Well, I buy them in large part because they're inexpensive and I like the looks of them, but I have been having great luck lately on smallmouth with the Flicker Shad. My only complaint is that the hooks are so sharp practically every fish ends up somehow embedding every single hook in one part of their body or another.
  2. I think for me it's the cast. Hooking the line with your finger, it just seems to unbalance it.
  3. I have never liked spinning tackle. I use it, but I'm just not comfortable with it, and never have been. I find spinning reels to be very awkward. I'm actually thinking of getting a higher end spincast outfit to throw my light stuff.
  4. I think it would be cool, or perhaps just give them all flashers.
  5. Boot tail, down. Curly tail, up. I think the former is kind of standard, and the latter is just my preference.
  6. Wow! That much? That's disappointing
  7. A little more research suggests that I can put in a Mercury hub in the prop, but I have to get a prop-shop to press out the existing hub.
  8. I bought a Michigan Wheel propeller off ebay for my bassboat. Had the right diameter and pitch, but it doesn't fit on the shaft of my Mercury 115hp. It doesn't look like the hub comes out. Am I just looking at it wrong, or do some of them come with the hub permanently in the prop?
  9. Does anyone know who holds the record for the most tournament Big Bass awards? (B.A.S.S.).
  10. The first fish we would target after ice out was silver redhorse (although we always called them redfin mullet). We would go out at dusk with kerosene lanterns. I remember you had to let them really take it. (worms) You couldn't set the hook too early. We'd get some eels occasionally too.
  11. Close. I typically use a 1/4 oz jig head and a curly tail grub, but this setup has been my favorite lure pretty much my whole fishing life. I always have one tied on, and have to force myself to use something else.
  12. My family was a camping / hunting / fishing family, so I grew up fishing. I don't really have a memory of beginning fishing. Having said that, I took to it with far more zeal than my father or really anyone I knew. I don't know if I joined BASS because I was getting crazy about fishing, or vice versa.
  13. I pronounce bream as "bluegill"
  14. Boom, that's it! Thanks.
  15. I found a picture of them on EBay, but it doesn't show the name. It's going to keep bugging me.
  16. I always loved the look and action of the Timber Spin. Can't recall if I ever caught much with them.
  17. Yes. Not sure why I had Heddon in my head. I can't think of the name, but I used to have pretty good luck with a Mister Twister creature bait. Looked like a regular plastic worm, with a bunch of tiny twister tails along the sides. I started using them after Al Lindner won a B.A.S.S. tournament with them in '77. Anyone remember the name?
  18. What are the lures you can no longer buy that you would love to make a comeback? I used to love throwing the Heddon Mud Bug, but honestly I don't think I actually caught that many fish on them.
  19. I'm kind of in this category, but I know it's all in my head. They (fat squarebills) just don't look good to me, so I don't throw them. I kind of like the looks of rattletrap type baits, but I haven't had huge success with them.
  20. I have to echo this one. Love the look of it, don't think I ever caught a fish on it. I grew up with the mindset that spoons were for pike, not bass. Dardevle was the king in those days.
  21. Well, what I mean is a lure that you thought looked killer and didn't turn out to work for you.
  22. That's amazing, because I hardly ever put them down because they have worked so well for me. To be fair, I use Meeney Spins, but it's basically the same thing.
  23. Only if you tell me what a glide bait is. I can't keep up.
  24. Do you have any of those lures that you just love the look of, and just can't catch fish with it?
