  1. I have been out the last two trips and fished mostly my 110+1 sexy shad. Been really impressed with it and have caught 4 2.5lb+ bass in 35-45 degree water. Unfortunately, I lost my lure when the line snapped back and snapped off the lure. I believe the lure had a crack in it bc I couldn't find it anywhere and I was thinking it would be floating. So here I am, about to order another 110+1. I'm somewhat new to bass fishing and am still building my inventory. I watched the jerkbait underwater video matt did, and was really impressed with the 110+1. So that was my first, serious jerkbait purchase. So now I'm looking to get a replacement, and I thought while I'm at it, I will go ahead and get a 110 as well. My question is: do I need a 110 or will a 110+1 do the job just as well? I know the 110+1 is meant to go deeper, but didn't know if was that big of a difference. I'm fine getting it...but just thought I would get everyone's thoughts before I go refinance my house so that I can afford these megabass jerkbaits lol. Thanks for your thoughts. bonus points if you share your favorite 110(+1) color. Thanks
  2. That sounds like a great Christmas! Still haven't opened everything yet...just got back from family christmas where I got a great ornament and a tackle warehouse gift card (is there a better Christmas gift?? ha) .
  3. Live in the sedgefield area Welcome!
  4. Let’s see your Christmas gifts! I have a large tackle warehouse skinny present I haven’t opened yet...can’t imagine what it could be lol. What did you get?!
  5. Merry Christmas!! Hope you all have a wonderful day!
  6. I guess I just meant, do you use the same line for all of them? (Same Brand, Color, lb strength,...) Thanks
  7. Tom, I looked back through and didn’t see where you put what you use. Would you mind sharing your philosophy oh what you use and when? TThanks
  8. Ok thank you!! That does make sense. Thank you to everyone that has contributed. Unfortunately, I don’t live close to anywhere where I can test various high end rods, so I’ll just continue to do research on a specific model and make the best educated guess. It was fun learning more about rod composition and the process.
  9. so you guys that use it for everything, that includes finesse? (eg dropshot, ned rig...) Again, just learning here...I know I have to choose for myself and have confidence...just trying to hear what everyone else is doing. I have no friends that fish really...so this forum is the only way I get to bounce ideas of great fishermen... so thank you all for the advice and time! much appreciated!
  10. I would love to find some studies where some guys go out and fish every day in same areas with same baits. Rotating every other day between straight braid and braid/leader. Do that for a week or two, and see if there's any differences. anyone want to volunteer? haha I would love to go straight braid...but as someone mentioned...confidence is key and I would always have that little doubt in the back of my head. Thank you to all who have contributed so far! Great thoughts!
  11. Have you ever fished with someone else in the boat who was using mono or fluoro? Notice any difference between the two bites? This is probably the closest we have to experiments ha
  12. I just enjoy having multiple rigs so that I don’t have to waste time changing lures while I’m out there. Plus it’s nice to have rods that make that bait I am throwing really work well. But there’s definite different strokes for different folks. Whatever allows you to enjoy being out on the water. anyone use 6’6 frog rod? what’s everyone’s thought process on a good topwater rod?
  13. Soo...you guys that are very knowledgeable about blanks. Is there something you look for in a rod (materials wise) or do you go straight to just sensitivity and weight...and you don’t care about what the makeup is? Thanks!
  14. So you only run 2 rigs total? That’s a beautiful fish! That’s interesting! Never thought about it that way but you are right...those treble hooks can be a pain. Do you use an fg knot? So you have no reason for switching? Or is it for certain rigs (deep diving...)
  15. Just curious if anyone has switched to straight braid for all appliances with no leader. I love braid and hate tying leaders and hearing the knot go through the guides. Would love to switch but feel like braid is still too visible, but I don’t have any evidence of this. Anyone try it? And noticeable difference? Thanks
  16. Tom, do you find it difficult to work a frog with such a long rod? Have you ever tried a shorter rod? Just wondering what the advantages are of a 7'5" frog rod which seems to be the most common. thanks and anyone else is welcome to chime in
  17. Does anyone like a shorter rod 6’-6’6” for frog and jerkbaits? I have been using a 7’ but I was thing it might be easier to work ithe bait if the rod was smaller. Plus it would be more accurate. What do you think? Then looks like most go for average 7’ for crank and moving baits. And then 7’6+ for flipping/pitching. That seem right? Just trying to figure out the best rational for lengths
  18. I'm not really looking for brand names or anything, just looking for what type of rod do you use for each bait. Frog crankbait (shallow, medium, deep, lipless) jerkbait buzzbait tr worm dropshot ned spinnerbait jig (football, swim, finesse) flipping/punching etc Just would love to length, stiffness, action and material (glass, graphite...). Also would love to hear about the reel and line you use with each. Bonus points if you share why you have chosen each selection. I love to hear what everyone else is doing and why...always learn something new.
  19. Thanks for your response and while it was helpful...still looking for what specifically is the main contributing factor to setting the modulus of a rod? amount of carbon fiber? also what determines strain rate? I assume multiple factors determine this (eg cf, scrim, resin...) but just trying to get a better grasp on things.
  20. YES! This is what I am looking for. Just trying to learn more...not really looking for advice on buying a particular rod. Just realized that I really have no idea what the various material options there are for rods, and why one is better than the other. It's crazy how there's such a variety of rods (eg. $50 up to $1000) but not much info on why one cost way more than another...other that the usual vague terms like sensitive and weight. Thanks again for helping me with this! Any other thoughts?
  21. Thank you for all the replies. Forget I said anything about Favorite rods . That was just an analogy. I just want specifics on rod composition and design...what's the actual difference between eg megabass destroyer line and g loomis glx..) What is it in the blanks that make up a high end rod? I know it's a pretty technical question...but I know there are plenty of guys on here that could educate us. Thanks
