  2. Kistler Magnesium web custom, waiting for a call saying they either can’t make it as requested or it’ll cost more or both. Now itching for a Kuying Teton.....
  3. Dam You!!! You all suck. I just ordered a custom magnesium. I was about to do the helium, but then I saw you could do a magnesium for less. The He was $296, the magnesium was $256. My cheapness kicked in. I bet I get a call about my requests for 7’ 4” length on the ML and a 3.5” foregrip. If they could do it that would be great.
  4. I don’t know. May need one. I need something like the 7’ ML for 1/16- 3/8 oz. casting rod. But I hate buying rods blind.
  5. Spinning reels. ?‍♂️ Get a baitcaster.
  6. The price of rods and reels doesn’t always have much to do with which is better. A lot of the time, it’s just marketing specs.
  7. If I ever get a boat, it’ll be something like this.
  8. Spinnerbaits.
  9. I’ve taken a liking to Hercules Braid, available on eBay. But I use all braids, suffix, powerpro, Berkeley, spider, fire. The main thing for me is does the color match. I have never had a line failure issue with any line.
  10. All I know is it is disappointing that science knows so little about such well known fish. There are more fishermen who know more about fish than scientists.
  11. Yeah. My wife throws **** out if it takes up too much space.
  12. Just wondering why you don’t want the T? I, personally, prefer a synchronized levelwind.
  13. Mine overwinter in the garage. No problems, but I always wonder.
  14. I know from seeing your posts, that you appreciate these nuances more than most people. I like them, too. And I always refer to the specs, like weight, spool size, handle size. But when I crack open a reel and see nearly the exact same reel, with a slightly different spool or spoolshaft and pinion or a bearing in place of a bushing or a bigger brake rotor—I curse the manufacturer for the big upcharge. I find that better bearings create the feel of “tighter tolerances.” I also believe that the big money is put into the engineering of the most popular reels that will see the most sales and this trickles up to the high end, where it is rebuilt on fancier or lighter materials. In the end, I am too cheap to be pleased by having to spend another $100 per nuance, when I can make an even lighter, better performing reel with aftermarket parts for the same price or less.
  15. I don’t know. According to the comparison tests on YouTube, that’s The main difference. And from seeing all different reels, most are on similar platforms, with hardly any difference between one price class to the next. The differences are largely on paper.
  16. It makes a dramatic difference in what the reel feels like. It feels refined like a much more expensive reel. Expensive reels are mainly charging $250 for $80 worth of Abec 7 bearings, with minor spool and brake variations to justify the up charge (and if we’re lucky lighter weight or more durable plastic).
  17. I don’t know. I often fish colored braid with short leaders. In clear water I’ve seen them watch the line go by and never bite. Other days they’ll happily get right behind the bait, wagging their tails and following it before they bite.
  18. Put two SmoothDrag ABEC 5 bearings on the worm and one ceramic BOCA Abec 5 on the gearshaft on top of the anti reverse bearing and for $25, this is probably one of the best reels ever produced. I think? I never even casted it yet.
  19. I have a love hate relationship with grease. I try not to use it, where possible, in low profile baitcasters. I do a tiny dot of ReelX on the main gear. I was looking at this reel, but decided on the Aldebaran, because in that price range, it better be light! Now I’m stuck with the problem of needing a light rod for small baits to put it on.
  20. I just don’t believe these types of claims. I could be wrong, since I don’t have this reel, but with the internet and grey market items, there have to be lots of bootlegs and refurbs out there. I don’t believe a top of the line reel from a top brand would have that problem. The manufacturer would change the problem part. I’ve never personally seen any problem like this with any product (especially rods which are easier to break). I’m sure it could happen, but even my fake $18 Chinese plastic reels don’t have these types of problems. If anything, these reports are all the reason it’s best to stick to legitimate sellers. Meanwhile, my Abus all have a Geary sound and feel fresh out of the box and they’re brass!! The only thing i could see causing sound, especially on micro gear teeth, is grease. Grease causes noise and grip on small teeth, which is why I don’t grease these parts on small reels that only see freshwater. Even plastic teeth will get Geary once greased. The sound of grease on a small plastic worm gear absolutely ticks me off every turn of the handle. Edit: hey I didn’t say “ticks” me off!
  21. Interesting. Is it in the same package as the 2018? I know. I love Carbontex, but this is one reel that didn’t need it.
  22. And then I come across this while searching for Shimano reels: http://www.daiwa.com/scandinavia/contents/reels/pro_tw100sv/index.html looks like a SV 2018 Tatula, by looking at the drag star and mag dial, but older style handles, not sure though...
