  1. Ok so I have encountered an issue that I have never had a problem with before. At least not as bad as I did yesterday. I was fishing senkos for only the second time ever. This was the first outing Ive had where the fish were really hitting them. I had four separate chances when I had a fish on, set the hook, and began to reel the fish in just to see the fish come off half way in. I made sure to set the hook hard when I had the fish on but every time they came off. I am fishing off set hooks and I have never had an issue with them and I am rigging the texas-rigged so what could I be doing wrong?
  2. I always leave the slime of the fish on the handle of my pole. Super strange...I know.
  3. Its hard times trying to find a thread to post topics related to small pond fishing. Figured there needed to be a set place to post ideas and tips. The small pond that I fish near my home in NC is murky water with a soft bottom. So far I have only pulled two bass out this year. I have tried just about everything mainly spinners and jigs. The pond has a defined shallow end and deep end and the bass are always tough to locate. What are some good tips on locating the bass during certain times of the day, temperatures, etc. and what might be some popular lures and techniques to use for small pond fishing?
  4. 6.4 lbs on a black and blue jig with a worm trailer mid summer.
  5. Landed a 3lber on Saturday fishing a white and blue spinner. Think Ill stick with it. Ive been using mostly black and blue jigs as well so far. Had the most hits on the spinner though!
  6. Yeah, caught my first good sized fish this weekend. Just what I needed to get me in the mood for spawn season. 2.5 lber on a slow spinner. Felt good to finally reel something in! ;D
  7. Caught her in a small pond with a black and blue jig and a grub trailer. She was 6.4 lbs and put up a nice fight. Boy do I miss her!
  8. I saw in an article that it is good in a pond fishing scheme to throw in some sort of object that the fish can make into a habitat. A. Does this work well? B. How long before the fish actually begin to habitat there? C. Will it work all year long?
  9. well put When I'm in my slumps I do start using lures and techniques that I am not confident with and it only makes the slump worse. You are definitely right that you should go back to what you are comfortable wiht.
  10. Just started fishing seriouly in the last year.... Caught a 6.5lb on a black jig with a plastic worm trailer then caught a 4lb 14oz the very next day on the exact same lure. I was proud of myself until I saw the fish you X-Men have been catching. :-/
  11. Ill never forget when I was much younger I hooked a big bass at my parents pond on a crankbait, and couldnt get it unhooked. It was deep down in its throat. So I tried to run around and get some help and was worried that the fish was gonna die so I put it back in the water (still hooked) so it could breathe for a while and it took off and snapped the line. About a week later I saw my crankbait floating on the surface so I fished it in and two of the hooks on the treble were snapped off and rusted. One of the best fishing memories I have from my childhood.
  12. By no means am I an old timer, but I never fished artificial bait with my dad or grandfather for that matter. I didnt start fishing artificial until I caught the fishing bug in the last 3 or 4 years (Im 23 now). We always took "fishing trips" to the ponds around where we used to live and do the old cane pole with a minnow technique. Everything Ive learned over the last few years Ive had to learn on my own, that is without the help of my dad and grandfather.
  13. Trying to learn a little more about using these. I've been trying to find out all the uses of them before I go out and spend a lot of money on one. So if you know lots about these hook me up with some information please.
