The first batch
Hey Burley i finally got this mold to give me full jigs. Like Harshman and Munkin had said holding the mold over a candle really helps. But i wasnt sure how often to do that. It came down to i had to smoke the cavities i was gonna pour lead into over a candle each time before i loaded hooks into them. Then i got full jigs. If i didnt do this then i didnt get full jigs. So i would smoke the cavity put a hook into it pour the lead in then pop out the jig and smoke the cavity again then put another hook in and pour again. Has anybody else found this? I tried smoking it and pouring a few times but always the first jig would be complete and the rest would be missing the barb.

Manns Baby 1-
I like to use it mid summer. I like the blue gil pattern yellow on the bottom with blue on the top. The only thing is I never really caught any good sized fish on it. I catch lots of 12 inch bass, but never anything with any shoulders. And always be sure to check the strength of your knot after you catch one on it lol. I was catching alot of fish one night on one and went to cast it and set the hook on a fish and the knot let go. > it was my fault for not checking but i had to go buy another one the next day.

Jig makers in Illinois
Hey guys i live in Illinois and was wondering if any of you that are from illinois know of someplace that sells the stuff needed to make skirts. I order the pieces of silicon from Barlow's tackle shop online, but was just wondering if there was someplace closer that i could go to get what i need? Im located in central illinois about an hour and a half south of Chicago. But i also go to school down in Bloomington,IL if anybody knows any shops around that area. thanks

Gman i gotta ? for ya
thanks for the replys guys. I ended up finally finding some articles about it as well, but it was after i made my first jig. It looks like alot of guys use them as a 5/16 head because of it being a finess style bait. The one i made is on a 3/8 head so its a little bigger but maybe that will be good to experiment with. Cant wait for some good weather to finally get here so i can try it out.

Hey GMAN ive been looking at the jig in your avatar for awile and was wondering about that skirt. What difference does the jig skirt make with the small strands up by the head? Ive started to see them lots of places too and actually just made one but i havent heard anyplace about what it does different then a jig with the skirt tied in a normal way. Could you tell me anything about these skirts on the jigs?

Other ways to protect the paint?
Harshman just pointed out every mistake i made lol. ;D Ok now i know what i did wrong with not using a drying wheel. I did use that devcon 2 ton epoxy but i have a hook rack hanging over my work bench and i hung them off of there. What do you guys typically do to built a drying wheel? or can you get something like that from netcraft?

Other ways to protect the paint?
I think on a few of them i didnt mix the epoxy right and they are still sticky. And most of the rest i must have mixed the epoxy right cause they did eventually dry but look horrible. i wont coat them anymore with epoxy lol. The paint im using is the paint that you would use for painting model cars the Testors paint. Im not sure yet how it will do in the water. But with a college students budget it works good for getting them a specific color.

Other ways to protect the paint?
Hi guys I just started pouring jigs 3 weeks ago and am working on completing my first batch of flipping jigs. I painted them and always heard putting a coat of epoxy over the top would help protect the paint. Well I did that and am having a problem getting them to dry. They have felt sticky for about 3 days now and they made the jigs look horrible.. anyway I was wondering if there was any other method that you all use to protect the paint on your jigs?

Spinner Bait Skirts
harshman what do you usually do for jigs? Do you cut the skirt right up to the hook?

The first batch
Hey man i just got that mold myself and was having the exact same problem. A guy told me to not put any hooks in and pour the lead into the mold then open it up throw the lead back in the pot and pour again with no hooks. Keep doing this until the mold warms up and the metal will expand a little bit and it should give you a complete jig. Im saying this off theory because i havent had any good weather to try it since i first poured about 3 weeks ago. Im hopefully gonna give it a try this weekend. It wont hurt anything to try because your not wasting hooks and lead can always be melted again. Ill have to post some pics of my first batch of flipping jigs that ive done. good luck

Working with lead
where do you typically get those masks. Right now i do pour outside obviously. Usually infront of the garage door with a fan in the garage blowing out. I just started pouring and like everybody warned me it is becoming addictive so i just dont wanna end up like the stories you hear about guys finding out they got lead in there lungs after being around melting lead and fumes and stuff.

Working with lead
Hey guys i was wondering what you guys use to keep yourself from inhaling the fumes from the lead when your pouring? Would a drywall mask work? or do i need to get something better?

New work bench is finished...
Nice work bench. I just built one myself just not as big. Though i put mine out in the unheated, and un insulated garage next to my boat so i could work on stuff for my boat in the same place. So with this weather its not getting used yet lol.... great work

Going to start pouring
what kind of bits do you use with the dremel to make modifications?

Going to start pouring
I just got that 1/8th ounce ball jig mold and i think a 1/0 looks small in it and a 2/0 will probably work. if it doesnt you can always tweak the mold to make it work.

lure painters
Hi guys, I just poured my first flipping jigs last weekend. I am figuring out what to paint and i know that half will be black and blue, and the other half will be green pumpkin, my two confidence colors. Anyway, I am partially color blind and cannot figure out how green pumpkin is mixed. It doesnt look like straight green, but what could i mix into the green to get the color that you usually see on the store shelves? Im using enamel paints instead of the powder paints or the kind that are found in netcraft. Any help on what to mix would be great! thanks.
