Applications that require sensitive rods.
I like to fish topwater stuff with my old whimpy glass Ugly stick rod. it's a lot harder to pull it away from them with a glass rod.

hyperdermic needle and soft plastics?
It works with real worms so it might work with non salt plastic baits to get them to float up better off the bottom if carolina rigged

First baitcaster
I have a citica and love it, but it is hopped up a bit with the Abec bearings . For the money though I think the Revo S in about the best deal going. That will be my next baitcaster. if you are used to a spinning reel you cast with your right hand and reel with your left, get a left hand baitcasting reel!!!!! Load it with line, Then walk the lure out a little farther then you think you can cast. Go back to the reel and put a piece of sticky tape across the line on the spool then reel your line back in over the tape. put on a weight with no hooks that is at least a 1/2 oz. Set you spool up so it just creeps down when your in freespool. Thats how to set one up, then start praticing. Put a bucket in your yard and cast at it. Then when you can put the lure where you want it, try pitching to it. If you practice in your yard and get some confidence in it first before you hit the lake you will have a much better experiance the first time out.

Help Rod + Reel $150
I would go with the Garcia Revo baitcaster. That is one of the best reels on the market for the money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do not buy a cheap baitcaster as they will make you hate baitcasting reels. But that Revo for $130 is a sweet deal, that way you still have your spinning rod for casting the lite stuff. I use my baitcaster for all my larger plugs , sninnerbaits, buzzbaits, and pitching jigs and stuff and I use my spinning outfit for all my soft plastics and smaller plugs.

Small Pond Fishing
My favorite has to be heavy salt sinking stick baits fished weightless. Either tex-posed or wacky riged. I fish a lot of small shallow ponds and get a lot of huge fish out of them. So throw some weightless soft plastics and you'll boat fish.
