  1. I'd say a med/hvy x fast action for baitcasting. Med/ fast action for smaller plastics on spinning rods.
  2. Good post Tom. Thank you!
  3. They were kind of one of the early swimbait type lures. The versatility of them makes it worthwhile to have some. My wife bought a lure at Wal Mart the other night made by Creme. It's called a spoiler shad, and is a spinnerbait. Looks a lot like the Sassy Shad
  4. They should work. Mr. Twister still makes some good stuff
  5. What species are you going after? The 2" or 3" sassy shad will catch almost everything.
  6. I never worry about a small deformation on plastics, especially plastic worms. One of my favourites is the Zoom finesse worm, in purple or junebug. The bass seem to like em better after they've been bit a few times, and are ragged looking anyway. In a past thread, lo n slo called them " the old warriors". The ragged beat up worms work well.
  7. I would take some. I havnt used them for a while, but caught fish on them in the past. I rigged them on a 1/8 or 1/4 oz ball head jig, and used a slow steady reeling, or jigged also. You could also throw in a few jig spinners. They make a good downsize spinnerbait too
  8. When I first joined BR, one of my early post was called" Becoming A Trashman". I mainly described how my grandson and I carried a couple of trash bags and picked up what we could. We still do it. It's a constant thing, and some folks will never understand. Fishing is a privledge. By helping clean up, you can at least know that you tried to do your part to help out. Myself and an older friend I fish with confronted two guys who pulled up and threw two bags of trash on the ground in front of the dumpster. My friend Mike walked over and said, " pick it up". They looked upset, but did throw it in the dumpster. Mike is a big guy, and even though he's 71 now, he can still hold his own. But, the bad thing is with confronting people, you never know what can escalate these days. Probably best to get a plate number, and call the police or Conservation agent. Far too many stupid, trigger happy punks out there these days....

For members here who remember the Leave It To Beaver TV show, I just read the news that actor Ken Osmond has passed away at 76 yrs old. He played the role of Eddie Haskell, the cocky, smart alek. Originally, he was only supposed to do one episode of the show, but the producers liked him so much he ended up doing 97 episodes. He later worked as a LAPD motorcycle ploiceman, and was shot 5 times in pursuit of a car thief. I watched a lot of episodes of this show as a kid, and always felt that Eddie Haskell made the show. RIP Ken Osmond
  10. Fenwick HMG 6ft med/fast action. Shimano Sahara 2500 reel. Older Lews Speed Stick, graphite Tennessee handle, 2500 Shimano Sedona reel. 6 or 8lb mono line on both.

Catt, my wife's family owned a small cafe for 30yrs. About 2 or 3 yrs before they closed, they hired a woman from.Louisiana to cook. She made gumbo, and it became popular with folks around here. Lots of people came in just for the gumbo. That, and fried chicken dinners on Sun afternoon. Folks came for fried chicken after church. She talked my mother in law into serving hot boiled shrimp on Friday nights, and the place was packed. Most places around here only serve deep fried shrimp, but I still think hot boiled shrimp is the best. Hot boiled , spiced shrimp and dirty rice is a treat around these parts.
  12. Here in Missouri, some guys use a worm blower. A small plastic bottle with a needle on one end. Hook a big crawler once or twice and give him a small shot of air. Use a split shot 12" to 18" above the bait. The worm will float up off the bottom and wave around. Most fish can't resist it

Catt, I think cast iron is still the best for most cooking. I have a small collection of skillets, pot, and a Dutch oven. It retains the heat, when it reaches the right temperature. When I cook at home, that's mostly what I use.

I was able to make a homemade pecan pie at Thanksgiving. It was the first one I ever made, and turned out good. It's always been my favourite pie

I can do either one, but I think hocks may be a little better, at least for me.

Grits are something that are really good also. We make them.at home, sometimes for breakfast with a little maple syrup or just butter. Looks good! We've got some real chefs around here.

Well, at 62, it kind of pays to keep a few Rolaids handy. I like hot sauce on stuff too. My favourite is Zatarains Cajun hot sauce. It's not too hot, but seems just right. I especially like a few shots on some fried crappie fillets.

I'm with you guys on the hocks and beans, especially in colder weather. With some cornbread too. Hard to beat!

I do think it's a good idea for people to learn to cook, at least some things.Too many folks living on TV dinners and fast food these days
  21. I think lots of folks underestimate how hard it can be at times, especially on a big exterior job.

A Jay, do they have good food in the military? I'd imagine there would be a lot of grumbling going on with bad chow?
  23. Those first jig fish are special for most of us. It's like your first fish on a t rig. You feel.like you've accomplished something, and taken your fishing to a new level.

Before I got married, a friend got his first apartment. I stopped by one night, and he had made macaroni and cheese. He boiled the noodles, then dumped the dry cheese on top. No butter, milk, or mixing it up. He didn't know any better.I told him to mix it up per the directions. He said" Oh, that's how my mom used to make it. No wonder it didn't taste right".??
  25. If you can find and see the nest, put some gasoline in a jar and throw it on them. It kills em right away.
