I would say 15-20 psi for 95% of the paint I use.
  2. got to love the flip/flop colors, I still have not got the hang of them. good looking bait there.
  3. very nice!
  4. Maybe that guy got took by someone else.

Here are a couple of new M Flats in simple color patterns that just flat out catch fish.
  6. devcon 2ton epoxy, you can get it walmat. You will need to rotate the lure for about 25 min so the clear does not sag.

Yes sir, I twist my own hangers and epoxy in.
  8. Here are a couple of pointer re-paints and the new M Flat. The flat is a killer little flatsided bait out of balsa 3-5ft with a nice back wobble. Mine are slightly bigger than the WEC original and have much better rise for pulling thru cover.

Any Iwata gravity feed brush that will fit in that price range. I really like my eclipse and Hobby lobby also puts those coupons in the paper, got my brush for around 80 bucks. Wild life colors from WASCO best water based paint on the market.
  10. GMAN, I can paint all of those colors pretty close. It would be better to have the bait in hand but I could get close with just the picture.

The high dollar paint is easy to spray without thinning, but any paint will do if you can thin it enough to spray thru your brush.

bmadd, that is transparent payn's grey scaled over silver with shimer blue sprayed over the grey, turns it blue. the purple stripe is just down the back. Action is pretty cool, front half just the back rolls with a strong tail kick. I feel like is going to catch a few fish this spring.

citrus shad is usually lime/yellow green scaled over pearl white with a blue stripe down the back. I've also seen sky blue scaled over lime green with a dark blue stripe down the back. I've painted this color both ways and both look very good in the water.
  14. I would suggest a flat sided bait with a tight wiggle for the cold water. I do better with the big wobbling baits after the water warms up.

here is a small 4.5 inch swim bait. I was just playing around with the paint on this. What does everybody think?
  16. use auto focus ;D the bottom two baits (easy to do) I can't make out the top bait enough to tell.
  17. Boett, the pic doesn't show the colors very well. Here is the list of colors in the order that I spray on the bait. Base coat of pearl satin white, transparent yellow over entire bait, mauve over shoulders and back, metallic silver over back, transp. dark brown scales, hookers green stripe down back, deep red throat.
  18. I'll have to wait till I get home, can't see the pics at work (stupid filter)
  19. ctex pearl colors are very tough to spray thru any tip, but 1 that small will be almost impossible. Try thinning the paint just a little and uping the air pressure to about 35psi. The bubbles are the pearls in the paint blowing out in globs, I hate that. Wildlife colors makes a bright silver metal flake paint that I spray thru a .35mm tip without any thinning or increase in air pressure. Ctex is about 4th on my list as paints good for airbrushing baits. I have not tried the auto-air series yet but I heard good things about it.
  20. here are 3 new ones fresh off the drying wheel
  21. This is a pretty good square liped bait (made by me)
  22. To get a crankbait that will hunt on it's own, something has to be wrong with the bait. What I mean is something is out of line or off balance and the bait is running a thin line of starting the dreaded death roll. In 5 yrs of making baits, I've made 1 that has a true hunting action and I've never been able to do it again. For the guys looking for the hunting bait, I wish you lots of luck.

Fourbizz, the top and bottom baits are med depth 8-10 feet. But hold on by the end of the week I will have a new batch of 20+ cranks. Ernel, I love the new method. It really gave the baits a super smooth surface for paint.

I got a 4 gallon pancake compressor from Harbor Freight for around 80 bucks. It is loud and I wear hearing protection when I'm painting. You need to get a good regulator and I recommend a water trap and a in-line filter on your airbrush hose. You can't have the air dry enough for good painting.
