  1. Professional bass player (gospel, blues, jazz)at one point for about 7 years. Now? Father, beer consumer and husband. That order sometimes gets switched around...
  2. I throw my favorite top water in the nearest tree I can find. Then I show off my skills of climbing said tree as the boat drifts gently and I step on as if practiced.
  3. I fish a lot with 10lb braid with no leader. Main reason is with that light it’s hard for Fluoro to attach tightly to it. I’ve lost a couple fish due to this. One option could be going down in leader size but it’s been my experience that straight 10 braid is fine.
  4. He’ll be fine. They’re pretty hardy animals. I’ve had trouble getting hooks out at times and it’s been 3-4 minutes. Had to revive a little but they survived
  5. Hotter than 2 rats making love in a wool sock
  6. I wish my wife had the same moral dilemma as you. Woman took out an entire generation of Hybrids one night.
  7. Doesn’t bother me as much as seeing someone using a spinning reel upside down. Now that gets me going. That’s over slot on ignorance
  8. Yeah we did that before I got a trolling motor and got fancy. Let the wind drift us into the bank and cast out...caught’em too. Need to stop being so fancy and find the fish. Just got a Garmin 7cv so I’ll really need to stop being fancy and fish where’s there fish...we evidently say ‘fancy’ down here because I didn’t realize how much I said it
  9. Question: If fishing the bank (from a boat) I normally cast parallel. At times (spring, fall) more towards the bank. Then there’s other times it’s more 45 degree to cover both basis. Where I mostly fish is very different than Florida lakes. It’s a reservoir that drops quickly from 0-15 feet within 15-20 feet from the bank, and there is literally not 1 Lilly pad. Not 1 on the whole 5.5 mile stretch. From the info given, this the right approach?
  10. I invented the Texas rig. So I have that going for me....which is nice
  11. Yes this part. I’ve noticed the more active any of the wild life is the better the fishing is..I don’t care if it’s frogs, birds, grasshoppers, alligators actively swimming instead of in a static spot. It’s true. Sometimes there’s a natural vibe in the air
  12. I know for hybrids if they see the same bait for a while they will turn off. If I know they’re there I’ll switch up and stay on the same spot. If things get real tough you could always go with a cane pole and night crawler...?
  13. Pour some PBR on it, tell the wife your at therapy and let it rip
  14. Whatever you do for fun and attempt to monetize it, you won’t be doing what you thought. i.e i did BBQ for fun. I loved to BBQ Everyone said I should start a business. I did. Then I didn’t BBQ anymore. Why? I was doing payroll, comparing prices per pound of chicken, negotiating bids, picking up wood in the middle of the night, etc.. it will be the same for any business. If your ok with doing less of what you actually love to do, then go for it. But if you think your just going to pull up, drop the trolling motor and start casting, your setting yourself up for disappointment
  15. Never caught a smallie..but if they fight anything like Hybrids they gotta be fun!
  16. ^^??? I like. I want to hear the one about the cane pole and night crawler......again
  17. I’m with you on this. Best advice I’ve gotten (in fishing and life) get good at what your good at. With that in mind I’ve scaled down what I throw but expanded on colors. So instead of 5 different kind of jigs now it’s 2 in 3 different colors. Instead of 12 different styles of lipless now it’s 3 with 5 different colors. We don’t fish table rock one week and the Big O the next so we don’t need to be as flexible as the pros. Would it be nice? Sure. But I’d rather increase the quantity and quality of the fish then completely start over with a new technique. And I’ll never, ever buy a bait more than $8. Ain’t doing it. Don’t need it.
  18. Yes this^. Haven’t been fishing from a boat that long but boat position now comes to my mind more than I ever thought. It may sound like fiction, but the bite does turn on and off more than I thought due to angles.
  19. Agree with most here. The more I’m out in a boat the more I see there’s SO much more to fishing in a boat (everything working, everything in place and clean, safety etc..) then fishing from shore. Not better or worse just different. Nothing worse than fishing in someone’s boat where it looks like a Cat 5 hurricane came thru..that ain’t fun either
  20. Does having a boat (any kind) make you a better fisherman. Or does it allow you to be the same fisherman in more locations??. I have my own opinions but would love to hear from the guru’s
  21. Up to my thighs..watching out for snakes Dock 1974 14ft fiberglass and a paddle 1974 14ft fiberglass with Johnson 15 1985 Lowe 16ft converted to bass boat 30 hp Mariner/Yamaha and it has this small motor in the front to travel small distances. Believe it’s called a trolling motor. And the clincher is, I like fishing now more than back then..no rose colored spectacles in this eye shop
  22. Jig is the wife. Spinnerbait the mistress. When im throwing the wife I’m thinking of the mistress...sometimes vice versa
  23. Forgot to mention..offspring (in the 7+ range) are awesome. Kids are the most optimistic people I know. We’ve gone 11 hours without a bite and he’s ticked we’re headed back to the boat ramp. That’s positive attitude right there.
  24. Blue tooth speaker is my partner 75% of the time. +1 on ‘who you bring is important’ rather fish alone then bring someone who thinks it’s a fishing show and they’ll catch something every cast. My advice (same as with the gym) don’t think of it as something else besides work you have to do. Think of it as what you do, part of your schedule and it won’t feel like something extra. That’s when it’s not fun. Plan around it instead of doing it when there’s nothing else to do. I’m working out 4 days a week period. I’ll meet y’all for a drink after or help the kids with homework after, but not in place of. Make it a routine
  25. If they’re next to a drop off it’s an even more deadly area to catch’em. Around here (central Florida) there’s all of the above. In a foot of water and some I’ve seen in 6-8 foot. General thing I’ve seen is if the lily’s are alone (not much vegetation around) it tends to be deeper. If there’s a lot of other stuff growing it tends to be more shallow. Perfect for me is that 3-5 foot depth
