  1. Fish change color. All of them. Clear water=more natural colors, faster action Stained water= more colors, slower action. As far as water temp? I’m in central Florida so I can’t help you with that. Theres a lot of spawning done around New Years Eve....not much unlike humans
  2. First voyage. Ever in my boat. 14ft Vhull with a 15hp Johnson that was used as a kicker on the Nina. Lake? Pond? Nope, let’s go to the Bay, with a Florida summer thunderstorm coming. Before we could make 1 cast, we ran aground. Pulled the boat a mile to get back in the channel. Waves starting crashing over the side, motor wouldn’t fire. So we got out and swam towing the boat to a man made rock pile and waited out the storm. Finally got the engine going ran aground again and ended up finding an abandoned house to tie the boat to as we walked 3 miles back to the boat ramp. There was a gas station along the way. Beers were consumed during walk back. Dumb!
  3. Tends to happen more with real light braid. As stated, don’t attempt to cast so hard. Catching a bunch of fish or getting hung up on something tends to ‘season’ the line as well. Seems to sit on the spool better and come of the spool better.
  4. Growing up, only rich kids or adults had casting gear. Plus being surrounded on 3 sides by saltwater, that’s what we used. As long as my boat is 15-20 pounds heavier between take off and weigh in, I’m good.
  5. On mine if the trailer isn’t aligned nearly perfectly with the ball, it doesn’t like to go on or come off. Either square it by moving the truck some or the old size 12 comes into action. good luck
  6. ‘Why do you need 9 rods?’ “why do you need 93 pairs of shoes..and candles that you don’t burn?” Ill be, be at the ramp..
  7. Horizontally in a pan they tend to fry more evenly. Vertically is just showing off.
  8. If your going to fish heavier cover (which would be a wise choice) your going to need more weight. I fished central Florida last weekend and 1/2oz was barely enough to get thru. Wasn’t punching but heavy pads. There are a million retention ponds in that area. Strip malls, by the interstates etc. You can always catch them there. If you get asked about the no fishing sign, tell’em you can’t read, or respond in Spanish. It works
  9. You don’t catch a bass on every cast?? That’s the misconception down here. Some of those lakes you mentioned receive TONS of pressure. Every single day, but they’re getting caught. Do this: bring a spinnerbait pack of junebug pack of red Shad pack of any green worms lock every other bait up in your truck. hit every corner of every piece of vegetation you can get to. you will catch them.
  10. Time of year Weather Water temp Depth Wind Activity (not just bait fish, ANY signs of life. Birds, gators, raccoons anything) These play a huge factor and listen to them. Dont chase one fish. For that matter, don’t chase anything less then a bunch off shore. If you want to fish ‘offshore’ (doesn’t always mean way in the middle) then commit to it. Don’t tie up shallow baits because you’ll move to the bank and end up throwing them. Having a graph DOES NOT make you a better fisherman. Knowing how to use it, does. Now put some time in and fish.
  11. We may be crazy but you’ll retire here...with a Lincoln town car, eat at Denny’s for the early bird, play from the front tees and get ripped on scotch.
  12. Spinnerbait . If that ain’t getting bit, spinnerbait. Then after you move spots, spinnerbait. While your buddy is loading the boat at the ramp, spinnerbait.
  13. What kind of weight are you throwing 75 yards? That’s a poke
  14. Always an option down here. Especially the popping type. Remember we see frog, they see food. Low light or Overcast, some ripple on the water with wind is best. When you hear them hitting something on top, match that same sound and speed. clearer the water, litgher the frog color and faster the action. Darker water, darker color and slower. Good luck
  15. I don’t know how you guys do it. Coldest day of the year down here was 33. And...we still went fishing. I love my wife and offspring to death...however, you’ve seen The Shining
  16. Pockets of your cargo shorts. Anything more than that your wishful thinking..
  17. First off, your post is gold. Sheer gold. My suggestion: Cane pole. Night crawler. Straw hat. Bucket to set on and double as a cooler for beer and catches. And go...
  18. Got one to many ‘p’s’ in there...or do you ?
  19. Ha, funny this came up. Carry it all the time. Stuck a 7 this week, went to grab the net, it was stuck on another rod, fish broke me off at the boat. Make sure it’s ready at all times! learned my lesson, naturally, the hard way.
  20. I say yes. 16ft Lowe with a 25 as well and I run a Garmin 7cv. Got it $250 with everything new as it was the display model. Anyway, it was worth it. More than just ‘finding fish’, it gives me a much better complete feel. As far as depth and water temp is concerned. If you fish mostly shallow, it’s not as big a deal as if you fish offshore but it will open your eyes to either how much of nothing is down there or how much of a lot. Whatever you purchase more is better than less IMO here. No one ever said I wish I didn’t have so much detail or info. Get lake map or the chip! I didn’t. I should’ve. some other things to consider: bow mount? Transom mount? Additional battery. Running the wires. If you get another one will it be able to talk to the one you already have?Harness to mount it on etc.. hope this helps
  21. I need to work on this too. They said practice helps, but it’s never on sale at the store...
  22. I like Mike. I think it’s mostly genuine, now mostly habit and expected behavior and he knows it and why not capitalize on it. You don’t think your favorite music artist are that deep and poetic All the time right? They know when to turn it on. Works for Mike
  23. Turn it off. Blow on it. Turn it back on.
  24. Live bait...I just can’t do it in freshwater anymore
