Lithiums or Lead Acid?
What is the appeal of a solid state battery?

I think it will be a huge improvement when a computer is calling balls and strikes. Eventually I expect that all pitches will be called this way. It will be more accurate. Then we will move on from bad umpire conspiracies to bad software conspriacies. 😆

Sports participants and sports fans have been complaining about how rules are enforced by officials since the beginning of time. This happens in almost every sport. There are no changes that can be made to the rules or the level of transparency that will change this. Release more information and people will complain about the new information. As long as humans are involved in calling the shots and interpreting the rules there will be accusations of unfairness and rumors of conspiracy theories. If the last batter in the World Series strikes out on a called strike, people will complain about the call. What if the league later determines that the umpire missed the call? Should that be made public? It never ends. College football is my first love and I'm just glad these types of controversies don't exist with it. 😆

Lithiums or Lead Acid?
Is it cost effective depends on how long you plan to keep the boat. Do the math. Lithium batteries advertise 3000-5000 cycles. Fish twice a week that's 28 years for 3000 cycles. Who knows if anyone will ever use one that long but half that long would more than justify the cost.

A love letter to mono
I prefer to call it Nylon Superline. It sounds newer and cooler and yeah I like it. Only downside is you don't get that extra confidence boost that comes from paying $50 for spool of fluorocarbon. 😆

I am not really into the soap opera dramas in sports. All sports have it. I will say this: there is a difference between the officials and the pundits/media. It would be a big mistake for the NFL to allow the officiating crew to be interviewed after a game. Having them say on TV "The guy has a reputation with all of the officials in the league for trying to get away with holding on every play, so I was watching him closely." Officiating should be by the book without additional commentary in all sports. BASS is different from many sports leagues in that it has people who enforce the rules and it also has a media wing. I would hope the two communicate as little as possible. Scott Martin was DQed for soliciting information, which was the right thing to do. It is not the tournament director’s job or duty to also declare him a scumbag. That's the job for us on social media. 😆 Personally, I don't like the fact that everyone knows someone who’s seen the video but it's not publicly available. I haven't heard the details about the video because I haven't looked for them, but how do we know when the video was taken? What does it actually show him saying? If it's our duty as social media to condemn the guy, we need to see all of the evidence.

Do we know that BASS knew he was lying when he was on their broadcast? Is there a rule against spinning a story?
-
NPFL DQ
So Scott Martin was caught on video breaking the rules. The person with the video threatened to go public if he didn't self report. He self reported and BASS DQed him. What did BASS do wrong?

Battery issues
I would. It’s not critical but that’s the right way to wire it.

Battery issues
I think we have the answer!! I would drop it to 9 volts and fish until you see some other problem. You might want to take one of those cheap portable battery jumpers to jump start the motor so you can get home if I’m wrong.😊

Battery issues
Are you sure the batteries are wired in parallel? There should be heavy gauge wire connecting the + sides of both batteries together and another identical wire connecting the - sides together. I would connect all of positive (red) load wires to the + side of one battery. The photo shows the red wires wired this way. All of the negative (black) load wires should be connected to the - side of the other battery. The photo shows that this is not how it's wired. If all of the load wires are connected to one battery and the other battery is wired in parallel it should work and doesn't necessarily explain your problems. However, if there is a bad connection in the parallel wires, you could end up running everything off one battery and not know it. This probably won't fix your issue. If it doesn't I would try using one battery as a dedicated cranking battery and the other as a dedicated electronics battery. If your batteries are good you should have plenty of battery power to run your electronics for many hours. Cranking a motor will always cause the voltage to drop. Some fish finders are more sensitive to this drop than others. I know many people run a setup like yours with two parallel batteries with good results. The advantage is your motor can charge the batteries running your electronics. I tried running everything off a single cranking battery for several years. I never depleted the battery but I had a gen 1 Solix that would give low voltage warnings every time I cranked the motor. I had a Gen 3 Solix that worked great. I ended up doing like @Jig Man and adding a lithium just for the electronics.

Battery issues
Okay so the Humminbird is connected to two parallel batteries that are wired in parallel that are also used to crank the outboard. Next question. Are you getting a low voltage warning when you crank the motor? What model Humminbird?
-
Battery issues
So your Humminbird is giving low voltage warnings while showing 12.4 to 12.6 volts? What voltage is it showing when you first turn it on? Is the Humminbird connected to one of the AGM31s or both in parallel?

I'm also very impressed with how smart Drew Gill is. He knows that FFS is his strength and he relies on it heavily. He caught fish with it on the Harris Chain when no one else could and was one position out from making the finals. His non FFS period performance is sub par compared to guys like Wheeler. He's averaging 5.49 lbs per period without FFS where Wheeler is averaging 10.09 lbs per period. The field is averaging 7.7 lbs per non FFS period.

The Great Experiment Has Begun
Here are the latest number in the MLF Great Experiment. Stage 3 was a pretty heavy FFS tournament. The average period with FFS produced 64% more weight than the average period without FFS. This still lowered the season average down from 85% to 77%. Stage 3 Total Weight: 4139.8 lbs Average Weight per Angler Period With FFS: 11.70 lbs Average Weight per Angler Period Without FFS: 7.14 lbs Average FFS Weight Advantage Per Period: 4.56 lbs Percentage Increase in Catch Rate with FFS: 64% Season Total Total Weight: 13631.6 lbs Average Weight per Angler Period With FFS: 13.62 lbs Average Weight per Angler Period Without FFS: 7.70 lbs Average FFS Weight Advantage Per Period: 5.93 lbs Percentage Increase in Catch Rate with FFS: 77% The biggest surprise to me is the numbers continue to show no improvement in the size of fish caught during FFS periods. Season Total Average Fish Weight Total number of fish caught: 5343 Average Fish Size: 2.55 lbs Average Fish Size with FFS: 2.53 lbs Average Fish Size without FFS: 2.57 lbs Percentage Increase in Fish Size with FFS: -1.7% Just looking at the numbers for the final day in all three tournaments. FFS played a bigger role in the Championship rounds. Season Total Final Day Only Total Weight: 1183.2 lbs Average Weight per Angler Period With FFS: 22.30 lbs Average Weight per Angler Period Without FFS: 9.82 lbs Average FFS Weight Advantage Per Period: 12.48 lbs Percentage Increase in Catch Rate with FFS: 127% Next up is the Red Crest at Guntersville. I think they said that the Red Crest will be fished under the same rules that were used to qualify for it. So no FFS restrictions if that's the case.

Yeah I was setting here thinking it looked like ideal conditions but it was tough fishing. I don’t think I could make a cast under a dock with minutes left and $100K on the line. That was intense.

That was another good finish.

If the wife has a job making $100K a year and the husband is a professional fisherman and he’s good at it, that $75K-$80K of family income. Most families can live on that. 😂

Old vs new design specs.
@fish'n Jim Are you running the electronics on the same battery as the trolling motor?
-
Old vs new design specs.
Saying they require a specific wire gauge is absurd. Now saying they require a certain voltage is reasonable and the voltage drop in the wiring is affected by the length and gauge of the wire. If they told me they require 6 gauge wire I would ask them why the power cord they supply that runs to the unit is not 6 gauge. I've checked the specs on several Garmin units online and they all say the voltage requirements are 9 to 18 volts. There is no way your voltage is dropping below 9 volts due to your wire gauge.

Jacob Wall who is currently leading AOY finished dead last in this tournament. That has to hurt. ☹️

Powerfully effective tackle!
I wonder how important stick sensitivity is to him.
