  1. A lot of saltwater companies have bigger fluke style baits and they're usually really durable
  2. Honestly most people seem to suggest Tungsten which has its advantages (loader on rock, more compact, etc.). And I'll be honest I genuinely like using tungsten. But unless fishing is your job and every little bit helps, you could probably just buy lead and never notice a difference. I've fished both in the same day and the tungsten didn't make a noticeable difference. But I'm not a pro and I'm also not a micromanager. To me if it's more economical and it works to the same extent, then it's good for me
  3. I never use that one with braid, only with fluoro or mono. I always use a palomer with braid
  4. Sounds like Texas. We've had a little less rain down south but a little north of Houston has been getting flooded on the weekends. Somehow the work week is gorgeous though. The fish must've said some awfully good prayers this year ?
  5. Well it's another idea that might catch more fisherman than fish ?
  6. Now that's a thought! Wonder how good a bass's nose really is?
  7. Curious what knot you were using? Never had this problem with a palomer
  8. IMO more hooks=more hookups. So I'm gonna take the double over the single everyday of the year
  9. One time I was fishing in the bay with my grandparents and my grandma asked me to get more bait for her (I was about six). As I was digging out a shrimp for her something hammered my bait and my little spincast rod didn't stand a chance. It was gone! Another time my little cousin lost her reel. We were out on the lake and she went to cast. As she did so she cried out "uh oh." I glanced back to see her spinning reel, bail open, fall into the lake in about 20 ft of water. I began pulling in the line to try and save the reel. Sadly however, after pulling in about 200 yards of line, there was nothing on the other end. The line had broken at the spool and the reel was at he bottom of the lake! Has to be the funniest thing I've seen happen while fishing ?
  10. Cold is relative but in south Texas (just south east of Houston be exact) the weather hasn't been great either. Had a "cold" front come in last weekend that put the temp in the 40s and left us with a 20 mph northern and a constant mist. Today is beautiful in the upper 70s but this weekend is supposed to be a repeat of last. Needless to say the fish and the fishermen aren't very happy down here ? I guess I should be happy it's not snowing, but still, it's bad for us warm loving Texans
  11. What he said ? But I'll dumb it down for you Clear water: Natural colors (green pumpkin, watermelon red, shad, crawfish etc.) Dirty Water: Dark colors (black & blue, junebug, etc.) These rules apply for both hard and soft baits. You'll find hundreds of tips on color but that can be overwhelming if your just starting. This is the rule I live by and it's helped me land tons of fish. Most importantly find what works for you and have fun in the process ?
  12. Another thing to consider is that a body of water can only hold a certain poundage of total fish. All fish (crappie, carp, catfish, bluegill, shad, bass, etc.) are included in this. Once a pond hits its max one of two things happen: a.) fish start to die or b.) fish size suffers. Usually it's a combination of both with more fish losing weight than dying off. This is why ponds often get an over abundance of small fish- they've hit their weight max. This max is determined by a number of factors including water quality, vegetation, and space. The ideal big bass pond would be stocked with only bass and bluegill. The pond may have shad if it's very big but bluegill can support a bass population by themselves. The pond would also harvest fish in the 10-14 inch range annually in order to reduce some of the poundage in the pond and give the other fish some room to grow (kinda like letting the air out of a balloon). I would check and see if there's any other species in the pond because they are contributing to the ponds weight. If you're serious about turning it in to a bass haven, I would consider doing some more research and instituting a harvest plan (these are based on acerage so that's why I suggest the research) and maybe consider removing excess fish species such as crappie, catfish, carp, etc. Hope this helps!
  13. I've never fished the Pad Crasher but I've heard great things about them! My my two favorites are the Spro Bronseye and the Livetarget. Both seem to get great strikes! I'm not going on comment on hookups cause I suck at those and I'm still learning ? The Lunkerhunt Lunker Frogs are pretty cool and get better hookups then some other frogs but they aren't that durable and I tend to get less strikes I would not recommend the H2O Xpress frogs that Academy has. They're cheap and IMO they're not even worth the cheap price. They don't walk easy and they fill up with water often. The low price point can Ben tempting but just stick to a quality brand frog
  14. One time I was fishing in the bay with my grandparents and my grandma asked me to get more bait for her (I was about six). As I was digging out a shrimp for her something hammered my bait and my little spincast rod didn't stand a chance. It was gone!
  15. Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and you'll make him broke!
  16. How much do they cost?
  17. Not asking for sympathy, just giving a report ? Good luck to you man!
  18. Basic Info Body of Water: Neighborhood pond (about 5-10 acres) (Del Webb) Richmond, Texas Date: 4/8/18 Time: 5:00-7:30pm Air Temp: Mid 50s Water temp: unknown Sky: Overcast, misting Caught: 1 largemouth (about 1 lb) Notes: So Texas decided to try and ruin fishing yesterday by slamming us with a cold front in the middle of the spawn. When I should've been able to catch fish on topwater, I was forced to resort to alternative methods. Me and my buddy aren't the guys to cancel because of weather, so we decided to test our skills. After what seemed like forever, I finally connected with a healthy 1 pounder on a Blakemore Randy's Swim'n Runner underspin. The pond had a very distinct grass line, and when the underspin reached he edge, it got smoked (about 1 ft and half of water). I missed another fish of similar size in the same way (poor hookset). I've never been so proud to catch a small fish but under these conditions, anything is good. I also managed to get two bites on a jig but failed to connect. Hope this report helps someone out!
  19. Wait I'm confused... ?
  20. I recommend keeping a fishing log that tracks weather, gear used, location of fish etc. that way after a year or so you can readdress what did and did not work during the same seasons under similar conditions
  21. Really good stuff!
  22. Top 3 for me have to be a 5" stickbait in a green pumpkin. A 5" swimbait in a white color. And a whopper plopper in any natural color I can't promise it's effectiveness at all times but something made that Bass want it ?
  23. Love the sound of the music but still not familiar with a ton of artists. God bless that sound though
