  1. There are lots of people painting plastics from Jann's and selling them as custom painted LC look alikes. But all the baits I saw stated that in the description. Sexy shad seems to be the new fav. color.

Here are some ul baits I just finished
  5. Thanks for all the nice words. Bassman, I did the stripes with a fine point sharpie. I'm not good enough with the airbrush to do those free hand. I'm going to try and perfect some stencil patterns this winter.
  6. Bottom line there fellas is you get what you pay for. That's why the better baits cost more money. Norman cranks tend to be the worst for having line ties off the center line but bandits have the same problem just not as often. To sell baits that cheap and still make money there has to be short cuts somewhere in the process.
  7. Muddy, any of the flat sided baits with short lip will work. I'm really a bit biased but the baits I build out of 3/8 thick stock work really well with this tech.
  8. I doubt the new Wally G baits have devcon brushed on anymore. That's the clear coat I use on my baits and it is too time consuming for a big production. Avalon, I've been making baits now for 5 years and the painting gets better the more I practice. I consider my painting to be a little better than avg. You don't need to be artistic to operate an airbrush, the artistic part comes into play when your blending colors and shading. Let me know if you want to get into painting, I can put you on the right equip and paint to get started.
  9. sure you can, it's a very productive method to fish a shallow running crank just under the surface.
  10. Production: flat sided shallow crank Favorite: flat sided shallow crank Both made by me
  11. Try backing the needle out just a little and see if that doesn't help. also check the nozzle and make sure it isn't cracked. Now c-tex is the thickest of the airbrush paints that I have used, that's why I went to wildlife colors by Smith Paint. If you are in the market for some new paint I would highly recommend giving wildlife colors a try.
  12. You can always re-paint your baits to match the schemes you want.
  13. C-tex usually sprays pretty good, so now I'm thinking air pressure may also be causing some of the trouble. Do you have this problem with every color you try or is certain colors? Are you getting at least 20 psi on a consistant basis?
  14. Your paint is too thick. try mixing a few drops of water (use a medicine dropper) and mix well. this should clear up that problem. If you are using craft paint, you may have to strain it thru a piece of panty hose after you thin it. Let me know excatly what brand of paint you are using.
  15. Daniel, it was a real pleasure working for you. Now I have got to practice picture taking, you pics look much better than mine. I want some pics of Swiss bass with one of those baits hanging from his lip. Marty
  16. Here a few new flat sided baits
  17. bassman, you can also use polyurathane in the spray can (ultra clear) and give the baits about 4 coats. That will give you baits pretty good protection. That is what I use, I've never messed with the thinned epoxy.

The plastic craft paint brushes from wally world. cut the brush in half and use the end to stir the epoxy. You need to rotate the lure for about 20 min to ensure a smooth even finish.
  19. I'll play again and I've got new toys ;D
  20. Some of the bills I made myself and the others came from Jann's. Cutting out and finishing the bills is very time consuming. I wish I could find bills in all the sizes and shapes I use, would save me at least 30 min per bait.
  21. Once the baits a put together your opitions are limited. Lead tape or soldier on the hooks. I usually make three baits from a new pattern with 3 different weights and pick the best of the three. All of those small cranks have an 1/8oz of weight in them. That bait was suppose to look like a crappie :'(
  22. and now the jerk baits
  23. I have finally finished a batch of baits for myself. Sat is going to be fun.
  24. Jann's is the best bet. Lots of name brand copies to choose from, be careful what you use for a clear coat. If the baits are a suspending lure an epoxy will likely to cause it to sink.

Allen, go over to TU and ask Dean what he uses. I know he is painting in his house and he said his set up was very quite.
