  1. I like zona live. One of the few actual fishing shows that I watch. I think My favorite episode is when they were fishing Lake St.Claire and the guy with him hooked into a decent sized sturgeon on 8 lbs line. They lost it at the boat because, they didn’t have a big enough net
  2. Ned rig or a Tube either t-rigged or a Tube jig. drag or hop them on the bottom. Green pumpkin is a good knock off of a gobey. since it’s in Lake Erie you could use a tube jig and not have to worry much about hang ups. I’d start with 1/4 oz weight. If they want to hit it on the fall you could use less weight. Deeper than that I’d go 3/8. Once you get passed 14 ft I’d use 1/2
  3. Carp were frolicking and jumping around on Murphy too in some dense floating weeds. Must be getting close. taking the boat to work Wednesday and will be fishing muskrat for sure. I’d like to hit the launch by the boat club in Lansing sometime this month. Need to wait for the grand to go down though
  4. I guess, I didn’t know how each lake is kind of just on its own schedule. I’m kinda surprised how far along spawn is allready. We have really only had a week of warm weather. sucks that flood happened on the Tittabawassee. Who knows how the river reacts when it’s back to normal. Probably a bunch of new dead heads and holes. That was only 20-30 minutes from me. Huge small mouths and other kinds of fish. Sheep head are in now from the bay. they are fun to catch im hoping to hit muskrat this week. Might be the last one before I go up north on 5th. Possibly by myself. Won’t be bad I can fish all three days I’m up there
  5. I’ve noticed especially with small mouth if a booyah spinner bait lasts 6-8 fish your doing good. They seem to be worse on them than the large mouths. Depending on fish size usually after about 8 fish they start not running right.
  6. yeah those are the biggest rock bass I have ever seen. Crystal lake has a crap ton too. Good for kids because, it is constant action. Plus both those lakes a deep and cold. I here they taste excellent out of both lakes. fished Murphy to day water temp was almost 72 degrees. I get the feeling the spawn is over there. I saw lots of fish shallow but, didn’t look like they were guarding any thing. I put a report in the latest catch page. Highlight was I caught my first fish ever on a swim jig and swim jig I made. From pouring in a mold to putting the skirt on. I lost probably a 20 incher on the same swim jig. Last cast of the day nailed a fat 16 incher oh yeah lots of black squirrels. It’s just a color phase of. The grey squirrel
  7. Went to the in-laws family today. Well wife and daughter to the in-laws. I dropped them off and headed to Murphy lake which, is 5-10 minutes away Fished for almost 8 hrs. I can not believe the amount of people fishing right now. Kind of a slow day but, lot of pleasure boats were out and fishermen like I said. not anything huge but, caught about 6 total. First one came on a half chartreuse and half green pumpkin ned rig ( I forget the name. I lost a huge bass and caught a hammer handle on a discontinued green pumpkin orange claw craw dad-z t-rigged. High light of the day in desperateation mode I decided to start throwing my home made swim jigs. Right off the bat list probably a 20 incher I was about sick. Than last cast of the day I nailed this fat 16 incher. Nailed it on the fall. First time ever really throwing a swim jig. I thought it was kind of a off the wall color. Apparently the bass did not think so
  8. I’m hoping to be fishing big crystal for small mouth in 2 weeks. Will probably also fish the big lake with my brother. Big platte and little platte are good bass lakes. Big platte is similar to crystal. Biggest rock bass I have ever seen. You look down in the water and think they are bass. Big platte also has huge smallies. little platte is shallower and only avg probably 6 feet. Has really large mouth fishing. I expect water temps to be in mid 50’s on crystal and big platte. Little plate low to mid 60’s. I have not been up north on Memorial Day in a couple years. Last 2 years we stayed down here and i fished Murphy lake. Just hoping for the lake not to be chocolate milk
  9. Dang how far west are you for water to be that cold? pt.betsie Is where I proposed to my wife. My profile pic is of fishing Lake Michigan. Yeah we can crash it !!!! Saturday were going To her moms and right there is Murphy lake which is a good sized lake. Along with a couple of smaller lakes around. I usually take the boat with us. I drop them off and Murphy lake is 5 minutes away. Yeah, no the Tittabawassee will be un fishable for a very long time. I always wanted to fish lake wixom but, probably won’t get too now. your right it should be on fire as long the lake isn’t chocolate milk. I’m hoping it will clear up by Saturday
  10. Yeah that rain did have an effect. We are having record floods right now. The Tittabawassee just crested at like 35 feet After a dam failure on wixom reservoir. oh yeah brings you to Michigan?
  11. short report more of a current condition report for anybody in Michigan area. Went out yesterday 5/16 to a new to me lake about 45 minutes away. Lake was called crystal lake in Montcalm county (central Michigan). Crystal Lake is gin clear, fairly deep, and a decent sized lake. widest point is probably a mile wide. Fished for 7 hrs. Only managed a hammer handle and a couple smaller bass up shallow. Most of my success came on ned rig using the discontinued z-man craw dad-z on 1/8 ned head Looks to me the males have arrived shallow and are starting to make beds. I see a bunch smaller fish up shallow only saw a couple 16 inchers. I’m assuming the girls have not arrived yet water temp was 57 degrees at the surface when I left. Tried fishing the beds best I could after nothing else could get going. I was in my tin can so, with a 12-15 mph I was getting blown all over ( can’t wait for a heavier boat) however, we are forecasted for 3-4 inches of rain so who knows what happens
  12. Weather really has not been that cooperative up here in the north country hope it changes soon. I ordered about 100 bucks worth of tungsten weights ( only the 1/2 oz is shown). So far I ordered a lot of 6 war eagle spinner baits which, came in various sizes and unique colors I can’t wait to throw. I also had another 2 pack of 1/2 white lime color show What came that really excites me are these kvd 1.5 silent flat side cranks. Package says square bill but, they don’t have a square bill. I’m hopping these will replace my bomber 6a and 7 a cranks. Even though, I have caught plenty on the 4A size bombers I can’t buy a bite on the bigger bomber cranks. Trying to fill the medium depth hole in my crank arsenal
  13. Isn’t Basically the whole south shore of Lake Erie good for bass this time of year. Somebody did a bass show from like the Erie area.
  14. I’ve fished Michigan rivers and lakes for a long time. I caught a lot of smallies when I first re-started on a weightless T-rigged a gulp crawler with a 4/0 hook. Unless you using a smaller worm 4/0 will suffice and is kinda a universal bass hook size for anything imho.
  15. Green pumpkin Zoom 4 inch tube t-rigged. Weight depends on where I’m fishing. Could be any where from 1/8-1/2. Especially on a new lake or river does not matter. Flat out catches fish where ever I throw it. In fact I’ve had to switch lures just because, I get bored
  16. Detroit area ?
  17. Your right. Does phlueger even make the higher end fly reels any more? or is that all subbed out now ? Take apart almost any sub-$100 bait caster and they are all almost identical inside.
  18. Not a bass. To windy to launch the boat. First brookie ever. Finally putting my premier UL st.croix to use. Went and did some ground pounding today on a stream 45 minutes away, surrounded by state land. Should have kept it but, put it back. All of 13 inches
  19. Also I think phlueger made some of the gander mountain spinning reels in the past before the bankruptcy. at least they were 10 years ago. I bought a cheap combo when i got back into fishing from gander ten years ago. the reel that came with the rod was a Trion badged as gander mountain reel.
  20. Have not really bought anything tackle related lately. Today at the surplus store picked up a blue gill berkly cutter 110. 2 packs of kalins size mic shad That I’ll use for spinner baits I think. Since it will be to windy to launch the boat tommrow. I think I’m heading trout fishing so I picked up a golden f-7 rapala ( I can use it for smallies in smaller river also. oh I also bought a lot of 6 war eagle spinner baits in various sizes from eBay. Those hsvnt come in the mail yet
  21. So I was doing some messing around with the grubs. No matter what I do they ended up splitting. or if they didn’t split right away they split later. Might just have to invest in bigger grubs or paddle tails. I definitely like how the 3/4 oz spinner bait stayed down on the bottom of 12 foot of water on the river. Oh also FYI Apparently kalins started mfg in China. I have 4 bags total in differnt colors of kalins 4 inch grubs. 3 bags made in the US the bag of white grubs says made in China.
  22. I love swamp crawlers both the original magnums and z series ones
  23. Do you cut the heads off flush or just rig it on. Those seem to have a highly defined head
  24. I actually have some bought some this winter. Those will probably work well. I bought them for spinner baits
