Amen to that one! Once the Bait Monkey starts, it's hard to stop him

If you could only have 3 baits for year round bass fishing what would they be??
Hey don't count anything out! My buddy caught a five pounder on a skirtless spinnerbait with a 12" bubble gum worm trailer on a day when nothing would work The rig was officially named the spinnerworm

Crankbaits in shallow vs deep water? Which work better?
Well I can't be a ton of help to you in the realm of Smallmouth, but I know from personal experience that both of those cranking rods can be effective for either type of cranking. While they each will excel better for what they have been designed for, they can both crank shallow and deep. Personally I've caught a lot more bass on cranks in water less than 12 feet but I'm a largemouth guy, and we don't have too many brownies here in Texas

Thanks for all the input, I was looking at the Hook 4x and saw two different ones: one that said W/Mid/Hi XDCR (much cheaper) and one that said W/Mid/Hi/DownScan XDCR. My question is a.) can someone translate that I'm new to the world of electronics and b.) is the DownScan really worth the extra money? Thanks guys

where do you buy most of your gear
I usually buy from Academy but that's cause it's close to home. I prefer Bass Pro. I tend to favor brick and mortar over online as well

VERY Pressured Pond Tactics
My go to for high pressured ponds is a shaky head. It's small, natural, and can be used in all structure and cover. Since the water is still cold, I would attempt to locate structure in the middle of the pond and work the heck out of it. When the water warms up the fish will probably move to the edges of the bank because it will provide them with adequate structure. Those fish have probably seen a zillion senkos and pretty much any other traditional bait so try varying it up. Also fish right at the crack of dawn and right before dusk, the fish tend to be more aggressive at those times

No stank sandals
Love my crocs but I half to admit they start to stink on the way home. Also have a pair of Keens that I absolutely love

Chatter bait colors
Green pumpkin is my favorite. Seems to work in any senario

Best swimbaits for beginners
Strike King Rage Swimmers are my favorite but Big Bite Baits Cane Thumpers are cheaper and effective for learning how to fish swimbaits. I love white and green pumpkin colors. As for hard swimbaits I can't really help you. I don't even own one but my brother has an H2O Express bluegill and he loves it

Thanks so much for the code! Much appreciated My dad has a Lew's inshore series and he loves it. I figured more Lew's fans would show up but apparently Diawa seems to be taking the cake

My first official crankbait catch! - Not what I expected!
Seems to be all of them but I would say that bluegill squarebills seem to have caught the most for me personally

Favorite water you've fished.
Bull Shoals but haven't fished a ton of waters

Thanks! That was my biggest fear with a reel in the 7.x-8.x range- cranks. Glad to know a faster reel can still be effective. My current reel is 7.1:1 and it's been successful with cranks, but I don't have enough experience to know if I'm getting the most out of my cranks.

Thanks but the 8.1:1 is a little bit fast than what I'm looking for right now

My first official crankbait catch! - Not what I expected!
I catch catfish more on crankbaits than any other bass lure and I can't recall ever snagging a cat with one. They always smoke it

I've been a Curado guy too. I have two relativley newer models but they just haven't held up like the old tank Curados. Pretty sure those work better than the newer models. Being in south Texas, I'm a saltwater angler also. So I always bought Curados because they were pitched as being durable in saltwater. I'm really looking for something that's a fresh start and I don't care if it doesn't work for saltwater, I'll just use it for freshwater only. I'm relativley new to bass fishing (within the last 3 years), and I'm still trying to figure this world out. I got most of the fishing tactics down, but gotta work on the gear. Especially a reliable arsenal
