So I see that Cabela’s has a hydro wave on sale 40$ off just wondering if anyone has one and what they think of it . It’s the cheaper model regular 100$ not the 400$ one.

I agree with Lonnie and Russ. I have a Garmin 7” with Quickdraw,sideview,downview,chirp and panoptix.forgetting the panoptix sideview is great for finding structures rocks,weeds,stumps,tree piles. And once found marked on the map. I have made two of my own maps on lakes that weren’t in my preloaded and it has helped me so much with eliminating bad spots. Also @ 7” I wish I had a 9 or even 12” because when I’m in side scan I can’t split screen I need the whole screen so I don’t miss anything. And a little tip on side scan the sonar shadows really help identify what you’re looking at. Just keep looking you should be able to find @ least a 7” screen with it all for 350-400$

Anybody know of a bass club or open tournaments in NW Iowa I was in the okoboji open last year and had fun so looking for more opportunities to compete

I’m tired of catching panfish so I’m going to start targeting smallies any ideas on what to use

I focused on the warmest spots I could find but only got smaller fish and not many of them ya I get plenty of perch and eyes but I was thinking about targeting bass now to help me during may

I think it was a long winter but probably not I’m really not sure. I normally don’t get over there with the boat till late May April is my bussy time of year getting back to work and have to get the crews going so I’m not sure when the ice clears out

This is not bass fishing story but I went with a coworker to a catfish tournament once.I paid 50$ To enter he had a 18’ flat bottom with 40hp I had a 12’ v Hull with a 6hp so of course we took his. It was an all night thing 7 to7 cold and rainy but the worst part is this guy had no rod holers no depth finder and no anchor how do you catfish without that? Well you drive the boat right up on the bank and hold one rod and sit there and curse and think to yourself I have a way better setup at home just less room and speed not that we needed the speed we never went more then a mile from the ramp he brought every kind of bait chubs gills salamander frogs probably 50$ I brought worms from my yard and caught the only fish 5lb channel lol

I’ve got to chime in on this. I have four fishing jerseys and I were them a lot.but I don’t tournament fish except once a year.I do it because I like the products or they look good.I have 2 shimono my favorite jerseys but I don’t have any of their gear they just look good keep me cool and dry. I also dress in golf shirts but I’m 13 handicap for me it’s comfort. I would gladly pay for a replica of the MLF jerseys just like I do for football and I barley watch football anymore that’s just my 2cents though.

Ya mlf rules ever since I first saw it that’s the way me and my friends compete I love the penalties 2 minutes is a killer when you’re buddies are pulling fish from where you just got penalized their are even walleye tournaments switching to that format

Yup it’s all about fishing what’s in front of you When I’m in my kayak I will fish one spot everything I have before I move on when I’m in my ranger it’s to easy to shoot across the lake instead of trying something else or just move 30 yards I constantly have to tell myself that

I get that you’re on a budget but when it comes to electronics don’t skimp I did when I started and realize that I should have just kept saving I started with a Garmin eco 110.00 for 2 years then striker4 then striker4 down view now ecomap7 and if I just saved I could of had a great unit 4 years ago or a monster setup now truthfully those cheaper units didn’t help me much and my 7” screen is to small to split side scan and panoptix but now with side scan maps and panoptix I do way better side scan is very important otherwise you’re just seeing a small area under your boat and are missing any structure to the port and starboard and the maps in most units mark rocks and vegetation and more so my advice is save up and do it right the 1st time what’s another year or get a loan credit card payment plan Cabela’s cards hav good interest but spend more than 300 you will be glad you did the bass pro spring classic has some good units in th 500 range and no matter what you get cheap or top notch it takes time on the water to learn how to get the most out of them

I have a minn Kota edge 45 what I did and will probably do again is make a mount on the trolling motor so I can point the panoptix anywhere by hand and not just where the motor is pointing that way I can point it at the bank I’m trolling parallel to

Go BIG I have a 7” screen and wish it was 20” side scan needs a bigger screen unless you have eagle eyes bigger is better

Hello I live in Northwest Iowa I will be fishing in the Okoboji open May 5 this will be my second year last year we only had about a week of open water before the tournament normally I fish docks and weeds and do very well but last year in the tournament The docks weren’t in the weeds haven’t grown up yet and I could not find any bass I have no idea where bass go during the winter under the ice so I have no idea where to go to find them after the water opens up Okoboji is not a reservoir but it’s deep 110’ in spots with rocky points sandy/muddy flats mostly in 20+ ft it’s got some shallow canals and lots of Bass smallies and large mouth last year the biggest was 7+lbs and winning teams had 5 fish limits in the 20+ lb range it is an awesome spot I catch 4&5 pounders in the summer but only got one 3lb during the tournament im not trying to win but I would like to finish better this year the water was 40 serface temp I know I have to fish slowly but I don’t know where to go how deep do bass go should I be in 20-40-60-100’ ?suspended on the bottom? The main lake or smaller off shoots ? I should explain that Okoboji is a series of lakes connected west Okoboji is the largest And deepest with large bays East Okoboji is fairly large but only about 20 feet deep no reel bays then their are 3 smaller lakes about 8’ during the summer I can dock fish all day but no idea what to do without them Please help
