  1. Sad day for B.A.S.S. , their ship has officially sunk !
  2. I like the Strike King Bitsy Bug 1/4oz with a Zoom Chunk Jr. Or a Zoom Swimming Chunk Jr. I've caught Bass in January in open water conditions in Michigan, just casting and hopping the jig every 20 to 60 seconds. When the weather is warmer and water temperatures are above 50 degrees, you can more quickly hop the jig along bottom to produce strikes. It's a very tedious process but when the bite is on it's like JJ Walker says....Dino-mite!
  3. This is exactly what I was just talking to someone else about last night; its almost word for word what I was thinking must happen to the sport to put it on par with other Professional Sports. Although I highly doubt it will happen, I think this would change the game more than anything !
  4. Is Bass Talk live a podcast or YouTube channel ? Where can I find this interview ?
  5. Strike King bitsy bug tubes on split shot or Mojo rigs
  6. I think this could get interesting; but I’m curious to know what would be the PBT farm system (so to say) Where would they continue to get talented and marketable anglers as their format grows ? Right now BASS has a stream of anglers from high school and college and the federation. FLW has a stream of anglers from BFL and I think the Everstart series. One of the things which makes the sport interesting is, how many of these pro anglers have been covered from the early parts of their amateur career and on into their pro career; this has been done through BASS and their efforts to have an infrastructure similar to other sports. So will PBT just continue to pluck interested anglers from the other Trails ? Or do they have any intention of their own to create an amateur division and pro-am division ?
  7. Many Bass Anglers (including myself) consider Fishing a sport or even an art; and most don’t find chumming for Bass to be very sporting. And if it’s really only about catching Bass and not how they are caught, then why not consider dynamite or electroshock equipment. because you will have your limit in no time.
  8. Everyone continues to be concerned there won’t be any talent remaining in BASS Elites after 30 or 40 anglers jump ship....I’m kind of beginning to wonder if this many do leave the Elites, how would BASS extend invitations to anglers to round out a 100 angler field ? It seems like they would have to change how this works because if the numbers are accurate they might need to find 30 to 40 new anglers who are all capable of paying $75,000 entry fees for a season ? Are there even that many upper tier anglers waiting in the lower ranks who can front this kind of cash ? How else could they round out a Top 100 field ? Also this brings another interesting question to mind....If that many talented anglers leave the Elites, and new less talented anglers enter the Elite Field but payouts remain similar to last year , from a financial point of view, wouldn’t an angler want to remain in a less crowded and less talented field of anglers where their chances of cashing checks improve?
  9. In no particular order.....Strike King Red Eye Shad, Storm Rockin Shad, Bill Lewis, Cotton Cordell, Sebile Lipless Seeker, Rattling Rapala, LiveTarget and Discontinued Strike King Diamond Shads have all produced. I don’t stick to one brand of Lipless Crankbaits because of how varied their sound and vibrations are, and My Plano Box looks like a smorgasboard of options at an all you can eat buffet !
  10. Ive successfully used Spiderwire Zilla Braid 40lb when frogging . I’m not sure if it’s 8 carrier or 4 Carrier braid. But if I remember correctly the 40lb Zilla Braid is the equivalent diameter of most 65lb braid. So it has a larger diameter than normal braid and somewhere around 6 or 7% stretch, this allows the line to cast better with less binding and looping. It might be an option if you can find it on the shelf anywhere.
  11. This is probably some of the best advice I’ve heard. Just be you because in essence YouTube is reality tv and starting from where you are and showing the mistakes and successes , throughout the learning process would be entertaining and original !
  12. Yes this is good advice
  13. Presently there are 60 votes and only 3 have chosen a Spook style topwater and only 1 has chosen a Sammy style topwater (myself). Considering what we know about bass feeding behavior in the Fall , doesn’t it seem odd there weren’t more votes in these categories ?
  14. Fall is a great time of the year to be a fisherman and outdoorsman. For those of us who remain on the water in the Fall, what is your favorite and most productive lure between September and October ? I think it will be interesting to see what is productive for everyone in the Fall, and compare this to what lures are generally recommended.
  15. My Rods are 90% Abu Garcia Veritas and my reels are Abu, Shimano, Okuma and *** Fishing.
  16. A 6ft6 or 6ft10 Medium power Fast action Spinning Rod paired with a Size 25 or 30 Spinning reel, would be a good place to start for a beginner. In the beginning try not to get too caught up with brands and analysis of which is better than another. There are a lot of good options out there. The Lews Mach series combos at Dicks Sporting Goods are pretty nice at the $100 price point, and the Abu Garcia Pro Max combo for $69.99 at Cabelas and Dicks Sports would also be another good option for a beginner. I would also consider how much tackle you would want and factor in another $100 for basic tackle and line.
  17. I’m sure there are some bass in this pond but most likely first and second year bass, with a few 2lb fish . But if that same pond were in Florida it would probably hold some pigs.
  18. In northern regions (because of the potential for a deep freeze) the size of bass in ponds or marshes can be very dependent on depth. First thing I would do is find out how deep the pond is ?
  19. I've had reels do this after a few seasons of really hard fishing with braided line, I think one was an Abu and the other a Shimano. In both cases the remedy was to replace the anti reverse bearing
  20. The Yum Christie Craw is an awesome plastic; I like to pitch these plastics with 3/0 EWG hooks and 3/16 oz bullet sinkers; but I’ve also caught a load of largemouth just swimming them inches below the surface.
  21. J.Vincent replied to Todd2's topic in Fishing Tackle
I rarely throw a popper (and probably should) but when I do it’s either a Storm chug bug or a BPS Knock off. I have more confidence with longer style poppers because I can pop them or walk them . I also like the Zman plastic popper frog in cover...it’s exceptional
  22. 1 6ft6 or 6ft10 Medium ModFast Baitcaster for Sammie’s 1 6ft6 or 6ft10 Medium Fast Spinning combo for tubes and Senkos
  23. Co-Anglers are like the Rodney Dangerfields of the sport...they get no Respect : )
  24. I would recommend the Revo X for $99.99 and a 7ft Veritas MH Fast for $99.99
  25. Consider first the type of river you are fishing; is this a shallow stream like system ? or is it a big river system with creek arms and a network of backwater areas ? Without knowing the river system though, I think the one lure I would have ready in September and October no matter the river, is a Zara or Sammy for fishing Bass in current breaks and adjacent slack water during the morning and evening.
