Spinning rod help
total budget of $150 rod and reel? and if it is i would take a step down in the reel to allow more money for the rod, get a symetre for 79.99 instead of the stradic for 109.99 i beleive depending on what size. This allows you $70 for a rod instead of $40 and in my opinion the rod means alot more than the reel in fishing considering the rod is how you feel the fish and the bottom and a greater sensitivity in the rod could be the difference between feeling a subtle bite and missing a fish especially for finesse fishing. For me i would go with a 6'6" or 7' M probably a Falcon Original, Castaway, St. Croix, or the Shiamano Clarus series feel all of them pick the one that feels the most comfortable for you.

UPS and Fishing Rods (A Nasty Combo)
Oh man i know your UPS woes, I ordered in a older model 7ft MH shimano compre from another store at work because they were on clearance for like $50 it was shipped in PVC, and the PVC was bent a little. I opened up the container and the blank was busted completely in half right above the cork. Not blaming UPS but i understood accidents happen i just wished the store that sent it woulda packed it in a cardboard tube, dont know why but seems like less break packed that way considering thats how most major rod companys ship their rods.

what action and lenth should i buy for a openface
I agree with eyedabassman with the 6'6" med heavy and to add to feeling the rod in your hand at the store have them but a reel on it also so you can get a better feel of how the rod will balance and feel while fishing, i see no problem going up to 7' but for me i like the little bit shorter 6'6" for more casting control and just i think the length is just right when using a spinning reel. Try them both see how they feel to you because rod selection is mainly personal preference and what is your price range that would help to find the right rod your looking for.

6'0" vs 6'6" vs 7'0" Rods
I would go with either the 6'6" of the 7' M to MH they are going to be your best general purpose rods in my opinion, I personally throw mostly 7 ft rods for my bait casters but use a 6'6" MH for my spinning outfit for senkos and a 6' M for skipping, and a 6'4" rod for spinnerbaits. When you go to the store ask the associate to let u try the reel on the rod and pick the one that feels best for you, personally i would get one with a little backbone and a fast tip that feels comfortable, and 7' rods honestly arent that bad to throw they arent that long and with a little practice you can control the rod well. Take a look at the Falcon Lowrider series I beleive they are in your price range and have a very good feel, that or a Castaway which use G-Loomis blanks.

Shimano Saraha or Pflueger President Spinning Reel
actually since we have received the new ones with the new braking system i haven't seen any come back so i'm assuming that they're better now and i cant remember whether it was the reels with the plastic or metal frames so that too could have been a factor i'll post if i see any more returned or any reels in that matter that we get many defectives of

Shimano Saraha or Pflueger President Spinning Reel
my .02 to that is that chrysler is also up for sale by mercedes benz no relevance to fishing sorry and i never said a penn was like a pfluegar but there are many similarities between the pfuegar and the shakespeare just as quantnum is a division of zebco and so on and so forth and the fact of the matter is G loomis is owned by shimano so long story short i was stating a fact that was blown out of proportion that shakespeare made pflueger

Shimano Saraha or Pflueger President Spinning Reel
Honestly it might have been a bad batch or something or maybe people just don't know how to use a baitcaster that are buying them but i have seen alot of trions returned, this is also true with the lower $50-60 plueger reels. I threw my cousins once and this was the second time out after he had bought it and i noticed that when you would reel the reel quickly then stop the reel would make a loud clicking sound and the spool would keep moving some i have seen this happen in several trions returned which seemed to me to make it a comon problem now he's throwing the quantum Accurist AC500 CX and hasn't had any problems with it, their spinning reels however are great i have never really seen any problems with them our guide series reels which are made by shakespeare, the only problem with the guide series is sometimes you will get one with bad components mainly in the anti reverse but a reel for 30 dollars with 10 bearings is hard to beat, not critisizing just making a statement on what ive observed

flipping / pitching reel
One thing that i've noticed at least from watching KVD is that when casting he uses a right handed reel but for flipping or pitching he uses left handed to engage the reel more easily if there is a strike

Shimano Saraha or Pflueger President Spinning Reel
The fact i work at gander mtn was just in order for me to establish the fact that i have seen more defective pflueger reels come back defective than the other brands, i have seen trion after trion come back with stripped gears, the fact that i work at gander mtn doesnt make me an expert but when you see the same brand of reel come back broken time after time you start to question the quality of the reel, sorry my observation offended some people and the comment of K2 corp and the statement of triton being owned by brunswick is completely illogical considering shakespeare and pfluegar both make fishing tackle so logically i would think they shared technology and due to similarities seen in some of the reels that they were produced by the same company, but i agree with you i doubt that bowling balls and boats are made in the same factory but there is a little thing called logic that plays to that aspect. And with working at Gander Mountain and selling reels daily kind of implies that i would know something about them well atleast a little more than the typical angler, but then again i could be so ignorant as to not know the difference between Shimano and Pflueger.

Shimano Saraha or Pflueger President Spinning Reel
I'd stay away from pflueger i work at gander mtn and have seen alot of them come back defective in fact i had someone return a baitcaster last night because it was knocking really bad he had just bought it the week before. they're a smooth reel but they're not well made for the price you cant beat how smooth they are but theyre components are lacking theyre made by shakespeare.

Manns crankbaits
the main reason i started this post was that i bought several of the 4- baits to modify and i cut down the bills to match the 1- and repainted them, and i just wanted to make sure i didnt screw up a perfectly good bait to make something similar to the 1-

looking for discontinued color
yeah thats probably it its about the time it was made i beleive it was discontinued in the late 80's or early 90's and it is in their 7.5 inch worm

Dicks sporting goods
I work at Gander Mountain in fredericksburg Va in fishing and its appaling going to other stores, i'm only 20 years old but still know what i'm doing on the water but often times i get discriminated against because of my age. Especially at bass pro for instance i will be looking at the shimano curados and chronarchs and other high end reels and the sales people dont even seem to notice me, and when they do its almost as if they dont respect me, and At dicks i dont even wanna go there i look for clearance stuff and thats it got a few bags of senkos there last month for like $3.50 a bag but dont even try to ask them anything, i was looking for 3/0 gamakatsu EWG hooks and he takes me to the hook isle and started trying to show me #3 octopus hooks, I dont know about anyone else but i have issues with walmart too, i walked up to the counter and asked an associate for help and not trying to be critical or condiscending but there was someone with a learning disability working fishing, bless his heart he tried to help me find gary yamamoto baits but started looking through crank baits and spinnerbaits for them, the worse part was he was supposed to be selling firearms and ammunition, is it just me or is costomer service and educated employees a thing of the past. I hope that noone thinks that of me or my store but i try my best to help where i can.

Do the pro's use their signature series equipment?
one thing i know for certain is that KVD doesn't use his signature series all his signature reels are quantum Accurist AC500CX with his name on it and a special paint scheme, He himself uses the Quantum Tour Edition PT which many many of the anglers use which was evident in the Classic coverage, Mainly because of their sponsership deals with Zebco.

Manns crankbaits
I have had alot of luck on the manns baby 1- but what about the rest of the minus series like the 4- or 8- any luck on them?
-
Manns minus series
I'm not sure but for me i change out the hooks with gamakatsu trebels in the same size i beleive it is a #4 on the front and a #6 on the back they have a little bit longer shank on them also and are alot better quality hook, i've foudn this helps greatly Hope this helps

best line?
i have never found a mono better than Izorline platinum its not too expensive comes in 1/4lb spools but you have to order it to get because very few places carry it. Each lb test breaks a couple lbs more than its rated and is smooth handeling tough without much memory
-
best line?
What does everybody think is the best mono on the market or rather your favorite to use?
