  1. My friend prefers the stiffer paddle tails because the stiffer tail helps to give the swim jig a rocking motion. Without the Rocking motion imparted by the paddle he would have to shake the rod. He throws bigger swim jigs in the 3/4-1oz range. Do you think the advantages of a stiffer Tail is over stated? Or do you think the floppy ones like the Keitech. I haven’t thrown swim jigs enough to notice the difference yet
  2. I was using super glue. I dunno if it would stay on if I didn’t take it all the way to the head. I think it’s more of what the first poster was saying that I probably just didn’t have them on right.
  3. Just spit on or water for lube ? Than make sure it’s dead center on it ? Sounds simple enough
  4. What trailers are you guys running for a 3/4 oz war eagle spinner baits. I usually use 4 inch Kalins ( or similar size grubs). However, because a lot of the weight of the spinner bait is located on the hook shank. It is splitting my grubs right down the middle. suggestion on a bigger grub or I guess would it also split a paddle tail? took a decent smallie with this combo out the Tittabawassee River.
  5. Received the reel in the mail last week after taking 3 weeks to get here via usps. It is basically brand new reel for 25 bucks I’m happy. I haven’t used or spoiled it up yet
  6. The Tittabawassee River was packed with walleye fishermen. Like as in so packed I’ve never seen the parking lot so full. Usually I don’t hit the titt untill after the majority of the walleye leave. There will probably be over 300 boats launched out of center street today. The river was literal race track. However, it was 65 and sunny and we are supposed to get rain all week. Being I wanted to use the boat and that was the closest launch. Away I went. Picked up an almost 16 inch smallie on a 3/4 war eagle silver head with white, green, and blue skirt spinner bait. Caught another smaller smallie and a sheep head on a zoom green pumpkin tube. Felt good to get out again. I was throwing the spinner bait on my Walmart clearance falcon rod with an slx reel. First fish for each. the slx is so nice
  7. That’s what I’m hoping for. I’m just putting it on my mh lighting rod. 65-70 bucks total spent for an extra rod I think it is money well spent. I’ve never had an issue with my black max. Silver Max’s go any where between 50-60 bucks plus shipping if bought on line. I won’t know for sure untill I get it but, It looks like A “got a used couple times reel” for over half off.
  8. I ment swim jigs. My bad I have plenty of time at the moment. I have been laid off for the last 2 weeks. Untill the big three get going again as we supply power tran components to all three plus a couple foreign ones.
  9. Just picked up a silver max on eBay for 25 bucks shipped. Think I’m gonna use it for swim jigs . This is actually the first used reel I’ve bought. It actually looked brand new. How do you guys handle getting a used reel? What’s your Standard operating procedure as far as a getting a used one ? Do you tear it completely down and give it a once over or screw it and fish it. its only a silver max but, I’m just wondering in the future if I buy a nicer used reel.
  10. Congrats. Yes I fished sleepy hollow Friday. I left at 3pm and water was barely getting to 49 degrees. Most of the water I found was 47.5 degrees +- a degree
  11. Awesome deal on a combo. My black max combo was my first bait caster and I bought it three springs ago. Paid for its self many times over. It has landed a lot of fish including a 28 inch flat head that had the rod bent almost in half. Mines a 6ft6 medium and its kinda my do everything rod chatter baits, square bills, spinner baits, and cranks. only thing it isn’t good at is deep cranking really big cranks, it will bog the reel down. Basic maintenance and that reel will last a while.
  12. This was before that thread. But, That thread did answer the question that they can be made work
  13. On cranks usually I just pull up firmly after the fish grabs it. Or I guess the technical term would be sweep up or what ever direction I have my rod at
  14. If you like back reeling than you need to try a center pin. I’ve never used a center pin rig but, I’ve been around enough of them. Basically fly fishing with out a drag on the reel. You palm what looks like a over sized fly reel. your Palm pressure on the reel controls how much line comes out while fighting a fish.
  15. This is the point I am at right now. I have way more jigs than I know what to do with. I’ve got people who wound buy some but, I think I’m just going to start giving them away. I don’t really want to start selling jigs. I just have a feeling if I get into that’s all I will be doing and then it feels like a job. The margins aren't that good any how for jigs . Have to sell a lot jigs to make real money.
  16. I bought some smoke clear plastic this winter. I think grubs and 3 inch tubes. Only place I will use them is up north in deep ultra gin clear lakes IE big crystal, big platte, little platte and a host of others. These lakes you can literally see 20-25 ft down in some spots. Last June I had to run a 12 ft flouro leader before I even started to have success on plastics.
  17. Something like this is the best I have found so far. its a little rusty but, still works great . Double sided and may have been under 5 bucks. Gets bigger hooks sticky sharp. Hooks smaller than size #8 are a little tricky though I was in scouts and never had the knack for sharpening knives. I bought a work sharp knife sharpener for that. So not all hook sharpening tools work for me and this does. I keep in my tackle bag
  18. Oh I’m sure unfortunately, your going to see a lot of nice used equipment and boats for sale. If the shut down continues on past Easter Your wife also wouldn’t let you jump on the dobyns sale. Women are weird I thought it was just mine. I don’t need any toilet paper but, I’d like a new dobyns spinning rod at 40% off
  19. A lot of old timers especially around here Do not understand the concept of fishing for fun. Only time you throw a back is it out of season or under the limit inch wise. Luckily In the state of Michigan bass is way down at the bottom of edible fish for most people.
  20. I’m thinking about going to flouro and only using braid in situations like you said. Flouro casts better imho. Everything is rigged up now though. next year I may swap over
  21. That’s why I bought the heavier rod
  22. I bought a dedicated punching set up this year. Both, times I had the opportunity to punch last year using 1 1/4-1 1/2 oz jigs I had phenomenal days. Just my set up was a little under powered. The one lake I Have to stop fishing after June because, the weeds are so bad. I was loosing fish not being able to get the out of cover. so I bought st.croix bassx H 7’2 rod with 65 lbs braid. I’ve got my accurist on it now but, that’s just temporary. I want a heavier duty reel for it.
  23. Rapala and the strike king KVD line I think are my top hard bait companies. To me there lures seem like they have good quality. they are not throw away lures but, I am not afraid to fish them around cover or toothy fish. still only paying $5-$10 dollars per lure sometimes, cheaper. Best balance between value, quality, catching fish, and not mega bass prices. However, I do swap hooks out to kvd triple grips
  24. Worked today. nailed my personal best LArge mouth on a delta craw shad rap. Cloudy 50-54 degrees stained water about 10 mph wind. The water temp where I caught her was 44.20 degrees. To me the conditions I faced today is what a red crank was designed for
  25. Pb alert. First trip of the year. Caught this big girl today and is my new personal best. Water was 44 degrees and she was hanging out in 7ft of water and nailed a #5 shad rap in delta craw. Air temp 50 degrees. I bought the shad rap on a whim off of eBay. I am now a believer in red lures
