPS to track speed? That seems like it'd be a simple way to enforce said limits that wouldn't really cost anything and could be applied to small tournaments. And if you turn it off and back on when you're on the other side of the lake there would be a penalty. It's one thing if you drive reckless when you're on your own time, but a tournament rewards those who push the limits and incentivizes driving as fast as possible.

Overfishing
See below. Unfortunately just trying to help can endanger yourself even if you're friendly and good-intentioned.

Too early for lipless?
Lipless are good ice fishing baits even when you can only jig them straight up and down.

M or ML st croix
I use one 7' ML and one 6'6" M st croix. I would go with the ML. For me they both can handle 1/4 oz very well but the choice depends on which side of that you'll be on most. 1/4 oz and below? ML 1/4 oz and above? M And I'm typically using 1/4 jigheads with a small plastic, so if youre using a 1/8 oz head I'd go ML for sure.

Future of fish finder technology
Not arguing. Some good discussion going on. Breaking the law is breaking the law, but the laws need to keep up with the technology. An example is drones are becoming affordable for the average person and easy to operate, so the laws are a bit behind and working to catch up. We never needed privacy laws about spying on neighbors with drones until drones were invented.

Future of fish finder technology
That's the entire point of this post. Im asking the question: In the future will certain technology get so good that it needs to be made illegal since it gives too much of an advantage (a la shining)? At some point spotlights were invented and somebody decided they shouldn't be used for hunting, what future tech will prompt the same decision to be made in regards to fishing? I have no problem with current tech but the 360 and livescope type stuff is starting to creep a bit too far for my liking. Bag limits are critical too, but there are peole who will not follow them.

Future of fish finder technology
Oops, very similar discussion. I haven't been active on here for a few months (lakes iced over). Edit: This post was intended to discuss the ethics of such improvements to technology, not just discussing what advancements would be made. 90% of lakes i fish are natural with native populations of bass. Because fish are a natural resource that are shared by the people. What other people do absolutely effects my experience if poachers use high tech to wipe out the crappie that I'd like to catch. Similarly, if somebody was shining deer at night and killing big bucks where I hunt Id be angry about that too.

Future of fish finder technology
With the constant upgrades in fish finder and electronics technology, what's your thoughts on where things are headed long term? The tech is only improving and I'm thinking at some point it will be get too good. Imagine at some point your humminbird links with your sunglasses to allow you to see the fish as you cast to them, it turns fishing in 20' of murky water into bed fishing. You can't hunt deer at night with a drone and infrared camera, so there's got to be a stopping point right? At some point you have too big of advantage over the fish that it could become unsporting. Im thinking any future regs would have to be applied before the tech takes hold in tournament fishing. There are plenty of arguments that make decent points now, but may become irrelevant when the tech improves enough. "Still have to get them to bite" and you still have to shoot deer when you shine them at night. Doesnt mean that at some point electronics won't too much of a competitive advantage over the game. "Still have to know how to use it" and eventually the skill it takes to understand what youre seeing and getting the settings right will be eliminated entirely when they mke it user friendly enough. "Costs too much for the average fisherman" like anything give it time and it will become affordable to the average person. "Regulations will be adjusted" probably and this will be necessary but it wont change the fact that for species that people like to eat, like panfish and walleye, a poacher could take half the fish out of your local fishing spot while everyone else plays by the rules. "Im better without it" maybe you are but plenty of people know how to use it. Muzzleloaders aren't better than modern guns even if somebody prefers them.

Underwhelmed by contour intervals on map
Go to the Humminbird Lakemaster website for the chip you got. There will be a lake list and it will tell you what kind of map they have. In my case most of the popular lakes in WI have 1' contours, but not many of the smaller ones. The recent version has a lake I wanted in 1' while the chip I got in 2016 only had 5' contours. You can autochart and create your own ore accurate map if you've got the feature. I tested it out a bit this fall and really liked it. Although you're probably going to need a blank SD card to store the map on if you want to do a whole lake since the storage in unit (Helix 9 for me) was limited. Wisconsin lake list has a legend in the top right: https://humminbird.johnsonoutdoors.com/sites/johnsonoutdoors-store/files/assets/misc/HU/H/HUM_productmanual_600025-7_ll_wi1/HUM_productmanual_600025-7_ll_wi1.pdf

Damage from tournaments
You can't convince me keeping spawning fish in a livewell all day and transporting them miles across the lake has zero effect on the health of the overall population. That part of tournaments has never made sense to me except that you had to weigh in before the invention of digital cameras and handheld scales. Catch and release is the simple solution. Just because a lake has good fishing with tournaments doesn't mean it wouldn't be even better with C&R.

60hp or 75hp, that is the question.
Love my 4 stroke Merc 60, no maintence issues and with the small lakes I fish it only needs gas a few times the entire summer. Also love my new 2020 Hemi 5.7 ?. OP test whatever you plan to get and spend your money how you want.

60hp or 75hp, that is the question.
At the end of the day, adding cylinders and horsepower is never going to get you better fuel efficiency. It's easy for everyone to spend other people's money and say max it out. If you're happy with less than the max HP, that money can go towards anything else like better electronics which may actually help you catch more fish. The additional resale is not worth it because you're getting hit with even more depreciation on the higher original purchase price. You'll do better saving the extra money and keeping it under your mattress until you sell, let alone using it on something else youll enjoy.

How to spool 4lb braid on bait finesse reel(HELP)
You must be only putting on the minimum length you need for casting? Then your reasoning makes sense. I was going to ask why you wouldnt fill the spool if you could fit more with a lighter line. If you spent 3 hours messing with 4lb maybe it's time to try 6lb and see how that goes. If youre not satisfied with casting then go back and spend 4 hours?

Walleye Replica Arrived for Christmas
Looks great. I'm on Fittante's waiting list! It was the only choice after seeing your smallmouth.

Triumph or HMG?
FYI Triumph, Bass X, and Premier are all the same SCII graphite. Triumph and Bass X are made in Mexico, Premier is made in US which likely accounts for most of the price difference. Ive got a triumph 6'6" M/F and a premier 7'0" ML/F. I like both. Also enjoy legend tournaments and avids. The triumph is fine but I'm looking to upgrade to an Avid at some point.

Reel for Wiggle Warts, RK Crawlers, etc
Shouldn't need anything special. I was using a 6.3 Lews tourney MB and switched to the 5.1 with the bigger handle. Those cranks dont pull too hard so you dont necessarily need a deep crank reel. Make sure youre rod is dialed in as well to get the best casting performance.

I need some insight
Yes, I wouldn't use a 30-06 for squirrel hunting. Choose the appropriate tool for the task. Not saying a L power is right, but "finesse" is the way to go in wide open clear water. Set the drag right and you'll be fine.

My freezing hands
I still haven't found the best gloves for fishing. Seems like some that might start well end up getting wet and then are even worse than no gloves. I end up bringing a few different options and trying themall as they get wet. I recently found Orvis (not cheap) has 4 different glove options for different fingerless/mitt convertible options so I may try them out. I like the ones with only the thumb and first two fingers cutoff.

Fishing with a pro.
I don't follow pro fishing too closely, but I'd go with 1. Feider or 2. Swindle.

Who do you eat ?
Crappie, walleye, pike, perch, bluegill and brown trout. I've had smallmouth before and it was great too.

Cheap Cranking Rod
Love my St Croix 7' MH/M graphite rod for 3/8 to 1/2 oz cranks that dive 5-10'. I've fished a lipless on it too which was nice but most of the time i like to have a lipless and diver tied on so i dont do it that often. I fish 30lb braid to a 10 lb mono leader so i can feel if ive fouled the bait in weeds even at the end of the cast. Keeps fish on well enough.
