  1. No way! You don’t want to know how long it took to put them on. I don’t have time for that kind of project at the moment.
  2. Whelp, here’s pics of the Tatula spool weight. 25.18 grams spooled with 20lb braid. An aftermarket BFS spool is only 11.44 grams spooled with 20lb braid. So it does throw finesse into question. The wired thing is, with the BFS spool in the reel, it is harder to start and stops too fast. Like it might not actually work, unless I back off the zero adjust. Even more weird— the zero adjust is easy to turn with the aftermarket spool. It’s even easier to turn than a standard knob with the BFS spool in the reel. ???
  3. I bet that the “studies” that find more than minimal mortality from fishing related injuries are biased studies funded by anti fishing wildlife preservation interests.
  4. I’ve never seen the water littered with dead fish that died after being caught (over about 40 years of fishing). Most fish that are targeted by fisherman have no problem after being caught.
  5. Extremely unlikely. Otherwise, there’d be dead fish all over the place after every tournament.
  6. I used brake cleaner, then used a compressed gas keyboard cleaner (the one that blows air that is really refrigerant in a red straw tube) to blow out the oil or grease. Then I soaked them in acetone, dried them and soaked them in Ethyl Alcohol, dried them again, then added a drop of oil. They are very, very fast. Faster than any other reel bearings that came with any reel I have, except for Avet reels.
  7. I have the new Tatula but I haven’t casted it yet. After flushing the bearings, I can say this reel has some of the fastest and high quality stock bearings of any reel. It will be as close to finesse casting as any reel for the US Market once flushed. These are almost Abec ceramic fast. Unflushed, the bearings are “stoppy” and somehow slow themselves down automatically.
  8. I’m just going to say where I fish there aren’t a wide enough variety of conditions to do so many different things. And don’t judge the quality of your gear by the look I got the most expensive one posts on the internet. I have still caught most of my fish in my lifetime on pretty mid market priced gear. Trust me, I stopped buying $100+ jeans years ago because the $25 jeans fit me better.
  9. Got 2 in the mail today. Besides being tiny, they taste a bit salty.
  10. Two out of three dark sleepers from Tackle Direct. The white one is backordered. The 2 bootlegs from China have been traveling around the world for weeks. It’ll be months before I get a line into water ???
  11. I have never eaten, kept or killed a LMB or SMB.
  12. I never grab the line. I can’t even count how many times I’ve seen people snap the line this way. Either use the rod or if it’s too big and it’ll break the rod or shake itself off, use a net or gaff. For bass, they are easy to grab by the mouth. IMO more PB’s are lost to line grabbing than anything else.
  13. Maybe. I am a big fan of his tests and reviews overall. The thing that gets me is the way he does his tests. He first chooses a terrible rod for a casting test. Then he uses an anemic casting style. AND THEN he sets the reels to equalize their performance!!! IMO, if he chose better rods to cast what he was throwing, used better casting technique and set each reel to its max, every reel he tests will get 50-100% better distance. Otherwise, I love his reviews, they are are as good as it gets.
  14. The 2019 Scorpion MGL is being released now or very soon. We could probably expect a DC version to follow......
  15. 8-17lb stren purple. Or 10-15lb seguar fluorocarbon. On a leader tied to 6-20lb braid. I only fish braid main line for all fishing.
  16. I just don’t believe it. Go somewhere with bass and clear water. Take a whole fresh feisty night crawler and throw it in the water. Bass love to eat this. You’ll see them. I know bass love whole worms. And I know worms are not smart. When I had a kiddie pool in my yard, with a slide and steps, dozens of worms would kill themselves every night climbing into the pool. They have to do the same thing around every lake, too. So I have to believe it’s really just that bass love to eat worms. And worms love to jump into the water overnight.
  17. I’m surprised by these prices. Seems like a lot of reels were more just a few months ago.
  18. Just so happen to have family traveling to Japan when these will hit the stores, cannot possibly pass it up if they are going to be available for ¥17,000-18,000 ($153.00-162.00), like I’ve heard.
  19. Like many just said, it’s easier to slow it down than to speed it up. But a 4” per crank difference is so unnoticeable I don’t even know if it counts as a difference.
  20. Yeah, well the last nice day around here, my wife said let’s go for a walk for exercise. Of course, this is a walk by water that I could be testing new gear in. But nope. We just walked and I got in trouble for wasting time looking for any signs of life in the water (I did see two turtles swimming around). But all I was allowed to do was walk.
  21. Ordered 3 real ones from Tackle Direct and 2 bootlegs off of Ali Express. Will be fishing them this season. You could get 4 bootlegs from China for the price of about 1 genuine Dark Sleeper and I bet they still work.....
  22. I don’t know. BPS makes great sub $100 cranking rods. I have two. But I can also say that sometimes, a stiffer, higher sensitivity, more expensive Rod imparts a tighter side to side wobble in the crankbait that the soft rods I prefer just can’t. Sometimes that’s all that will catch the fish.
  23. Smith and Wesson makes great pocket knives in the $20-30 range. I’m currently using one of these, after breaking the blade of the fishing knife I bought 27 years earlier trying to remove a kitchen backsplash.
