  1. Right. Why spend $80 when you could spend $160? ? And yeah, I'm kind of leaning towards the medium light now. I'm planning on using it with pretty light line, so...
  2. About to buy a Shimano Clarus for all around finesse fishing. The main techniques I plan on using are dropshots, ned rigs, and shaky heads. Should I go with a medium light, or medium power? Also, would a fast, or medium action be better?
  3. Are you fishing soft plastics? If so, then this will apply: If you feel a tap, set the hook hard. Eventually you'll learn the difference between the tap of a rock and the tap of a bass eating your lure, but for now, just set the hook. Otherwise you'll be missing a lot of fish, and gut-hooking some. The classic bite is just one or two taps. When that happens, quickly reel down until the line is almost tight, and set the hook hard. I hook around 80% to 90% of the bass that bite doing that. As for bluegill hitting the lure, I think it's unlikely. I once found a school of around 50 bluegill just sitting under a dock right off the bank. Out of curiosity, I dropped a T-rig Finesse worm right into the middle and not one would bite it. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask me.
  4. Thanks. I think I'll go with the braid/flouro leader combination.
  5. Thanks. That was really informative.
  6. Should be at walmart. While you're there I would definitely pick up some zoom lizards. Trust me, they work.
  7. Here's one: https://www.google.com/search?q=mepps+aglia&safe=active&rlz=1CAASUE_enUS766US766&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiKwqbaysTbAhVhmK0KHQZFBCcQ_AUICygC&biw=1536&bih=773#imgrc=r7usfiAybSJP1M:
  8. Mepps Aglia spinner.
  9. Try a 4 or 5 inch zoom lizard t-rigged with a 3/16 ounce bullet weight. I fished for months without catching any bass, then decided to try that out one day because, well, I dunno. I'm now catching a bass almost every day using just that. Just cast it around some kind of cover, hop it off the bottom, wait, repeat. I know it sounds stupid but it just works.
  10. Yeah, thanks. It's hard for me to imagine straightening a hook since I'm used to fishing 4/0 flipping hooks, but I'm sure it could happen with a little treble...
  11. Leaving for Florida in two days. I'm planning on using shrimp around 80% of the time, and lures the rest of the time. So my question is, can you use treble hooks designed for freshwater, such as the trebles on a crankbait, jerkbait, spook, etc. in the surf? Should I replace them after I leave, or is that unnecessary?
  12. Congrats! I'm yet to catch a bass on a frog, even after fishing it for nearly 10 total hours...
  13. That's good to know. I'm leaning towards just using straight flouro now, but I can't decide. I'll have to research it a bit. Also, I'll definitely try to follow the tips in that video. Thanks for your help.
  14. But what do you do if you catch the world record bass while you're "working out"? ?
  15. That's interesting. I actually watched that video last night and it was really useful. Also, if all of the things in this video are done perfectly, will it just reduce the amount of line twist, or completely eliminate it? I heard from someone on here that just turning a spinning reel handle twists the line due to the design of the reel. Is that true? Also, thanks for your reply.
  16. Yeah, I've decided to go with braid/flouro leader. I learned how to fish using flouro and braid and just can't stand the lack of sensitivity in mono.
  17. Just bought a Pflueger President XT. About to buy a Shimano Clarus... Oh, and some ned rigs.
  18. That's exactly what happened to me last time I used a spinning rod. ?
  19. I just bought a Pflueger President XT. I haven't gotten to use it yet, but it feels really smooth. I believe it's saltwater approved.
  20. My entire arsenal is one baitcaster, although when I get home from the beach I'm buying my first spinning combo. Shimano Clarus + Pflueger President XT.

I pretty much just fish colors that I like. (watermelon/red flake, black/blue flake, etc.) I don't really think it matters to the fish very much. Never noticed any difference in my catch rate.
  22. Haha, I definitely can tell a difference in the sensitivity of mono, but I still use it most of the time.
  23. "He will surely post here." Does that mean...?
  24. One more question for anyone who knows the answer... Would using this hook for dropshots rather than a standard dropshot hook prevent line twist? https://www.cabelas.com/product/VMC-reg-Spinshot-Drop-Shot-Hook/1307365.uts?productVariantId=3603890&WT.tsrc=PPC&WT.mc_id=GoogleProductAds&WT.z_mc_id1=03748132&rid=20&ds_rl=1252079&gclid=CjwKCAjw6djYBRB8EiwAoAF6oaXrMGdGFq-hhpH6ABSJTamWOuNDIyebuXLNuc-jB2rydA86EmtVpBoC9T8QAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
