  1. Thank you Sam. Guess I missed that part lol.
  2. Man oh man today was strange. Father in law smoked me for about 5 hours and 45 minutes of the day. The last 15 minutes of the day I looked down into my bag at a bait I’ve been wanting to tie on just to see how it looked in the water. It’s a bait I really only purchased for a local private camp with “giant bass” and Toledo Bend. I reached down and grabbed the Savage Gear 5 inch swim bait in baby bass color and tied it on. Second cast got a little 14 incher and let him go. Next cast I felt a subtle thump, then thought my line was running with the current but no....I set the hook and immediately I knew I had a big fish. Father in law about fell out the boat trying to get the net to get this thing in the boat. Beat my personal best by over 2lbs today. Borrowed a scale back at the ramp and weighed in at 4.01lbs and 19 inches long.
  3. Man that’s awesome thank you!
  4. Been doing my research and I can’t seem to find a club where I’m located. I don’t mind a drive at all but I’d like to stay as close to SWLA/Orange Texas area as I can. If anyone can point me in the right direction I’d greatly appreciate it. I don’t have a boat and have zero problems being back-boated. I’m just looking to fish more lol. The banks I hit are getting kinda old.

A weightless fluke is a crap ton of fun. Took me I don’t know how many times to get to where I could get a consistent bite on it. Three or four trips later I got to where I can cast it and fairly guickly get the cadence right that they like.
  6. Be careful at burnout with the water being so high. Last time we went, they had really let the launch get out of control. Serious potholes and just overall decay.
  7. Fished with my father in law on the sabine from safe light until 11:30-12 this past Sunday. We launched in Orange and went to Phoenix lake which I had never fished. The water looked really good but was a solid 3 feet higher than when we went 3-4 weeks ago. I’ve never had this happen before but man was it fun. I love my Keitech swimbaits. Got them in a few different colors (bluegill flash, sexy Shad, and ayu) and decided to start the day with bluegill flash mostly for well.....the flash. The bass loved it. Was throwing them on an owner 4/0 weighted screw lock hook and just giving a slow steady retrieve with the occasional jerk. I caught multiples on all three colors with my biggest on the sexy Shad. Throwing parallel to any floating grass patches and when I could, parallel to the bank. Same went for any debris floating along. Another first for me, beat my father in law 16-4 and I landed all 4 keepers.
  8. United States Marine Corps 2001-2005 Operstion Iraqi Freedom crossed the line of departure on 20 March 2001 into Iraq with 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion out of Camp Pendleton, California.
  9. Former Marine here (Amtracker...not the trains), I joined the Marines and graduated boot camp 9/7/2001. Boot camp at MCRD San Diego was the best and worst time of my life. You’ll accomplish more than you ever imagined possible as long as you push yourself into that uncomfortable area and fight your way out of it. The fleet Marine Corps is what you make of it. Choose a job you could see yourself enjoying post Corps life. I’m in law enforcement now and the biggest things I took from the Corps was honor, courage, and commitment. Doesn’t matter how cheesy it sounds or how much crap I get for saying I try to live by those words, I’m not changing it for anything/anyone. Hit me up if you have any questions about the Corps boss.
  10. Thanks again everyone. Find myself reading on here every night before going to sleep or until I get yelled at by the wife lol.
  11. Thanks fellas. I appreciate it.
  12. @Sam from Sulphur high back in ‘01 and almost immediately left for the Marines. Never really got into saltwater fishing. Whenever I hit the Sabine with my father in law we will get into reds every now and then but I don’t really go looking for them. I’m a baseball fan and more specifically I’m a Red Sox fan. Football season may have started but it’s still baseball season to me lol. I’ll never tell anyone anything about Toledo lol. Only thing I’ve ever caught there worth bragging about was an Abu garcua ambassadeur reel on an all star rod as a kid.
  13. @Catt the rain has stopped so not too bad. Whereabouts in SWLA?

  15. First off.....holy smokes there’s a lot of awesome info on this site. Name is Brandon. Been fishing most of my life (mostly bass). Got away from it when I left for the Marines and college and recently fallen back in love with it. Always up to fish with anyone. I mostly hit the banks until I get the time to fish with my father in law.
