  1. Hitting Lake Anna tomorrow with my kayak, not sure of the exact location, and I realize the lake is big, but any of you guys fish it? I’m sure it’s at least a decent fishery. Just wanted to see if anyone on here fishes there regularly or might have any points of interest or tips for a first timer. Thanks in advance.

Yes. All jokes aside, I believe color can be an important piece of the puzzle. That said I don’t believe it is always the most important piece.
  3. Love when they get that size, reguardless of weight when they get that shape you know it’s a good one, congrats!
  4. Prey doesn’t always make a perfect splash-less entry to the water! if you want to give your bait a nice clean entry just be easier with it, swing your bait out rather than hucking it, keep it more parallel to the water, go easy with it, it’s all in the wrist. You’d be surprised how far you can cast a lure without absolutely bombing it. Play around and practice, you’ll learn a lot from messing around. Hope that helps.
  5. @Sam thanks for the topic, definitely something to consider when deciding to buy older used shimanos. This reel guy in Powhatan, is he someone you can share his info with me?
  6. Whoops! Got some new jig supplies, netbait paca chunk trailers, some rage bugs, sweet beavers, and some d bombs. Went “easy” on the jigs only buying 5 as I plan on giving sieberts a holler soon. Also went for some 7” senkos (man those things are fat haha), some shaky heads, and some more leader material. The monkey has struck again.

I typically wouldn’t throw a spoon in a lake, but I’m sure somebody is doing it with success. What type of bass are in the lake? Sounds to me like you want to throw some moving baits which is understandable as power fishing is tons of fun. Might I suggest you try: lipless cranks, squarebill cranks, spinnerbaits (willow bladed), and bladed jigs (chatterbait). I think you will find that these baits fish very similar to your beloved spoons, and they potentially will yield better results. Sounds like you’ve been able to adapt and catch them on finesse presentations, so if nothing works you’ve got that down. Hope that helps, go catch some giants!
  8. I t-rig them on a small weighted hook (similar to a Swimbait hook but much smaller). They are smallie killers for me, but I’m sure bass of a different variety would blast them as well. Good luck! edit: I fancy the 3.5” size like the previous poster alluded to.
  9. Huk

Feel like I just got out of class boys, thanks. I’ll never mispronounce Huk in my head ever again.
  10. It’s for sure something that happens to most people time to time. For me, a total skunking has happened with less frequency the more serious I’ve gotten about fishing. The important thing is to try and learn from your experiences and let them motivate you. The people that get skunked and immediately assume “there’s no fish in this water” aren’t gonna have the same success as the ones who are eager to figure out why the fish weren’t cooperating.

  14. Awesome story, cool how your misfortunes didn’t put a damper on your fishing. Bet that double felt like a state record ?.
  15. Jigs, worms, and shallow cranks have been my go to presentations lately.
  16. Circle hook and a hotdog. Hang on!

    Welcome!
  19. Haha It took me a while to figure out where the mysterious bruises and discomforts to my lower ribs were coming from...may sound dumb but I never put two and two together! Needless to say, I’ve got a good bruised rib cage from this weekend.
  20. Spent the weekend on a small river in Bath County VA. Lots of fun, bagged over 30 fish, but none of real size. Broke in my fly rod which was really enjoyable. Late this afternoon I set hook on an absolute stud in a farm pond close by, got it within 5 feet of the shore and it jumped and shook my jig :/. Coulda shoulda woulda kind of scenario. Anyways here’s a few pics from the trip. Had to much fun not to share!
  21. Glad to hear you are out of that bed and getting on the water, welcome aboard. I’ll flag the post so that a mid can move it for for you!
