  1. I use a long leader (probably around 6 feet or so) attached to braid all the time and my guides are still fine. sometimes though when casting the knot passing through the guides can get kind of annoying but after i switched to using a fg knot i hardly even notice the connection knot.
  2. If your fishing with the reel that came with the ugly stik i would get a new reel. Do you have any steelhead in your local rivers?
  3. I geuss that no fish is smart but i do find that salmon steelhead and carp spook a lot easier than bass do, making them seem smarter. They also seem to learn quicker than bass. I have had some bass bite, get hooked and landed on the same bait multiple times, however when i hook a salmon or steelhead on a lure or a fly and they get off they purposely avoid that fly or lure i hooked them on
  4. im not sure about trout because i dont fish for them much but I know that salmon and steelhead(which i geuss is actually technically a rainbow trout) are a lot "smarter" than bass. They're a lot more line shy/wary and are more picky than bass. A lot of people will probably disagree but i actually find carp to be pretty smart as well(unless if they live in a neighborhood pond and get fed bread everyday). In my opinion carp are almost harder to catch than steelhead(or on a fly rod at least) because of how easily spooked they are
  5. bass can be tricky to catch at times but I find that they are usually pretty dumb and can bite the same bait multiple times. Compared to some other fish they are a lot easier to catch
  6. caught an ipad last year. I was just dragging a worm on the bottom and somehow hooked the screen
  7. HKBasser started following The Short Fisherman
  8. i bike to the majority of my fishing spots since i don't have a car yet
  9. I always use a trailer on a jig, usually use a trailer for a chatter bait, and use trailer hooks for spinnerbaits and buzzbaits
  10. I used to watch a few of their videos, but not anymore. In a lot of their newer videos they only catch a few fish, and the rest is filled with them talking about their sponsors and their baits.
  11. i throw a 3/8 ounce strike king pro model jig from the shore
  12. I bought a daiwa laguna spinning rod yestarday and after fishing with it today i noticed some of the paint started falling off, and i can see the graphite. Will this affect the rods performance? It has warranty but i don't want to send it in if it doesn't affect the way the rod performs. Also I was thinking of coating the chipped parts with some clear nail polish to prevent it from peeling off even more, does anyone know if this will work? thanks
  13. try using a 1/16 oz jighead and put on a small plastic that imitates a minnow, like as twister tail or a crappie bait. You can catch both bluegill and bass
  14. im pretty sure different zman baits have different amounts of salt
  15. i used a red hook for dropshotting once because it was the first hook i found in my tackle box, and for some reason i caught more fish. I'm not sure if it had something to do with the red hook or not
