  1. Anyone use these? Looking to replace my wild river nomad(too many zippers are broken) and they seemed really well built when I looked at them at bass pro.
  2. Title says it all. What are some decent ones under $50? From what I have read on a lot of them can have the coating easily rub off, just looking to see what you guys have or still use.
  3. I can understand that. Don't have a rod to throw under 1/4 lures and having that fishing gear fever right now lol.
  4. Hey guys I am looking to get more into smallmouth fishing. Do you guys mainly use medium lights to be able to throw the lighter lures for them? Would a walleye rod be a decent choice to double up as a smallmouth rod? I figured any big lures could be thrown on my medium setup anyways.
  5. Shore, wish I was though it would be a whole lot easier to find these deeper holes. I am north of kingery so it makes things a little harder.
  6. That's great, I wish but honestly my friends are all catfish fishermen lol. My current baitcaster is a med heavy/fast with a daiwa tatula ct 7:3:1 so maybe ill just focus on getting the medium/moderate baitcaster setup with a slower reel for cranks and just try a bunch of different lines on it.
  7. Just not that knowledgeable yet I guess man. As I have gotten the casting fever I have been trying to put together 3 setups(line, gear ratio, rod) to match everything perfectly with the technique. Might be overthinking things lol.
  8. Held it today at bass pro and it honestly seemed like the same real with a different paint job. I like the red and black more too lol.
  9. What lb do you use for braid? I have 65lb on my med heavy because I was having problems with dig ins, but I probably shouldn't use it for every technique lol. Maybe keep 65 on the medium heavy and use FC or only 40 lb on the medium setup? I put 10 lb FC on my spinning setup for finesse
  10. Do you guys find yourselves using braid or FC more as main line? I hear great things about both, but would like to avoid using leaders, still trying to tie a good double uni knot and I hear swivels scare bass. Also ask because I am buying a medium baitcaster setup and thought maybe FC would be good on the spool and just use braid on my medium heavy setup.
  11. Was getting some 1lb largemouths on the desplaines with the whopper plopper a few days ago with the good weather, now that it got cold again ned rigs seem to be only working for me.
  12. The line conditioner that I use "Real Magic" seems to work. I use it on my mono setups and IMO it works. I didnt think it would really do anything for braid though because it has zero memory. I did just talk to a guy at bass pro that said he soaks his line spool in lukewarm water as he spools his reel up though.
  13. Awesome. I hike too much to fishing spots to be able to carry more than 3 setups and a net lol.
  14. Thanks for the response! The sticky suggested a moderate action rod in the 3 rod arsenal so I figured id go with it. Does it matter if it is moderate fast or moderate slow?
  15. Planning on sticking with using 3 setups all the time. 2 baitcasters and a spinning like the Rod Selection sticky suggested. 7ft St Croix Triumph MF with a kastking 3000 sharky III -Spinning 7ft Berkley lightning Rod MHF with Daiwa Tatula CT 7:3:1 7ft Fenwick HMG MM with ?? What type of gear ratio would I want with this third option? Would I want something faster than 7:31 or slower?
  16. Ah so they slow down big time when its below 50? Do they also move alot deeper too? Thats good to know ill check the temps tomorrow when i go. That's what I am mainly concerned with, these odd weather patterns throwing them off.
  17. Forgot to mention, will be getting there at around 10 am.
  18. Hey guys I am in Illinois and getting ready to do some pike fishing tomorrow on a river. The spot is a creek that runs down and meets the river. Gets around 3-5 feet deep, no more than 5 though. Have had some luck with some big pike in the summer, but now the weather got to 30 degrees for a little bit, and now its back to 70 this week. With these conditions, what type of lures should I be throwing or would the better bet to use creek chubs on a bobber this time of year? Maybe the area is too shallow and the pike have moved cus of the weather? Any tips is appreciated.
  19. How heavy of lures are you guys throwing if using something like 15 lb mono?
  20. Hey thanks alot! Is there any reason for me to include a heavy rod in my setup? Or will a medium heavy be fine for anything i need done with the straight heavy?
  21. Thanks for the reply! My next rig will be a baitcasting setup, would you have any recommendations on what I should be focused on adding?
  22. Hey guys, I'm new to the forum, so I would like to say thank you for any feedback that is given . I wanted to start getting my rigs sorted out for different techniques, so i know which ones to take for beginning tournaments. There is a lot of information out there and it is pretty overwhelming. I currently own a st croix triumph 7' medium fast, a bass pro tournament med-heavy fast 7', and an okuma celios med-light 7'4 fast. These are all spinning, and I am going to be going next week to get a baitcasting setup. What techniques can i already cover with what i have? Again, thanks for any help, I have scanned over this forum and it seems like everyone is pretty cool here.
